Your hair has grown and it looks great! You're pretty close to APL. If you are loosing length to breakage you can tell because your shed hair won't have bulbs at one end (the root). If you're feeling adventurous you can use Manic Panic or Kool Aid or some other temporary way to color a small strand of your hair without damage and watch the roots so you can see how much it grows from the roots. I hope you'll start gaining more length, I'm sure with proper care you can. :)
I know how you feel I've seen a few people who are pretty much at my length and that's exciting. :D
That's cool. Rooibos teas work great for making hair growth faster.
Congratulations on reaching APL with your longer layers. I'm sure the other layers will catch up in no time. I love your waves, the CG method is really working for you. Non-straight hair can be tricky to work with, but it's so pretty it's worth it! :D
Congrats on reaching APL! :D
Thank you, Roscata! :)
Also guys, try a lazy wrap bun. I'm getting one to stay now. Especially if I damp bun or put a bit of coconut oil on the ends. Mine holds really well with a bent knitting needle.
I typically just read along with this thread but I'm so excited that I feel I need to share this picture. Ignoring the horrible state of the dye in both pictures (for the April picture I snapped it just before redoing it to the colour combo it's in now, so it's been a month and the pink has washed out) and the odd bend from my ponytail in the April picture, I can't believe the growth. Last from March to April I grew and inch, and frankly I can't wait till the 15th to measure again.

Speaking of hairstyles, I think it's time I show you all what I've been obsessed about lately. I promised you all that when it calmed down in here that I'll share it. I hope you'll try out this style for this weekend. I know I will! You know what it is I'm thinking about......"The sock bun!"
I wanted to think of a style everyone (including those who have just joined our group) can easily do! Well this style has been talked about numerously in LHC and I have friends who made tutorial articles on how to make one (See Luxepiggy's article). I think everyone in here should be able to make an appropriate sock bun size for your length. Here is my first attempt:
My first attempt almost looks like a messy bun:

But you all (I'm addressing to all Americans) must think rowie that is soooo small "Show me Bigger!".
Ok I had to prepare for this because it seems like in American culture we're always looking for Bigger! Hence why we Americans come up with slogans "Think Big"
Well Ok! Let me blow this Mutha-F#$@%*^! Joint Apart!

Have a big blast weekend trying the sock bun!
Ok so I took a tt pic anyway. I'm starting monistat and wanted a length shot for that. So here is my pic. I have so far to go...

Towel Test 5/4/12 by KailaMama, on Flickr
That is a GINORMOUS sock bun! Great job!
I've officially had to hide my new hair scissors from myself :p
On the upside, I haven't lost any length, my hair feels AWESOME and soft and fantastic, and my newly thickened hemline seems to be making it look a little longer, at least to me.
Also, after dying my hair on Friday or Saturday, I can't remember which, my roommate pointed out that my ROOTS were visible. :D
Just snapped my hairstick in two while trying a lazy wrap bun :-(
I was thinking I might be eligible for a whole new range of buns now, but on the first try, my stick broke and I'm finished already... Pfff...
I am jumping on the shoulder to APL bandwagon! I am growing out my hair from a pixie cut (from two years ago).
It never occurred to me my hair would be long enough for a sock bun! Will have to try that! Maybe in a few days post washing when it is a little less slippery...
Welcome, Maradeerfarmer!
Sock buns are great because your hair seems a lot longer than it actually is. Especially Rowie's last bun :-) Love that!!!
I have a wedding to go to in the summer, and I want a gigantic sock bun on the top of my head, just hope to have enough length to cover all the socks I'm planning to use...
Thank you!
This is such a great place to go because we're really not alone!
Hang in there all!
@Terra,
You're absolutely right, I do need to start taking supplements. Thank you for the inspiration - your hair looks so thick!
@Battles,
Thud! Your hair looks like you have so much light, flowing hair. The cut looks like a million bucks too!
I'm juuust starting to grow beyond shoulder length. It's still there but now it hangs long enough behind them to stay behind my shoulders if I lean forward a bit. But if I go further it spills right over my shoulders and gets in the way again. :D So close yet sooo far.
I was excited this morning to see that I could make my first real Cinnabun. My hair has never been this long in my adult life.
Rowie, it's reasons like this that I absolutely adore you! :D If you and your boo ever come to Finland, you will definitely have a place to stay for your visit! :flower:
I have a question for everyone who can do the lazywrap or cinnabun....what do you do with your ends??!! Mine refuse to stay tucked under, and just slide out, eventually taking the rest of my hair with them! What am I missing?
If it's long enough it will stay tucked under if it's not slippery on wash day. Lazy wrap: If I don't start high enough on my head then it's not long enough and it just falls out. For a cinna bun try a spin pin, they have short ones
Yours may take a while longer though. You are much thicker than me. Just the price you pay for thick lovely hair.
So where is apl on everyone? I think it's 24 on me. So 5 1/2 inches to go. I'm 5'5" tall by the way.
Thanks for the tips, ravenheather! I think I just have to accept that it'll be a while before my hair is long enough for those. Maybe I'll try a sock bun :)
I'm not sure, since I don't measure...it would drive me nuts :D But I do know that I'm 157cm tall, which seems to be 5'1". So, I'm short :p
I'm 5'5 and APL for me is 22 inches.
I had a feeling mine would be longer than some others. I have a long torso. Well if I ever have hair past classic my markers will be quicker since my legs are short.
APL is about 22" on me and I'm 5'4".

