Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Secret Soup thats great! So exciting to be closer than you thought! And yes, a second pair of eyes can be so helpful!
Hey Bat! I know what you mean, you get used to checking in on a certain thread.
So I finally trimmed. I couldn't go any longer. I noticed that the ends were just starting to look bad. I went for almost 16 months without a trim so I think that is pretty impressive. But I realized even if I kept growing without a trim, I would not enjoy my hair at all until I trimmed AND have to cut all that hair off anyway. So silly. I think I probably have trimmed off half an inch. Hemline still needs work but my plan is to do another very tiny trim in either December or January. I really can't believe what a difference such a small trim can make! My hair is curling up more than it was and just looks better. And shorter of course! Not just because of the trim, but because of it being wavier at the ends now.
I have worn my hair up pretty much every single day since June. So today I am wearing my hair down and it feels SO long! Which is a nice bonus right after a trim.
So, I will be here a while longer. Yay! :) This is like day 3 hair but it's been sprayed with water and combed, then allowed to dry and combed again. No products.

Yeah I used a cuticle sealer I used to have no issues with but I guess my hair quit its job and snapped like wet noodles so I had to shave it off. Thanks though! I kind of like it too

Wow, wow, wow! Your hair looks amazing. How on earth did you trim yourself? I'm desperate for a trim. Just reached a full year since that ill-fated cut (to chin when I asked for shoulder...) Keep contemplating going into a salon and just begging them to actually listen but I'm afraid they won't. But my ends are bad. Almost sticky if that makes sense. And getting really tangled. I also ahve layers so I'm afraid an inch in overall length will only really cure my longest strands. Sigh.

Thank you so much InTheCity! That is so nice of you to say! I did the Feyes Trim, the straight across method.
https://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/
The key for me has been to look down at the floor when making my ponytail and pulling the scrunchie down, and to then split it in half, bring each half to the front and trim just a tiny bit on each side to make it even, like she says to do. I have had the best results with that method and those adjustments.
The only thing is, your hair has to be long enough to make a ponytail and pull the end in front of you to trim. It's one reason I waited so long to trim, I wanted to make sure that I could.

My gosh, that was the same set of instructions floating around last time I was on this forum. My hair definitely isn't long enough for this method and even when it is, it seems that so few hairs are left in a scrunchy that it falls right off if I want to only trim an inch or so.
I just went nuts with scissors without rhyme or reason and think I successfully trimmed 1/2" or so to quite a few ends. Some places I took a whole inch based on the pile of hair on my counter but the chunks of hair were just a few strands. This is why/how I always end up with a huge chop at salons, I swear. They'll cut me and see the most pathetic little pile of hair on the floor and assume they need to cut more.
I don't have nearly enough hair at length to care about an even hemline anyway, plus the wavy/whurly of it all. I need this forum to give me the strength to dedicate the long haul to getting a thicker hemline while growing.

Hah hah yep! They have been around for a long time and I have used it for years. But I didn't start actually getting a straight hemline with it until I started looking down at the floor. I know what you mean about the scrunchy. I actually used a tiny scrunchy this time but have also used a ribbon hair band. No need for a scrunchy.
It sounds like you gave yourself a successful trim! The joys of being a wurly! I think I will do another 1/4 in to 1/2 in trim in December or January. I think as long as I set a date and an amount to trim and DO NOT go beyond that, I will be ok. I have a history of trimming a small amount, and then deciding that it still looks thin, and trimming more, and more, and eventually just giving myself a big chop. So set dates and amounts I think will work. hopefully! Fingers crossed for both of us!

Thanks for the tips! When I do trim my hair, this is the method I'll try. Not until the end of the year, though. :)
