A cinnabun, with 2 spin pins. And a baby nautilus with my wee stick.
I'm determined to get all the use out of these pink ends that I can, while I still have them. Once I've cut out my bleach my pink will be a totally different shade. Debating whether at that point to go all-over, half-and-half, pink underlayer, or all of those in turn. IDK! I'm gonna miss the blank canvas a little bit (but at least all my hair will feel so nice again).
determination, prayers, and only photographing the successes and not the many tries previously where my hair violently spits out my fork... ;D My hair is middle to lower ii, fine, compacts down a lot, and doesn't have much of a wave to it (to bulk it up), which I think are all probably factors. What's tripping me up is I keep trying to wrap my buns the way I did when my hair was longer and obviously, that method doesn't work for me right now. And sticks are still a no go. I almost got a disc bun to stay the other day but it definitely exploded.
Yes it's a really great one! Since it splits your hair in half before you wrap it, you can generally use it earlier. How much earlier just depends on your hair thickness, of course. I couldn't do it and have it stay more than 20% of the time until recently (and now it's maybe half the time? But once it's up it's up for awhile). A con to my thickness/lack of compatibility for sure! I'm pretty sure I'm going to need halfway to BSL at least for anything more than the disc bun or a cinnabun with a fork.
You just need to find what works for you! I can use a stick in a disc bun and only a disc bun if I want it to stay more than an hour (except in the case of a fluke lol). But I've got a few forks, and have learned that the more prongs means the more hold! Buns at this length don't look too much like buns sometimes, but it's up and comfy and stable so I don't mind. Cinnabuns look mostly like cinnabuns, but a lil squished! Anything else looks like nothing or like a cinnabun! LOL.
My roommate has very fine hair (granted she's somewhere between waist and hip), and can use a stick just fine! For her it's more about the length because if it's too short her bun loops slip over the end(s) and her bun falls out. I'd think at your length a stick on the shorter side might work, and a fork almost certainly will. Especially 3-4 prong forks. My best fork, in terms of hold, is my 4-prong Wee Shell from Baerreis Collection. It only has a 3.5" functional prong length (FPL), which is enough for me for now, but if your hair is more fine/thinner/more compatible/shorter it should be enough!
You could always try! Forks have the bonus of making your buns spread some, which makes them look bigger! But they hold so nicely! You might need to get a light one, though. Mine is wood and barely weighs a thing! But I can say the same for my acrylic stick lol.
Is there any written instructions to disc bun somewhere? I tried to google but I couldn't find any, and I just don't like watching videos
I can give you some!
Make a pony where you'd like your bun to sit, and hold it with one hand (no elastic, although you could probably use one if you really wanted to).
Split the hair hanging from your first hand in half, taking one half with your free hand.
Wrap that half OVER your index finger, then under your other fingers and thumb, around the base of your ponytail (under ALL fingers now) until you run out of hair.
Take the other half of your hair in your free hand, and wrap that OVER your THUMB. You should be wrapping this half the opposite way you wrapped the first half.
Wrap the second half of your hair under all of your fingers (after it went over your thumb once) until you run out of hair.
Get your stick or fork, and insert it along your index finger until it hits your scalp.
Take your stick/fork, and gently lay it towards your scalp so that you can push it under the base of the bun towards your thumb-loop. This is the position it should be in when the bun is finished, if my instructions aren't clear XD
Push in your stick/fork, and try to get some scalp hair, under the base of the bun and out where your thumb is.
The end!
I will say that sometimes I don't get scalp hair, and it's fine! You've gotta experiment a little bit to get what feels nice for you and what works.
Thank you so much for the instructions, Corvana!
I appreciate that very much :blossom:
I just tried the disc bun, while taking a bath and sitting in my bath tube, and I managed to do it. In dirty hair anyway. It's so nice to be able to do something new and different. I can now do the seashell bun too, and my husband said it looks like a pug tail... That has to be a good thing because we both adore pugs.
You're quite welcome! I believe somewhere around here there's a thread with text instructions for a lot of styles. I'm sure I've seen it :hmm:
I haven't gotten the seashell bun at all, so you've got me there! And pug tails are adorable, so it's clearly a good thing.
