Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It will be back in no time, and much more healthy! I am considering a trim very soon, I want a little bit more length first...I just hit shoulder, but the damage on the front may not hold out. There is one area of my hair (the crown) that is always more damaged than the rest.

So.. I made an appointment to get a trim. I'm going to ask for a half inch to an inch off. I feel half sad, because I feel like a failure; and half excited, because it'll be a step closer to no layers. Plus cut out some damage. Sigh.
The previous post was in response to this one!

I don't know how to post my picture, but I did put my hair pic in my profile. I straightened it today, just to see how long it is. I figured out that I'm losing 2.5 inches to shrinkage, not as much as I thought, but it makes a difference. I'm hoping to get solidly to APL by Christmas! :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I alternate between shampoo then condition, and CO. I like to use suave naturals coconut for my CO washes. I wash two or three times in a week.
I used to do clay washes and I think I might start that up again soon.

I wanted to wait for more length also; at least until I could get my hair into a reasonable bun. However, I just can't stand it any longer. It looks terrible.
Good luck on yours. Is yours from heat damage? That's what did me in..

I have recently been trying to figure it out. It is odd to me that its just the front/crown area. The back and under layers are super strong. All I can think is it was the amount of heat I used while growing from my pixie, to mullet poof, to chin. I have tried oiling the ends recently and some mane n tail in hopes to repair/salvage some of the damage, but I know that when I get it trimmed off I will feel so much better, and it will grow better too. Sigh. I am thinking about holding off until October, and maybe keeping it up as much as I can until then. But I also keep thinking...the sooner the better...
For the first time since high school, I have virgin hair though, no color. I am also considering henna...I have heard it helps make ends stronger...however I am not sure what to use, I have very red hair naturally and was told that if I did it I may end up orange.

Orange from henna is far more likely with light blonde, henna tends more towards copper/auburn depending on concentration. There are quite a few redheads on here that use henna to strengthen/kick up the red (have the same hair colour they had as a kid ).

I would LOVE to have the same copper red I had as a kid. I have tried red traditional dyes in the past, and end up purple or stop engine and hated it. I may have to look into it, maybe kick up my dark auburn. Thanks for the info!

Here is my hair for a colour comparison (overnight, strong henna over dark auburn hair) first henna in sunlight, third henna in flash, and indoors (if you look at the scalp cleavage in the flash picture you can see my natural colour at the roots). Henna won't get you lighter, but it will certainly get your red brighter.
ETA also check out Sqiggyflop, she does a much lighter henna, I'm going more for a burgundy colour.

Welcome mermaid74! Sit down, have a nice cup of tea/coffee/your beverage of choice and some biscuits :).
In terms of wanting a more orangey/red henna, you might want to try yemeni. I've used yemeni light for a strawberry blonde colour in the past, so if you want to avoid the more "purpley/burgundy" red on your base that might be a good one. Lots of people on the henna board should be able to help you with this.
