It works okay, I have put a bucket out in the open so I don't get nasty roof water, then ran it through a coffee filter. I kept extra in the fridge for about a week, even froze some ice cubes LOL. But here it doesn't downpour all that much so I am using filtered/ distilled. I have heard a shower filter is great/ easier, but have not tried that yet. I think that I remembered that there is something the shower head filter doesn't catch though, was it chlorine? Can't remember.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
No, shower filters mainly filter out the chlorine. I'm not sure what it could be that they don't get.

Do they filter out the other harder minerals from the water? I need to read up on them.

I think it depends on the model. Mine mainly does chlorine, but for the water we have that's enough to make it much much softer.
ETA: GTS is going to hold the canary wood fork for me!!! Kimi is so awesome, I'm soooooooo super excited about it!

OOooooh, congratulations! I have a canary wood coming too! I haven't heard anyone much talking about that type of wood and I wondered if anyone else thought canary wood was pretty.
And,regarding that Mezzo Walnut Grahtoe I got off swap that you were lamenting that you missed, I was looking in past swap posts two pages back, and saw that the seller had listed it previously with a bunch of other items, and you had commented on another item in the listing. You must have just missed it! I feel very lucky no one snagged it before, and maybe it was meant for me.

Really!? I know she listed those gorgeous pins, I was probably too caught up with those... Another example of "OK, fine, I'll suck it up and buy this..." and then going to buy it and it's gone
Eh, with my hair color the walnust would probably just blend and get lost anyway. I love canary wood, plus the one I'm getting has some gorgeous graining and a super cool knot at the top. I can't wait!

I saw that one, it's great. I am worried about the walnut blending in with my hair too, but it was too awesome to resist. I have that and, let me see, four more GTS items coming. Yay!
I hope you enjoy yours!

I try to lean towards very dark or light wood because I don't want anything to blend in to my hair either. My Holly sticks show up very well. :) Congrats on both of your stuff you have incoming, I can't wait to see pics.

I'm right with you. I just live day to day with sunglasses holding it out of my face and the occasional hair tie if I'm driving and need to use the sunglasses. -- Only my bangs are the chin length hair.

I got my canary wood GTS in! The wood is so much nicer than I thought, honey color and almost iridescent. Not really yellow at all, and I am glad. Did you get yours yet, Bunnysaur?

I want a picture!!!
No, Kimi's just going to hold mine until I get my paycheck and can pay for the rest. So I'll probably get it in a couple weeks.

Ok, charging camera battery right now.
The tines are a bit longer than my applewood GTS I got off swap. It must be a bigger size. I can't find the listing off Artfire, as I didn't create an artfire account, and the purchase was kind of spur of the moment.
LOL I just fell on my butt while trying to ride my son's scooter (stupid!) and my first thought was "don't hurt the Grah-toe!" I almost banged my noggin on the ground! Geez. Wouldn't that have been GREAT!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Over the weekend I did a Keratin treatment and then hennaed my hair. So, now here I am walking around with that colour ... the really bright I just hennaed colour. On me that is so not a good colour; I can't wait for this to darken. And when?! When will I reach saturation?! I have been putting henna on my head for a year, and it is still not at saturation. Crazy.
Can't wait to see photos of all the lovely new hair toys you all have been talking about. :)

What's your method and how long do you leave it on? Have you thought about adding a tiny bit of indigo/amla/buxus to tone it down?

I was going to oil my hair tonight and leave it in until tomorrow, but it's just too hot! :p:shake:
On the other hand, could anyone suggest a type of hair toy that would work on slippery hair? My length doesn't help but right now the only things that hold are ponytails and braids (for a while anyway)

I bet some others on here could tell ya! Someone might advise about maybe acrylic sticks, or metal pins like Quattro Starlites. Me, so far, with wet or oily hair, I just use a dollar store claw clip with a peacock twist. This works great when I need to wash and it's a greasy day. The flexi 8 site has good styling videos on different types of twists that I have do do right now because my hair's not long enough for a bun. The twists I do are the peacock, or "tails up" and another one that's easy called the up and down. These work great for hair that needs to wait another day to wash.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have super slippery hair and hair-zing/EZ-comb type things work really well for me. I can even stretch them over buns.

I mix my henna with tea, let it dye release, plop it on my head, wrap, leave it for a minimum of 5 hours (usually overnight). I am too terrified of indigo to go that route. And, as I do like the colour after the first week, it's ok. It is just that really fresh henna colour that is kinda... yikes! on me.
Guess I was just complaining cause I don't like the first two-three days of a henna dye. After that, I like it. Love it really.
Someone commented on slippery hair. Ugh, I know that one. Too well, you have my sympathies. :)

Ahh, pre-oxidation henna, how orange you are.

Here's the picture of the Canary wood, Bunnysaur! Cruddy lighting. Is that why everyone takes photos in the bathroom?

Ooh, it's pretty!!! My entire house has crappy lighting, I'm probably going to have to take pics outside or wait until I move in the fall if I want any good ones :p

Congratulations on being at APL (or really really close)! :)
I measured my hair the other day and I grew half an inch in a month. Right on target for average.
I don't think these GNC Hair, Skin & Nails vitamins are making much of a difference. I've generally been taking only one per day, though.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi everyone. Question for all of you. How many inches is APL on you?
I'm feeling like it's taking forever for me to hit a solid APL cause my neck and collarbone area are sooo long. UGH. My hair is 22.5 inches long right now and I don't think I will feel like a solid APL until 24 inches. Then Solid BSL is only 2 inches away from that at 26 inches. Anyone else have this same long neck issue? I see some people hitting APL at 20-21 inches, I wish that was me!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I don't have a long neck or anything but solid APL on me is 23-24 inches I'd say.

Short APL has it's own challenge, mainly "I'm nearly APL, why can't I do any hairstyles".

This is my hair. I'm pretty well APL, at least in the back, but still have trouble doing a lot of styles because my APL is only about 21-22 inches and I have a lot of layers and angled cut on the sides, much of which is still only shoulder or less in length.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It's hard to estimate as I'm only at 18" at the moment but it looks APL is probably about 23-24" on me too. I'm tall with a long neck which definitely doesn't help. After that it's bra strap at about 27" which will be a bit easier going!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've stopped bothering with actual numbers, I can never get anything consistent

Same here, I've tried measuring my growth, but it seems that it differs too much according to my waves at that moment...
I'll just see where I end up each month at TTT.
And I'm also one of these cases of APL and no hairstyles possible, it's been in a messy bun for about a week now. Let's call it benign neglect due to too busy at work :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am another who has passed on the numbers. It seems to change no matter how hard I try to do it exactly the same.
I will continue to just use my very vague "this is where it feels and looks to be" measure.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair grows SO SLOW. I'm kind of dreading the next TTT because it will be the first time I've actually measures it's slow progress. :p

I don't care to measure either, just care where it falls on my body. Too much trouble and too hard.
I can't do any hairstyles really either, but I have had luck with one easy do that I can stick a fork in. It's the up & down french twist, that I learned off the styling vids off the flexi-8 site:
http://www.flexi8.com/sizing-and-sty...ml?id=bmWhdFUF
So I can do this with a stick or a fork in the top. I have to be happy with this for now.
I try a smaller sock bun and I have work this with my GTS forks, too.
Gotta wait, no choice.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Oh and Firegypsy does a Pha bun for her fork. It looked great on the GTS thread.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I managed to get my hair to stay up with two sticks today! I don't think it really counts as a bun and the sticks are a bit long at the moment but it's very secure and fun to do something different :D I've ordered some 5" sticks from Etsy which should work well for this "do".
