CWC upside down wash with Toadstool soap every 5-7 days. First C is suave or VO5, second C is Suave Naturals with shea butter or Dove, depending on whether I need protein or not that week. My roots are oilier than my dyed hair, and it's taken months to get used to my natural hair wash schedule because I used to go for weeks only CO washing before I shampoo'd when I was bleached out.
Towel Test Tuesday! Towel-dried hair after wash day, haven't oiled it yet, though, so it's not terribly stretched. I'm getting close!

Also, I just got my 1st fork from 60th street, when it's all dry, I'll throw it into a French twist (the only non-braid updo I can do at this length other than a cinnabun) to show it off.

I'm impressed by Wildcat's bunning skills! I'm not expecting to do anything remotely pleasing aesthetically until I hit APL.
I think shoulder around or slightly shorter is what on the FAQ calls "flip length"

I would consider this shoulder length, but some might not, because it looks longer than a normal "lob" haircut"

I'm having a hard time with styling, but I figure the boringness now will pay off once I hit WL. That's when I'll be happy with my hair, even though Classic is my goal.

I CO-wash about... twice or three times a week! I oil before, sometimes and i use cocounut oil in my ends. Thats about it! I rarely ever use any other products :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Also wanted to add I detangle before washing with a body shop comb then I use a BBB and sometimes I use coconut oil prewash. I wash every other day.
For my washing method I CWC as well, first with a suave v05 or tresemme naturals and I was with essential oils brand non sls and paraben free etc. My hair has become accustomed to it and it cleanses really well for me and makes my hair feel thicker even when rinsing it (my hair feels heavier). I do my last 'C' with cones... ice shine or long term relationship right now. I love ice shine. I can't wait to run out of products so I can try some new things but it takes me years to use everything up.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It's really interesting to know other people's washing methods at this sort of length!
I've found it weird adjusting to having mostly virgin non-damaged hair, before my hair was parched and I would use so much oil, conditioner, masks, various treatments. I could also go a week without washing, but now my hair seems to get greasier faster. I've been trying to BBB to move the sebum down but I have barely any length for the sebum to go to now.
ApatheticFairy your hair is definitely looking to be almost APL (I assume it will shrink a little when dry). Thanks for the pictures clarifying things.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am Apl in the back but I won't call it til I am apl in the front. I only have a 1 1/2in til i am in the front, so I 'should' be there in dec.:D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I don't have a set washing routine, really. It depends on how much time I have :)
I do a CWC when I have time, but during the week it's usually just shampoo followed by baby oil. I've noticed that cwc + baby oil = grease overkill by the end of the day.
I'm getting very close to APL :) A lot sooner than I expected!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm waiting for my side bits in the back to hit the towel when wet before I move to APL to BSL because my layers in the front and the back have such a different length, so I'm compromising with myself xD
Ok. So... my first hair fork finally came in from 60th st. My cinnabun still has a few shorter bits sticking out, but here ya'll go. Pink Ivory, the longest size they have without an extra charge, like 6 inches, IIRC.

And default work hairstyle, the French Twist as describes in the Ficcare tutorials, only with a fork because Ficcares are too expensive right now. xD

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I told myself I'd wait until BSL to start trimming out my damage. However, I'm doing marathon S&D sessions multiple times a week, and I'm not seeing an end to the horrible damage. There is a patch in the front that was unruly, so I'd flat iron the heck out it. This spot is very obviously damaged.
So.. I made an appointment to get a trim. I'm going to ask for a half inch to an inch off. I feel half sad, because I feel like a failure; and half excited, because it'll be a step closer to no layers. Plus cut out some damage. Sigh.

Currently I use the oil shampoo method (coconut mixed with a non-coating shampoo, mine has SLES) and follow that with a citric acid rinse. I might use a tiny bit of coconut oil or mineral oil afterwards on damp hair, but lately I haven't been needing that. I wash once every three days. I also do a coconut oil deep treatment twice a month.
Before this I CO-washed, from pixie to about shoulder length. I used a lighter conditioner to wash and a second one to condition, and also used a leave-in conditioner or oil. I did a SMT once a week and clarified once every three weeks. It was ok but I don't think I really needed that much conditioning. I had to do a sort of WO-wash on the days between because it got oilier more quickly than it does now.

Hello, I am a newbie. I just hit shoulder, and am on my way to apl. My final goal is hip. I would love to join you all!
