Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
This will be my home away from home for a while. I just recently cut my below BSL (22) hair to shoulder length. I allowed my mother in law to cut it and well..... I'm not to happy. It isn't cut straight and looks botched. All I can hope for is fast growth. On to some pictures.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
The coconut cream was a success, my hair feels pretty good right now :) Though i did hear that it counts as a protein treatment (anybody have any ideas on that?), so i probably won't use it weekly.
Also i think i should have washed it out with shampoo instead of CO, my scalp still smells of coconut cream (and the day after it's no longer a good smell, ugh!). I'm going to wash it again in a minute, because the smell is on my fingers every time i touch my scalp..

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Welcome, MrsPuddinHead! :) Your hair looks good to me in your pic :) Remember, we're our own worst critics..
MegaMystery, I'd like to try the coconut cream too...but I don't think that my hair likes protein :( But I loooooove coconut!!
My Nightblooming's Panacea arrived today! (along with the Ficcare that I got off the swap board) :D I was trying to figure out what to do for Treatment Tuesday, and well, the answer arrived in the post! :bigtongue:
I'm so excited!! :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I started Treatment Tuesday already yesterday. This means:
- I damped my hair with aloe vera spray and put some sesame oil in it and put up my hair for the night.
- This morning I didn't wash, I just damped it with water and put some Giovanni 50:50 conditioner in it. This stays in my hair until the evening... (but this is my usual morning routine, only different condi as my regular one is empty.)
- Then I will do some sports later in the evening, rinse it well with water and CO wash with the 50:50 conditioner (while it will stay on my head during some sauna). :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was going to wait until Towel Test Thursday to measure but I couldn't help myself today..
I measured about.. oh, I don't know... 50 times (:p), and I'm now definitely a solid 21"! :)
I think I only have one more stripe on my t-shirt until I'm APL!

I'm sorry you're here because of a botched cut :( but welcome just the same :). We do treatments every Tuesday (Treatment Tuesday) and towel tests the first Thursday of the month (Towel Test Thursdays). I hope you join us for that.

Glad to hear the coconut cream worked, now I want to try it :D. Apparently coconut cream has only a little bit of protein (.5 grams per TBS) so perhaps it works like coconut oil in that it helps hair retain protein???

Ahh you must tell us how the Panacea is and what you think of the Ficcare.

Terra, I've never used sesame oil for the hair-- what's it like?
Millyaulait good job, you're all most there!!! :cheer:
Almost forgot to add: my Treatment Tuesday will be a mask of molasses and Ion Extreme Moisture Creme. Might do a protein treatment with Colorful Neutral Protein Filler if I am feeling ambitious!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Okay, Treatment Tuesday, was actually Trim Tuesday for me :happydance:
Spent the afternoon in the salon, and came back with a new color, and a trim. It sure looks a lot healthier, but I'm still getting used to the color, it looks too warm on me. I'm giving it a few weeks to get used to... My hairdresser did compliment me on the state my hair was in, seeing as the last time I had it trimmed was on July 1st last year :o
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-PFSOIPSP.jpg
I don't think I lost a lot of length in the longest layers, so APL is still pretty close...

Your hair is VERY beautiful and I love your layers!! It's the kind of cut I'm aiming for once my hair will get to around APL ;)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I did a "sneak peak" towel test this morning to see roughly how far away I am from APL, and have decided that even once I reach it, it's still going to feel so short. =/ I was hoping that once I reached APL I could at least do a cinnabun, but I don't know how much that 1.5 to 2 inches is gonna help! =_=
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you Sillage. I live in California but am originally from Alabama. My hair isn't used to such dry air so I'm thinking for treatment Tuesday doing a Cholesterol treatment. Since it acts as a deep conditioner it should help. Don't mean to sound dumb but what are towel tests..??
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Oh, not dumb at all, I didn't know about them until a few weeks ago. It's where you wrap a towel around yourself under your arms securely and then use a hand mirror or something to look into the bigger mirror and see if the ends of your hair reach the top of the towel, as the towel sits at APL ( if it isn't slipping) and is a good visual to see if you've reached that landmark yet. :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was within a half inch of APL this morning (when wet and stretched) but just did a substantial trim of over an inch. I originally planned to cut a half inch, but ended up cutting more to get rid of some layering. I like layers, but I feel like my hair has TOO many layers to the point where the ends are too thinned out and losing their shape. I think that after this trim today I might keep trimming the new growth on my bottom layer for a few more months just to have less layering and more blunt ends. I honestly just see no point to longer hair w/out nice, thick ends. So, apparently, I will be here awhile longer than anticipated! HAHA I feel like I've been posting on this thread FOREVER!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hanging out at LHC kinda makes me feel like everyone else's hair is growing except mine...I told myself I'd only do length shots every 3 months to guarantee some progress. The 3 months are up and guess what? It grew! How about that?

