Sometimes I feel like my hair is too thick for my own good (6.5 ponytail circumference) and could deal with a little less to deal with :p.

I totally get it, and besides they are really beautiful, long and loose like that.

And they are a committment.. I think with my hair I would have to cut them out if I wanted to do something different, so that is the main reason I chickened out... I would think my hair would rip and get shreaded if I wanted to take them apart. Oh well... I don't have to think about this for several years now...LOL!
Likelikepenny, I see so many youtube videos with women of color and 4 spirals- I love 4 spirals!! It seems that Shea Moisture Curling soufle or custard is perfect for your hair. Have you tried this brand/product yet? I love this girl's attitude!!

This is also one of my curly girl 3/4 gurus:

I wonder if dreads give you a headache or cause hair fallout/increased shedding due to the tension?

There's lots of videos for type 4 hair, but no one with hair past APL in it's curly state. Everyone measures stretched. I measured stretched for awhile and reached waist, but my hair shrinks up to shoulder when curly so I'm on a journey to grow it to hip curly.
I love that video! I'm all for volume, but because of my weird layers, my hair frizzes out in all types of weird directions.
Teri makes me want long hair now lol.

So this girl is my hair twin and her hair is at APL curly and dry. I'm really excited that my hair will look like this in a few months.

Oooooh man! So I got my sleep cap yesterday, and used it last night. And hot dog could I see why it's recommended!! Usually when I wake up my hair is I guess rough? The canopy is tangly, so if I run my hand over it it feels sort of rought. Not this morning, though!! It spent all night slippin and slidin and having a good time and I had barely a tangle, and the ones I did have were probably from the day before (I had a migraine, and I never comb my hair when I have a migraine because it's so so painful).
I can't wait to see how it is when my hair is freshly washed and combed. That's when it gets the most tangly overnight.

Silk/Satin sleep caps really do make a world of difference.

Well, I'd gladly take an inch of that! I've got about 3.75" circumference, and while that's thicker (I think) than it used to be, it's still not as thick as I want it to be XD
