For me, definitely not. APL to BSL is about three or four inches here, but shoulder to APL feels like five or six.
Depends on your body structure. And of course, stalls and trimming, let's not forget! I get a mad stall just at the top of BSL every time.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ooooh, so close now. I call it at around 0.75 of an inch.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have been APL for a while and when wet my hair just touches my bra strap yay.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It looks like I belong in here! My longest layers (ooh, the dreaded layers!) are brushing my collar bone - it's going to take a good long time to get to APL.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was planning on getting my ends "dusted" by the end of the year. Right now that does not look like a good idea to me. My ends are not splitted or anything. It would be like provisional.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
This monthly measure-in gives me hope! I seem to be consistently growing 1/2" per month. At this rate, I ought to reach APL in less than a year.
Now, if only I could be patient and resist trimming till then!

Checking in: I did not cut, i ate loads of veggies and tried daktarine -european for monistat- since 2 weeks. I am not good in measuring, but at least half of my hair is at APL now. I agreed with myself i will practice benign neglect untill the holidays. My growth rate is about 0.5-0.8 inch per month.
About the inches it takes from shoulder to armpit length: at least 5 inches for me, wherease APL to BSL would only take me 3.5". So this group is tough!
Good growing everyone!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just had a new tattoo and the bottom of it is APL the top is about shoulder and i am 3 quarters of the way down :D Its a good measuring tool. I need to upload my latest picture but i have a temp phone that is very difficult! It seems like i have been here forever now!
Though the growth isnt very obvious at the front (which is feathered/graduated) it seems to have become alot thicker there and why i blowfried my hair rhe other day, less and less seemed to flick out all over the place. I thought maybe it had something to do with going away and not having hard water?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ok, I am playing here now. I hit collarbone in front. Christmas 2011 I should be at APL with my growth and need for trims. Then xmas 2012 for BSL and xmas 2014 for waist with lots of trims to get rid of damage and henna.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just measured my hair yesterday and it was 20".
Before my big trim, it was 21.5" and almost APL. So, hopefully, that means it will be APL by January.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I decided to trim off an inch and a half a couple of weekends ago, so it will take a bit longer to reach APL. This is OK though because my ends were so crunchy that they just had to go! I trimmed my hair myself, for the first time ever, and it turned out better than I expected. Here is how it turned out......

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi everyone,
I just made it (in the back only) to 22 inches which means 1 more inch to my APL length. I do have the dreaded step-sides, significantly shorter 'cuz I'm growing out a short layered cut. As bad as it looks sometimes, I can't bring myself to cut the back to match. That would mean losing ~3 inches and I just. won't. do it! :o
Anyway, at my growth rate of .4 in/month plus microtrims every 8 weeks, I am hoping to make APL by Christmas. Man, what a long haul. 18 months is my estimate.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've scanned through a few replies in this thread but can't figure out what APL means. What does it stand for? I'm pretty new here. Is there an abbreviation list somewhere?
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Oops, nevermind. I just looked in one of the sticky threads up top and found a list of abbreviations. Arm pit length!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!

:) Good for you Margaret! I am on 22.5" now but that is still a tiny 1/4" to APL. I didn't know that could differ so much!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ahh, I'm still here. I haven't measured, but I'm still close to APL....I think I may be around 23" or something like that. There is at least 6" from shoulder to APL for me....

I have a pretty much non-existant torso ;) I am 5'4 and its ALLL in my legs. From the bottom of my ribs to my hip bone is less than 2".
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm at an awkward stage where the longest pieces are resting on my back/shoulders and flipping outward, but the shorter layers are flipping in. So it's starting to look kind of chunky and disjointed.
I'm tempted to get the ends texturized or razored so that everything flows together a little more smoothly. Or I might just keep wearing it up until all of my layers are past the "flip" zone. I think it'll be a better shape once everything is past my shoulders.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Some days I'm at a solid APL, some days I'm still 2" away.... Sheesh.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I'm about an inch away from APL!
Hopefully a growth spurt will come soon and I'll be one milestone closer to BSL. :D

I'll give you a bit of my torso if you give me a bit of your legs :D I'm 5.4" too, and it's all in my torso! I wish I had long legs instead.
I think I'm pretty solidly at APL now... must take a length shot :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Oh! I'm an armpit aspirant too!
(singing)
All I want for Christmas is armpit length, armpit length, armpit length
I haven't measured it in inches, though... Still, I'm hoping for APL by midwinters. :cheese::cheese::cheese: :cheese::cheese::cheese:

All sing together now!:bounce:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am calling APL -1 now. It's too long to be considered shoulder length, but yet I still have an inch when wet to get to APL. About three inches until full APL, and that should be by the holidays. *Joins in on the singing* :D
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I hope I get APL for Christmas...my hair is taking so long! I literally think my hair has stopped growing! Maybe I just need to stop thinking about it.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'll prolly be at armpit length by Christmas, too. Soooo close!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just measured my hair for the first time. DH was like: :o but he still helped me measure it. He also helped me measure my goal lengths so now I can keep up with progress. Yay!
I realize I was at APL before my last trim but I had to cut out some damage so I cut a couple of centimeters off. Fortunately all the damage is now gone so I can grow it to my hearts content. :cheese:
Right now my hair is 53 cm, I'll reach APL at 56 cm and my goal (waist length) is at 75. Seems like I'm going for APL at Christmas too!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My stall seems to have stopped! :cheese:
Yey! I usually get a growth spurt in winter so I'm looking forward to that! I unfortunately won't be APL for christmas though so I can't join in the song celebrations :( since I'm solidly embracing the flip!
I'm hoping to be APL by June for my friends wedding though, I think that is a more achievable goal especially since I'm not trimming until I get there :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I asked my husband last night if my hair was at my armpits. He said that it was a little past where the lines start with my arms down, but the very ends were right where my armpits are with my arms raised. Therefore, I'm claiming "Can I call this armpit length?" until the weekend when I can do an actual length photo. If it's not quite there, I'm pretty sure I don't have far to go. :disco: I'm kind of shocked actually, I feel like it got longer overnight.

Congratulations for getting rid of the damage! :)

Great news about growth! :) I think erring on the safe side with an estimate is probably a good idea since if you get there sooner it will seem miraculous.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Well, 3.5" cut off and I'm halfway between shoulder length and APL.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Subscribing to the thread! Count me in! I have almost 4 inches left ti'll APL! YAY!