There's no way I'll be at APL be before 2013 but at least it's growing!

It's a little hard to tell with the angle just how much you've grown, but it looks like a lot!

Your hair is so pretty!

When I was getting my hair trimmed, my hairdresser said to me, "Your hair is getting SO long!" I wasn't really sure whether I should agree or disagree. :p My hair hasn't ever been this long, and it feels long!

If read it in a different forum, that it makes the hair really soft when using it as a prewash and my hair seems to like it a lot, too!
Compared to other oils (macadamia nut, olive...) my hair feels softer directly after applying it. With the other oils it felt a little bit rough.
And after washing it out (with CO) and drying it looks more nourished, than with other oils.
Argan oil shall be another good oil for the hair. I have it at home, but I've not tried it yet...
BTW: I prefer to put oil on damped hair. (But every hair is different.)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Beautiful color Katleen! Looks so healthy!
Looks like your hair has grown a lot Georgies! Love your waves!
I still have a few inches to go to reach APL. I will probably need 1 more trim to get rid of the layers.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Nah, I think it was the camera angle. It grew somewhere between 2-3 inches - hard to tell with curly hair. I'm hopeless with measuring. I need to switch to doing length shots from the back!

2-3 inches in 3 months is quite a lot, considering the average growth rate is .5in/mo.

Exactly this! Even 2 inches in 3 months is faster than the average..I think that you're being your own worst critic.
And I know it's hard to tell with curly hair, that's why I straighten my hair as much as possible for length shots..otherwise I'd go crazy thinking it's in the same place :p

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Too true, one of my friends has 3c hair and she only gets it cut once a year and it never seems to get longer, just bigger.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am so close to APL, just an inch or so. I will try to get a photo but Photobucket does not like me for some reason... But it is growing and I just leave it up most of the time so I am not obsessing over it. At least I can get it into a bun. That is progress for me!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi all! :)
I'm going to the hairdresser on Monday to cut my APL hair off to SL. Thought I would peek in here and introduce myself. The reason I'm cutting is because of bleach. I'm going to cut off as much as I can stand to lose and get healthy, beautiful hair. :cheese:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Welcome Malin!
I'm getting slightly depressed about my new color :( I was afraid it was too warm for my skintone, I need really ashy colors... This was a color 7N so according to my hairdresser very neutral. He was afraid to put on an ashy tone as it might turn out green.
I cannot count the people who have asked me in the last few days if I'm sick, or if I feel okay, because I don't look so healthy... I know, that's why I cannot stand warmth in my hair, it makes me look sick. I need massive amounts of make-up on my face to make me look slightly alive. And I feel bad about wearing that much make-up, that just isn't me...
Because I don't want to damage my hair any more than it already is, I'm not even thinking about putting something over it. Even if I would, all the box dyes or rinses you'll find are in warm tones, not a cool tone to be found...
Sorry to vent about this, but I was quite happy with the trim and I thought I could get used to the color, but I can't... I almost want to cry everytime I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror...

Hi Malin!! :)
Katleen, we can't see what your hair looks like against your skintone, since we only see the back of your head ;) But I thin the color itself is lovely..
Maybe give yourself some more time to get used to it?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hey Daniverde,
I'll see if I can post a picture this evening or during the weekend... The color itself is nice enough, but I have a very cool skin tone...
This looks completely reddish on my head, and even orange under certain lighting :-(

Thanks for the welcome, I'm happy to be here! :)
You don't think the color is going to wash out a bit? Maybe that will help? :/ I'm sorry you don't like your new haircolor :grouphug:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi all, I have a question.
At what length did you claim shoulder length? I think I should be there by the end of May. My hair pulled straight hits my trap muscle area, but if I were to draw a line between the tips of both shoulders, I still have around 2 inches to go.

I claimed shoulder when it touched my shoulders (link to photo), even though it hit the line you speak of 2 months later (link to photo).

Eh, I've always seen shoulder length and collarbone length as one and the same. I guess it depends on your feeling? Never heard any black or white claim on this so I just consider it at the same level as the tips of the shoulders.
