It looks to me that yours is slightly darker than mine, more lightbrown than darkblonde... But then again, I never knew at what point you go from dark blonde to light brown...
I could never figure that out either...I guess Then I can say that I'm a cool-toned blondette :cheese:

Well, henndigo gloss or not, your hair color is lovely, Georgies! And I totally believed that it was natural! :)
I could never really figure out what hair color I have, and never, ever, thought that I would have ash or cool tones. But, in honor of this thread, I popped by the local MAC counter after work today (MAC opened in Finland about a year ago...yes!!) and had them "type" me. The lady informed me that I could wear both warm or cool toned foundations, since I have hints of both, but we ended up going with the cool one since it looks better! I was in shock! But totally happy, since now I look better :cheese: Now I just have to figure out what to do with the hair color... :D

Here is my new hemline, what do you think?

wow, really good hemline and a lovely colour!
In answer to the trim or no trim question, my take on it is that I'll only trim if I see split ends. None so far. Maybe because I wear my hair up nearly all the time. but it is a miracle, because my hair was heavily bleached until recently.

I am only so-so at being able to do skin tones. Good thing you went to MAC :D. BTW have you tried their Mineralize Skin Finish Natural? That stuff is amazing. I used to be such an anti-Mac snob but this product has me repenting. I get so many compliments on my "gorgeous skin" now LOL.

From the pic you posted I would say you are a cool toned brunette which is what I would be if my face could handle it. Love that color because it is so sophisticated and unique-- and very hard to achieve without a very pro colorist.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I did a sneaky midmonth towel test this morning ;) , and I think I am definitely APL at this point.
Been thinking about it, and this is a great thread since there has been some life kicked into it, so rather than growing further, I decided to plan a very small trim within the next weeks, whenever I can plan it in my schedule.
I will probably have some extra layers cut in as well, in an effort to revive my waves.
That way I can stay with you guys a little longer , and I get my ends in better shape, so I can grow to APL and longer again with healthy hair.

Mineral tends to break me out :( But I got the Longwear Pro, and so far I have to say that it's amazing :D

Those are both fabulous reasons to stay here! Healthier hair at APL and fun in the Shoulder to APL thread!! :cheese:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I had my hair up in a "bun" today. It isn't really a bun, but it is all up and tidy and held with sticks. When I took my hair down... I had bun curls! OMG! Bun curls! Well, ok, only half my hair did, but still.... so awesome!

That's too bad about the MSFN but I'm happy you have a foundation you like. Mac does make some amazing foundations. Also glad you're considering keeping your natural color. I love love love cool toned brunette hair.

I can now put my hair up in a wimpy mini ponytail! It was so exciting when I did it today :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair looked fabulous today, I just thought I'd mention it. After my treatment on Tuesday it was soft but looked a little dirtier, even after I just rinsed it out. However, one CO later, GREAT hair day. :cheese:
AND, I got a compliment! I saw an old friend today and one of the first things she said was "You are growing your hair!!" It's nice when people actually notice you are growing your hair. She also said it looked great. She's awesome. She knew me when I had waist length hair, and when I cut it to a pixie, so she knows I have had it long before!

I love it when people notice! And don't good hair days feel excellent!? I had one today too...it was so soft and shiny and looks fantastic. :D
ETA: I'm fairly positive my hair is at APL now, but I'm waiting til Tuesday to measure since that's when I take my monthly photos. So we'll see if I'm sticking around for another month or if I get to graduate soon.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I looove hair compliments! Or the days your hair just falls perfectly (: I'm in a D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E attempt to get to APL by mid or late june. I don't know if here's the place to ask it, but I've been taking vitamins for like the last 20 days or so, and have been noticing hair growth. But I was wondering if I'm taking the right vitamins and if I'm taking too little/much of them? This is what I've been taking (percentage baised of daily value):
-140% vitamin A
-5-10 mg biotin
-200% Vitamin C
-200% vitamin E
-200% each of Vitamin B1,B2,Niacin,Folic Acid,B12
-4 mg silica
-100% iron
-162 mg calcium
I take this on a DAILY basis. Most of the vitamins are from a multivitamin I take (besides the biotin and flaxseed). I also do daily 5-10 min scalp massages, and the whole sha-bang of keeping my hair healthy!(: So am I totally OD-ing on vitamins, or is this healthy for hair growth?
THANKS!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Here I am! Mine is about tad longer. I"m also trying no trims 2012. Just thought I'd drop in!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Welcome kittengirl!
JuicyBabe, I'd say talk to your doctor about the vitamins. To me, that's a high dose of biotin, though a number of people here take that amount. Watch out for side effects! Some people have reported headaches and acne. There are some biotin threads in the archive.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm calling APL officially. I've been waiting for 50% of my layered hair - when dry - to be below the APL mark, and I just checked and I'm there! You can see a shot in my profile thaT I took yesterday, although the APL line isn't marked.
I do plan on getting a trim in the next couple of weeks, so I may end up back here if my stylist screws it up! Crossing my fingers he won't!

