Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm finally shoulder length, which is pretty big for me, because my hair hasn't been this long in about 8 years! :D
I hope I can get encouragement from this thread! I keep getting terrible hair envy and feeling rather pitifully short-haired when I see all these lovely longhairs with waist-length and longer hair. :thud:
luthien_belewen, I've just started having that problem! It's also getting caught under the strap of my bag now

I joined a year ago, but my hair was only at pixie length back then. LHC did not change much on my routine, since there is pretty much the same knowledge on the German boards. :p Thought I love the recipe section here :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I can't figure out if I'm shoulder yet or if I still belong in the "super shorties" group :o. It's hard to tell when growing an untrimmed pixie because the layers start out so weird.
As you can see the back flips out a ton, if I hold it straight its a bit longer :( The first pic is about a month old...Front is still at chin *sigh* So I'm either shoulder or somewhere lost and undefined between chin and shoulder...

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
This is your call really but if it were me, I would not call myself a particular lenght until I had a style I would want to keep at that lenght. If I wanted to stay with a layered cut I'd call myself shoulder, if not I'd call it a shag. I did both in my life so I know what I'm talking about lol :D. My hair was in a straight line with the tip of the shoulders though.

hmmm, okee interesting. I'm not going to trim it or cut it blunt accross or anything so I guess I will keep it this way. Im hoping within a few more months it will just grow out into semi normal looking layers.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
maddy, it's probably still a month or two till you can call it shoulder length. I'd call it chin length right now ;)

I think I agree. You are making great progress, though!
Really, don't rush to be shoulder length, it will just make it seem like you are stuck here longer. :)

haha ok, I'll check back in next month!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Almost almost there! The first time my hair hit my shoulders was just a few months ago (first time in my life.. hair has always been short before). Actually my longest layer is hitting APL, but because i want to have a thicker hem I need to get a 2 inch trim or so :(.
-shortest layer only mouth length-
So i'll stay in this thread for a while!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I like it here......so many nice people to talk to and all with the same goal!! OK, I "am"having a good hair day, but really, the time does fly. I was in "shorties" before coming here and I still go back to visit and check on everyone's progress!

Look how fast it grew from Feb to June! You'll be at shoulder length in no time! Well technically, you are already in some ways. My shortest layer is at my chin and my longest is just below my shoulder, so I am somewhere in between too! Anyway, I'd consider you like...Neck length?

Yes, I would also say "neck length." Your hair "really" does grow quickly!!;)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks :D Yeah I guess I'd say neck too...lost somewhere between chin and shoulder *sigh* Soon!!!! Thanks for saying it grows fast, it feels like it's taking forever!

You are very welcome! I know how you feel, but trust me, it "will" grow!!:p

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
OMG this week i came SOOOOO close to cutting my hair!! I even went to the hairdressers to book and appt, but luckily they were shut!
After tying my hair up all week, being in a constant bad mood and moaning 24/7 to my bf i booked myself in for a colour and treatment. I know its not the best thing for may hair but if it distracts me from cutting i dont mind too much! I had a dark brown put on (semi) and blond slices through the fringe :D I love it! My next cut is october so i think i will manage :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
all this wearing me up the past couple weeks is giving me encouragement to keep itt up throughout the entire month of Sept...maybe even longer...it will be fun to show it off after time

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Urgh, when will it be APL?! I'm hoping with the help of a couple of hairpins that I can get hairsticks to stay in around that length. Ponytails day in day out make me a sad panda.

Me too! I was doing french twists before my trim, but now my shortest layers fall out again. The problem I have with ponytails is the breakage from the elastic. Today I did a sock bun, and it was nice to get the hair off my neck.

I heard that! I've got a constant wave in my hair from keeping it up all the time, too. I need some new styles...

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
OH! I have a couple to 3 more inches to go........
Then I may be able to put it all up in the back and try to forget about it.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
This morning after washing my hair in the shower, I thought "this sure looks like APL - could it be " So I just had to re-measure and low and behold, I reached 23" wet/dry ( straight) which is APL on me :cheese:
Too bad my hair shrinks up (darn those curls) after it's completely dry. So, I'll stay with this thread for another month or two until I can call it APL curly before moving on to the "APL to BSL" thread.
Nevertheless, I am very happy to see this progress. Haven't had my hair this long in over 15 years :D
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm sticking around till my dry/curly hair is undoubtably APL before I call it, I just call it APLish right now..
Once I offically make APL, my wet/straightened hair will reach BSL...oh the joys, lol
I'm so ready to do some more styles, but I did make up a fun style for my APLish layered hair (I can't link it through my phone, but you can find it in my recent posts)..
I have been wearing my hair UP the past 2 weeks, and hoping to till October when I take more length pics, I haven't taken any (or wore my striped shirt) since June-I think I can already see growth-this is exciting ;)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ok, here is a question......how "does" one determine if their hair is armpit length?? I know this sounds a little silly, but I really am confused (a common state for me!LOL!!) Is there a photo lurking around TLHC somewhere to use as a guideline?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Put a tape measure in your arm pits, to create a line across your back. A towel works too. :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
yep thats what I do! when you get out of the shower wrap a towel around you, under your arms
that is apl :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
THANK YOU!!!
LOL - I was wondering this yesterday when I was looking at my hair I'm closer to APL than I thought (I think - just because my hair's grown so much since a month ago, or so it seems!) going to take pictures tonight for some sort of progress/starting point.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have about two inches to go until I hit solid APL when dry. It seems to be taking way longer than last time I went from shoulder to APL, and I don't know why. I'm not paying as much attention to my hair and wearing it up every day too, so that's really weird. :p

This is a bit off topic, but I have a shirt that looks identical to your striped one. :D
I will be measuring and taking pics for comparison for the first time next month. I have no idea how fast my hair grows. How often do you usually take pics?
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm going to be here for ages. I'm trimming out dye as I grow. It'll end up that about a third of my growth will be trimed away.
Two goals at one time :(
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I can finally say I've reached Shoulder.. I'm hoping to get to APL by November/December :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm a bit past shoulder and it's growing nicely. I'm not even going to hazard a guess as to when I'll hit APL again. It should be soon though.
I'm in the neglect stage. It will pay off in 6 months or so. :D
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have albums you can look at if you want, I used to take pics every month, then went to every 2 months after I was here for a while, this time I'm going 4 months, may or may not make a habbit of it? My hair grows real slow in the cold!!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Im at about 3/4 of an inch past collarbone. My hair is a tad longer at the back and the front has layers that frame my face....so it seems shorter!
Im at the stage it doesnt feel like its growing at all! But it is:D
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm just past collarbone when wavy/dry. I seem to have hit some kind of odd seasonal stall. I'm hoping for APL by the end of October!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I might just be able to call it (APL) but I won't have pics for 2 more weeks.. So I'll wait till then :). Hope the albums are fixed by then
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am hoping to make it by the end of the year. If I cheat and hold my arms out to the side I am almost there.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Its growing! I got it into a lazy wrap bun just now. I couldn't do it even 2 weeks ago. So what if its not the most stable. I'm not doing much tomorrow, I shall wear my new bun!