these are taken just a couple days apart, so the length is nearly exactly the same.
It looks to me like I'm most definitely at APL since I've started my summer growing though, yesss :D
ETA: I'll see you guys at the APL to BSL thread! I'm calling it good now since I'm clearly past APL.
I haven't quite figured out the measuring thing yet, I'd probably have to get my fiance to do it for me, I'm 5'5'' though, so probably around 23-25 inches, but that never made sense to me really because if you pluck a hair from my head, it most certainly is not that long! Oh well. :) I did a towel test today and I'm about an inch shy of my longest layer reaching APL! I'm so excited, I think I might actually get to have APL hair for my wedding!
I probably should have added that I'm about 5'2"
Bye, uptosomeone! *waves* Hopefully see you soon! :D
I'm not sure where APL is on me.. I know BSL is around 25-27", and waist is around 30-32".
I'm 5'6, and currently at 22.5", so.. I mean... I really *should* be APL by now, but in pictures it just doesn't seem it yet. Maybe my camera angles are wrong or something.
I do kind of want to wait until my front layer hits APL in the front too, which is at least another inch.
I guess I will find out where I am when I manage to do my late TTT. :)
Here's a tutorial on the lwb with a fork, stick and flexi.

I think APL is around 25" on me and I'm 5'7. I thought I was at APL the other day when I did a towel test but I had my sister trim my hair and she cut off WAY more than I told her to. Now I'm a good few inches off again.
I'm at 22.5 inches, 5' 7.5 inches tall. MY Dh measured the distance between the end of my hair and the towel and he said it's less than an inch away, about 3/4 of an inch. I'm hoping to be confidently at APL by the end of June :) I hope!!
I'm not sure where APL is on me, I do know that my hair is now approx. 21", and it still isn't there. So maybe 23"? It doesn't seem too far off.. I'm going to upload a length shot (belated TTT) today or tomorrow for you guys :).
BTW, i finally uploaded the pictures of my headband curls/interview look to photobucket, so here you are:

Have a great sunday everyone! :flower:
Oh wow, MegaMystery, those are extremely lovely curls! I was not aware it was possible to do that with a headband :) !!
All the rest of you growers, very nice pictures!!! I've only been following this thread for two months or so and I never really spent much time thinking about growth before (what brought me to LHC initially was more hair care rather than growth) but I'm really quite amazed how quickly hair grows! There is clear progress on everyone!
As for myself, I was on holiday and totally off-line last week. I haven't had a chance to take pictures yet and I think I'll just skip this month. I'm in the middle of a stretching washes experiment anyway and if I let my hair down it ain't pretty at the moment.
Another thing I was wondering about... most of you seem to take the measurements when the hair is wet. Is that the "official" way to measure? For myself that always seems kind of like cheating ;). I don't think I would feel like I had APL hair unless it looked APL dried... I don't inted to offend here, I'm reallt just wondering... :o
Anyway, I just love looking at the pictures in this thread :D
Hi piratejenny!
I know that at least for me, rowie, and terra, as curlies we get the most accurate measurements when wet/damp. Since our hair could curl very differently from day to day, and because of shrinkage, if we measured when dry, we may measure at 22" one day, 25" the next, and 20" the day after that! ;)