HumanBean- Congrats on hitting APL even with layers!

I currently take about 5mg a day, sometimes I forget if I took it and probably end up taking 10 :o I think you should definitely talk to your doctor about it, because that's A LOT of B's you're taking.
While my hair has definitely grown since starting to take biotin, I think that daily scalp massages and adding some oils to my shampoo has helped more.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'll def check with the Doc. next time I go in! I actually take 2 biotin pills a day (each 5mg), so I think I'll cut back to one a day. I have been doing scalp massages too! Works great, doesn't it?(:
BTW; I have a very small apitite, AND I'm a dedicated vegitarian..so I guess maybe it's okay since I don't really get all my vitamins from the food I eat...But still gonna' check with my Doctor! thanks guys.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
OMG friends, a HUGE RAVE for Roux Porosity Control shampoo and Ion Extreme Moisture Creme!
I dyed my hair today and had to refresh the color on my length as well. Well when I went to rinse out the dye my hair was like straw and I couldn't get my fingers thru it-- so scary! Anyway, I used RPC and it made an enormous difference. I was able to get my fingers thru my hair and it didn't feel as rough. I shampooed with it twice to make sure all the dye residue was out then made a mix of molasses and Ion Extreme Moisture Creme which I put in my towel dried hair and left for 30 min. I rinsed it out, put in a some avocado oil and now my hair feels like silk. Can't believe what a difference these two products made in my hair. Simply astonishing!
Anyone else have a miracle product tale they want to share?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
JaimeH, your hair is going to be long again quite soon!
Battles, I wish I was long enough to try that, I think it looks cool as is too.
I'm a few inches from APL but I still have so much permanent black in my hair :(.

You could probably try it now, or pretty soon if it doesn't work yet. My hair isn't quite APL yet and it felt like it was slightly difficult to wrap it around the headband at some points.
And I know how you feel about the permanent dye. I'm trying to grow out henna now too.. :o

I don't have one of those thin headbands unfortunately, or even a normal one that doesn't feel like it's cutting into my head :o.
How did the curls turn out for you?
Ah, thank you for telling me, it makes me feel less alone haha, everybody seems to grow out a colour lighter than their own, which seems much easier..
What colour is your natural hair?

The sections I took were a little uneven, so they were all sproingy in the front and heavier, a little saggy and still damp in the back. I'll give it another try at some point and leave them in all day since I doubt they'd survive the night with how much I toss and turn. :P
Definitely not alone! My henna is auburn that I've lightened a little bit with color oops, my natural color is sort of medium ash brown. How much do you have left to grow out?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have a miracle product to share: Neelibhringadi Oil. There is another thread on this oil but I thought I would share anyway.
I have used it a total of three times, pre shampoo. I just rinsed my hair now- I didn't wash it, but I did an SMT on my protein-ey ends post henndigo on the weekend. While rinsing, I didn't lose a single strand in the drain, usually just from rinsing I would lose at least 50-100. There has been significantly less hair in my tangle teezer, too :joy: :cheese: Awesome

I have not experienced any darkening, and there is at least one blonde that is using it and updated that thread with her experience. No one has yet reported any darkening, but you could probably ask her directly.

There are so many things to try!! I'm doing my best not to try everything at once, and it's sooooooo hard!!
So I'm living vicariously through you guys-I demand frequent updates on all of this fun stuff, please, so that way in about a month I can try something else too! :cheese:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I know it's not Towel Thursday, but I don't very often have the opportunity to have someone take a "glamor shot" - DH basically thinks I've completely lost my mind on this hair obsession - so I'll just bend the rules a little and throw mine out in between. :o
I was suprised to see how long my hair has actually gotten but I'm afraid there's also still quite some way to go . I will have to admit that I quite like my layers and - at least for now - I'm definitely going for length as opposed to an even hemline :D
