Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I would like to join in on this thread.
When I first started growing out my hair after a pretty major chop, I was a little obsessive about photographing and measuring my hair. So much so that it was difficult for me to actually see any obvious changes in my length. After a month or two of benign neglect, the day of visible changes has come! I am sorry for the low quality cell phone shots...also, please note that none of the photos reflect my natural texture. The first photo is with damp hair and the last two are after being blow dried but not flat ironed.
From left to right: August(end of month), October (beginning of month) and December (beginning).
Onward to APL! I feel like I'll be there before I know it. It's nice that I've finally reached the length where my hair feels like it "lays down" better and I can even push (most of) it to one side, over my shoulder. The thickness is improving too. SO excited right now.

I'm back and I'm about at collarbone length right now! So I'm just below shoulder length, getting toward APL! I have very fine hair on the thinner side of average. I use CO only (Suave conditioners) and it's great because it prevents the tangles that fine hair is so famous for AND prevents static in the winter and makes my hair super soft. Love it. I do use heat on it occasionally in the form of either curling iron or flat iron. But I try not to blow dry it hardly ever. Aside from that, no muss, no fuss. I love that it's long enough to do all kinds of things -- braids, ponytails, buns, etc.
congratulations! :cheer:
I remember joining TLHC and deeply coveting this thread. It just seemed impossible to have hair to my shoulders.
Very good job! and happy growing. :hollie:

Happy growing! I love the ability to 'fiddle' with my hair and do all sorts of up-dos, even though at the moment I haven't got much time for them. I just try and vary the ones I do put in every week, so I don't get breakage in the same places. Have you found spin pins yet? They're amazing!

This is my thread lol. I have a horrible butchered cut with layers as short as my ears but a small portion of my hair brushes my collarbone when its brushed straight so here I am :) one day I will fix this mullet thing and never again will I let a hair dresser near my head. I'm asking for awesome hair cutting scissors this christmas so i can slowly even out the huge difference and thicken the hemline back up
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm about two months into growing out a similar cut. Mine seems to be thickening up and growing out pretty quickly, I hope yours does too!

Blace your hair is so sleek, congrats on the progress you've made!
I'm sooooooooo freaking close to APL it's killing me. I set this goal in early February after chopping 4 inches. This is the stage I hate the most and at which I've always cut in the past. Right now it's flat and straightish and weird since I clarified and then sped up drying with two turbie twists (wait till one is sopping wet and then put the dry one on for 10 more minutes). I can't wait to reach APL, I have about 1" to go.

I've never taken progress pics, I'm thankful to have a use for this ill-fitting shirt my mom gave me. I'm hoping that keeping a visual record of my growth (and finally coming out of lurkdom) will help me stay focused in getting to BSL, which I haven't seen in over 25 years.
ETA: Those are not big white dots on the ends of my hair, they are big white dots on my bathroom mirror! ewweee, sorry. (there are also some henna stains on the walls)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks Durgidog! The further (and farther) I go along, the sleeker it's been behaving, even when I wear my natural 2b-ish texture. Maybe it's all the virgin new growth? I haven't done any dying since April.
You'll be at APL before you know it. It looks like you're maybe an inch away. Are you planning on wearing that shirt for all of your progress shots? I've seen other members do the same but I myself always forget when that time of the month rolls around.

Yes, I plan to keep the shirt just for progress shots - it was in the Goodwill pile! Seems like a great idea to use a striped garment, as long as I can remember to keep my head level!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have really exciting news!!! My hair is nearly pin-straight tonight, and it was time to take my monthly hair progress pictures...
I decided to measure my hair. The last time I did was a week ago and it came to 20.5''.
Tonight it came to 21'' and I checked multiple times. Either I measured wrong a week ago, or my hair grew half an inch in a week.
BUT EITHER WAY- I measured November first and got 20'' exactly, even pulled straight gently. That means my hair grew an inch in a month.
This is really exciting because my hair grows 1/2 an inch a month usually. I envy the people that get an inch a month regularly... :P
I've been testing the "inversion method" because I figured, hey, I have nothing to lose. I wonder if that has to do with it?? :D I'm still skeptical... :p
That means I'm only 2'' from APL :D I'm noticeably close to APL in pictures, too. If I pull my hair as straight as I can, it just barely brushes APL in front.
When I let down my hair in Japanese class yesterday Sensei was like "wow, 'Emily' your hair is getting long" :o She's had me for the last 3 years so she's seen me through all of my "hair phases", lol.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Congratulations, Emily!
I'm at collarbone length right now... my hair goes from slightly wavy to bone straight, (depending on when it was washed). I think by January I'll hit shoulder length. Can't wait!
