Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Growing to APL is annoying because you can't do much with it, but after that, it's not so bad. Last time I grew from APL, it took me 6-7 months to reach bottom of bra strap. Honestly, growing out from just below chin this time around has been pretty darn easy. I started off with a cut that's a cinch to grow out. I have no layers, no bangs, no hair dye. It's hard to be patient at times though :p

No way to really know without knowing both how fast your hair grows (average is half an inch a month) nor how much longer you've got to go. For me, CBL to APL is about 4"? Or something like that. I'd like to have my husband measure my milestones for me, for more accuracy, but haven't gotten around to it lol. But for me to hit APL by my birthday (day before Christmas), I'll need to continue to grow about an inch a month. Since last month I had less than average growth, I'm not sure if that will happen or not. I'm a smidge below CBL, if I stretch my hair (it curls up on my shoulders as it dries).

Ugh yeah I hate it lol. I'm constantly saying "if I only had another inch!" about updos and such. Another inch, and my slightly shorter front bits would fall out of whatever I'm doing much less. Another inch and I could get one more bump on my braid. Another inch and my cinnabun attempts would have no escapees.

I don't think that "if I only had another inch" feeling ever goes away. Not as long as you hang out in this site, anyway :D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just noticed today and I'm sure it's happened out of nowhere that my right side my hair is significantly longer. It's closer to apl than the left side. Much more than it was a couple of weeks ago. It couldn't have grown that fast surely? I try to avoid looking at too much so when I do I can see growth (sometimes) but this is weird. I'm more concerned that it's actually snapping off one side making it appear to grow faster on the other .
I'm having a dilemma whether to leave it alone or trim a little. I hate losing length but I'm worried the ends that I still have from severe bleach damage could be causing the healthy hair to damage but splitting up the hair shaft , is that a possibility?

Haha so true! But I'm hoping it'll be less frustrating then. Right now that lack of inch means I can only do like 3 things and have them stay all day: a ponytail, double ponytail buns (where you don't pull the pony through the last loop of elastic all the way), and double french/dutch braids. Even a single ponytail bun slips out!! A cinnabun like my avatar explodes into a ponytail after a few hours as well, and I don't have the length for an english braid. An inch! That'd keep the cinnabun in a couple hours more, and the single ponytail bun in for maybe twice as long as it does now. And I'd get a smidge more for an english braid and that might be more worth it to do. I think my thickness doesn't help me, though.
I'm creeping up on a iii (I'm at 3.5"), so I do still have some of the "thick hair problems" (difficulty getting shampoo everywhere on the scalp, hairstyles need more length before they're possible), but I also don't have them all which is good I suppose. I'll still need less length than a true iii would to do things, but more than someone with finer or less hair.

Well if you're worried about breakage or splits, see if you can look at that bit of your hair for them. It's harder at shorter lengths, of course. And are you babying your ends, and keeping them up and protected as best as you can?
If it's just growing oddly, then I'd personally leave it until a bit later. Some people's hair grows very differently! There's someone here who has a patch in the back, I think, that grows noticeably slower than the rest!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm attempting to grow my hair to APL, hopefully I don't get bored and cut it. I agree with the person who said you can't do much with hair this short. Frustrating!

Welcome to the thread!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I can't see any splits or breakage it just looks fluffy at the ends. It's a totally different texture from the rest of my hair .
A lot of my hair fell out of excessive bleaching and I think the last couple of inches of my hair are still that bleach . I don't know how to look after my ends and I didn't know there was much I could do at this length. I've stopped all heat tools and only washing once maybe twice a week . I also only finger comb now. I wasn't sure what else I could do for my hair . It's never grown oddly before but I've never had hair this short either so maybe it wasn't so noticeable at longer lengths .
It feels like it takes forever to grow at this length . I'm excited to be able to do a braid one day. It's funny though I had waist length hair for years and years never had any interest in styling my hair or caring for it and now I can only dream of that hair again so I can learn a French braid and maybe more complex styles.
Thankfully some good has come from this I know to care for and advise my daughters and I have pics to show them what happened to my hair from bleaching hopefully they won't do the same . I'm trying to help them to have healthy hair too.
