LOL!! Yes! Great idea!! I think the iii thickness is the problem... :( but here our our hairtwin Sutherland sisters::thudpile::crush:

I can't detangle with a comb at all or my hair breaks. Finger detangling with conditioner and making sure my hair is properly moisturized cuts down on a lot of tangles.
However, I see that you have fine hair which could make a big difference on what your hair can tolerate.
I have about 5" to go until I reach APL, I'm thinking of trying catnip again and getting another henna application. Right now I'm washing my hair once a week max with a Lush stout shampoo after using oil (coconut, amla and/or castor) on my ends throughout the week then on wash day I put it all over my hair and leave it like that all day until I wash in the evening. I've also started to S&D (I wish hairdressers did this, or there were services for S&D :'))
Yeah I had googled them already! amazing, and so combed...
I must say I should probably check again on my thickness, after a major shed of last autumn. Which I think was caused by my experimenting with weekly dry detangling with oil, pre-shampoo: pull once, pull twice....
Definitely, as likelikepenny said, finger combing is a good thing, especially when it comes to corkscrews. The linear comb will easily make a knot of a perfectly legitimate corkscrew. I also have the impression that detangling every day instead of waiting for washday (which for me is weekly) could be another good idea. I plan to experiment in the future with detangling sprays to use when I dry detangle intra-wash, try to find a good one. I bought a random one (Timotei) but it didn't work at all.
Another poster here who has 2c-3a hair at hips (trying to remember her handle) said she rinses the hair with water and conditioner under ears every second day, expressly to detangle. I tried doing that and it didn't work well but I was also in a hurry, so I will give it a second try some day.
For now, not even at APL, doing WCC (not even with silicones) seems to make the knots resolve themselves more easily. Also, as I noticed, I had always detangled as soon as I applied the conditioner, while it works much better to leave the conditioner on a few minutes and then begin to finger comb.
All of this. I "wash" (no shampoo) my hair every other day and it cuts down on tangles so much. I use to finger detangle dry and it literally took me five hours (very thick hair and only detangled once a week) and had major breakage. I came up with a new system.
Now detangling takes me about ten or fifteen minutes and my hair is moisturized from the water and conditioner. It's killing two birds with one stone because I just put it up when damp/dry and I don't have to deal with it for the next two days.
@ likelike Penny and Ghanima, I really didn't have any major detangling problems at apl or even through bsl... it was after my hair grew to hip and beyond that the detangling breakage started to become a problem resulting in alot of breakage, especially on the halo outside layer of my hair. I think the extra length made the tangling worse... alot worse... so frustrating!!! If I made a bun with my hair, the halo broken hairs stuck out all over... I almost cried in the shower when I was detangling... finger detangling didn't work any more as it was too much hair, like a thick blanket that went down to my tush!!! And it just matted and tangled horribly. I think that at that length, detangling should only be done out of the shower so it can be done very slowly and gently. We have had a water shortage/drought where I live in California, and had to take fast showers, hence quick detangling... or a huge water bill! This did not help solve the breakage problem as I could not really take my time during detangling for fear of a huge water bill. The perfect storm for halo breakage..... Oh well! I am starting over. This short length is so much easier to detangle!!! Grow on my curly LHC friends! :o
Hello guys! My hair just got to APL, I've been growing it since January :happydance:
Sadly, my phone died a couple weeks ago and I lost all the hairgrowth monthly pictures I took and can't show up the progress :wail:
LHC had help me a lot, and being here this last 5 months had been very rewarding, I think my hair has never been so loved like this year so far :D
My hair and I are thankful for all your help! and we are very excited to move to the next milestone :cheer:
irisa2005, congratulations!
