I think the extra length made the tangling worse... alot worse... so frustrating!!! If I made a bun with my hair, the halo broken hairs stuck out all over... I almost cried in the shower when I was detangling... finger detangling didn't work any more as it was too much hair, like a thick blanket that went down to my tush!!! And it just matted and tangled horribly. I think that at that length, detangling should only be done out of the shower so it can be done very slowly and gently. We have had a water shortage/drought where I live in California, and had to take fast showers, hence quick detangling... or a huge water bill! This did not help solve the breakage problem as I could not really take my time during detangling for fear of a huge water bill. The perfect storm for halo breakage..... Oh well! I am starting over. This short length is so much easier to detangle!!! Grow on my curly LHC friends! :o
lol you just convinced me never to even fathom going beyond hips... which is really fine with me, and between the shrinkage and my micro-trimming I would anyway get there only by 2050 so...

Now detangling takes me about ten or fifteen minutes and my hair is moisturized from the water and conditioner. It's killing two birds with one stone because I just put it up when damp/dry and I don't have to deal with it for the next two days.
I am thinking of doing the same now that it's summer, co-wash every second day or third, detangle (which takes me less than you also because I have 1/3 of your hair) then put some little gel, done.

You might have a better experience with detangling at the longer lengths than I did. My hair is very fine and stupid...LOL.. it breaks very easily during detangling and can be very frustrating. Hope my hair doesn't feel insulted for saying that! LOL!! LOL...2050... that is how I am feeling now that I have to regrow my length back!! Hair growth does seem to take forever!!! :knit::taz:
Congrats irisa2005!!

I have no idea how I'll detangle when I get that long. Even now, I notice my detangling is more intense because it tangles more with length. I think by that point, I'd do a very light finger detangle and then use a paddle brush every other day.

Sadly, my phone died a couple weeks ago and I lost all the hairgrowth monthly pictures I took and can't show up the progress :wail:
LHC had help me a lot, and being here this last 5 months had been very rewarding, I think my hair has never been so loved like this year so far :D
My hair and I are thankful for all your help! and we are very excited to move to the next milestone :cheer:
Congratulations! :cheer:

 Part of me wants to grow my curly hair to classic, but then I think of the amount of detangling and product and then quickly reconsider stopping at BSL or waist.

I definitely recommend giving it a try. For me, this is benign neglect at its finest.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
likelikepenny... Don't worry!! Actually, as your hair gets longer, you can just gently finger detangle it and then let it dry in a lwb. Wet hair is very fragile.. If you are leaving it curly, there are so many here who use the LOC method for curls, but the secret is to find a leave in conditioner that your hair likes. They all make my hair feel glued together but I think diluting the leave in's might also be a solution that I need to try out so it thins out the cream. Good luck to us!! :)

Do you have low porosity an/or build up prone hair? I find it hard to find a conditioner that moisturizes my hair that's heavy enough to tame my courseness but light enough that my hair doesn't get a lot of build up.

From your siggy pic, I think your hair looks great!! Whatever you are doing your spiral curls are cascading so pretty! I belong to Costco and use the generic form of Pureology.... have used this for years. It's called Kirkland Shampoo and Conditioner. My hair loves this and I use the shampoo super diluted and the conditoner full strength, but I try to rinse it all out... and don't use any leave in conditioners. Could that be the problem for you -- a build up from leave in conditioners?

Thank you :).
I'm having a battle with cones lately. My ends are very old and they need cones so I can not trim and gain more length. My length also likes them because it makes my course hair softer, however it dulls my natural shine and as a curly, shine is super important to me. I've been using the garnier fructis serum on ends only and that's cut down on buildup.
I've also been using the Tresseme Perfectly undone conditioner (cone free) diluted as my conditioner and then I just leave it on without rinsing it out. It works well, but I have to clarify every three-four weeks because it builds up often. I find ACV, which I use as shampoo/sealing, helps with this, but I still need to use a sulfate shampoo.
My eco styler gel also does this, but I also attribute this to the protein in it as course hair doesn't really take too well to protein. The only gel I've used that gave me amazing results without buildup was flaxseed, but it's such a pain to make. I wonder if I do the soaking method if it'll be easier?

Be careful with the GFructis..all of their products frizz and dry my hairout. Also, since my hair is short, I decided to not use serums to see what would happen... and it feels so much better. The serum will build up and dry out your hair. I think that using the serums (I used John Freida) actually dried outmy hair worse and caused the tangling to get worse.... Might want to just clarify, use a wash out thick coney conditioner, but then don't leave it in.... wash that out completely after finger detangling with the cond in the shower. You might have a buildup of cones/serums...
Also,..seriously... the eco styler gel you are using.. does it have petrolatum in it? That will also dry out your hair horribly if it does!! I would give your hair/ends a break and don't use any leave ins for a bit and let your hairr dry in a bun. Just maybe a drop of evoo. Good luck! You do know your hair better than anyone, but if you are still experiencing dryness, I would take a break from the GF and the ecostyler. Good luck!

I haven't had a problem with GF serum yet, but I'm very cautious and only use it to seal in moisture. My hair likes castor oil, so maybe I'll try going cone free again and using that to seal my hair.
The Eco styler is definitely a problem, I'm just too lazy to make flaxseed gel but it's something I need to do. I use eco styler argan and it doesn't contain petrolatum but it does make my hair dry and coated.
Looks like I'm in for another round of experimenting with my routine.
