The best heat-free method for me are headband curls.

With damp hair, and styling mousse to help the curls hold their shape, and a lot of bobby pins because otherwise my hair falls out. But it works!

ETA: There are a lot of these videos on youtube, can't remember the one I watched, you'll get the idea...

I've watched that video many times, I have never even attempted a sock bun... I don't think I have enough hair. I can't do the majority of the things people with 'normal' hair can... I literally have baby hair and all of the hair on my head is 1/8th of what everyone else has. I would need a frikken infant sock... :(

I am so sorry. I have cut a sock in half when I wanted to use a smaller bun.

But how about a panty hose?

I have fine, thin hair too. I used a rolled up baby legwarmer and still could barely cover the sock!

I'm afraid panyhose would be too slippery but that would be worth a try... I will also try a baby sock. I love sock bun curls the best they're so easy and pretty! I'd like to be able to wear a sock bun in public too.

At my length, rolling my hair in the sock doesn't work at all, but if I use a big fat sock (or a hair doughnut) and the classic wrapping method, it works out fine. It's so short that I don't have to do crazy things with the ends to hide them :) That might work for you?

It won't give you girls though. ETA: curls! Not girls! Lolz :D
