Gwen and Theodora, congratulations !! :cheer: :joy: Hang around as long as you want, you're right, this is an awesome bunch! :grouphug:
Thought I'd put a pic of my APLish hair (even looks APLish from the front with layers and all!)

Figure I'll stay on this thread for a little bit before graduating, when I joined here in May I was already at 21 inches, so was only just a mere 3-4 inches to APL.
Wow Theodora you have gorgeous eyes!
Thanks a lot Mrs coffee! I'm blushing now :o:o:o:o
Yippee! :cheese:
Honestly, I thought it would take me forever to get to APL. It felt like my hair was growing SO SLOWLY, and I was getting so frustrated. But looking at my photo albums, I've noticed so much growth since I dyed my hair back to its original colour on May 25th of this year.
...Funny how you don't notice any growth until you look back at all of your progress photo's. Makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy.
I know this is a 'shoulder to APL' thread, but how long did it take others on here to get to BSL?
Gwen
theodora, it looks like you've been getting great growth! :cheese:
Thanks a lot guys! I've been trying to figure out my growth rate, helped by dbf yestersay, and we figured since I cut my hair into a bob with a blunt fringe beginning of March at 17.5 inches long, and I've reached 24 at the beginning of July, that gives me 6.5 inches in 4 months, an average of over 1 1/2 inches a month.
Which I know sounds completely mental, but you have to know this is my prime growth period of the year from spring to end of summer. I tend to grow exponentially as it gets hotter and sunnier and usually grow the most in the year when I go on holiday (which I am not doing this summer incidentally). So I am aiming to make the most I can out of my annual growth spurt before I hit my growth stall in about september/october.
I've just received my delivery from spicesofindia (awesome website, totally recommend it for both cooking and hair stuff), so I now have some new supplies of coconut oil, castor oil (finally! it was so hard to find), rose water and an assortment of lovely indian herbs supposed to help with growth/reduce shedding/lots of loveliness. Will let you know how that goes!
WOW theodora!! That's truly awesome growth, and it's looking so nice! Congrats! :D
Congratulations Gwen and Theodora! You've finally reached the end of an awful milestone :p
Congrats Gwen and Theodora looks like you both had some great growth!!
This is the thread for me! I'm in that awful in between stage where I can't do a bun unless I fake it with a sock bun. It's annoying when you're at flip length because yes, when it's on your shoulders it really does flip - not exactly the look I am going for! I am dying for it to get to APL. Hopefully by December! I'd like to be able to use my hair forks from Etsy again. I am babying it to death (well except for the crimp day!!) and the hemline looks great. I hope I can keep it that way.
We're in exactly the same place. Good luck!
I've got the summertime growth spurt happening, YAY! I gained 3/4 inch in 3 weeks, so I am thrilled. That castor oil concoction sounds nice, and I think I'll give it a try. I use camellia oil on my length regularly, and the occasional coconut oil on the ends. I also use Nightblooming's Panacea salve, the stuff is yummy beyond belief. Leaves my hair feeling silky and smells divine. My hubby loves it when I use it right before bed, then he gets to smell it all night long.
Gwen - it took me about 2 years to go from 16 inches to 29 inches. To gain that 13 inches I also trimmed off quite a bit, trying to get rid of damage. What I would do is to take your average growth rate and extrapolate. Then subtract a bit for trims and that will tell you how long it should take for you. Everyone is different, some people grow very slowly and others get an inch every single month, sometimes more (I totally envy them).
Spitfire- the rooibos tea spray is very intriguing. I'll definitely give it a shot. Thanks for the tip. I'm currently at UBL and I am resisting the urge to cut it to a bob that is all one length. (my layers drive me mental). I think this is going to be the hardest part.
Congrats to everyone who has graduated !! I just had a trim and new layers put in. This puts me back about a couple of weeks in length for the back, and a month for the front, but I'm happy to have nice hair again :)
Congrats to everyone who is moving on! :) I am getting so so so close ... and I have a horrible time taking pics of the back of my head, lol.

Im trying to get there too. I use to be on this site a long time ago, and now im back after years of having my hair adventures lol. My siggy shows my current length. Back in Dec/Jan I had cut it to about chin - which I didnt want, she went overboard, and it was supposed to be shoulder. Anyways it feels like I have been at shoulder forever, it is just now looking like its past my shoulders. Im hoping by december I will be at APL or past it.

New pic, still along way till till apl:(
pixiestar your hair definitely looks like it has grown since your last picture! I know it seems really far away but it should definitely take you maximum 6 months if you're having the average 1/2 inch. And who knows between the castor oil and redbush, things might pick up!
I started using the castor oil mix recipe you gave the link to on pandora's blog, thanks for mentioning it, I think it's really a lovely recipe!
pixiestar - do you have a preferred place to buy the rose water? I haven't seen any in the stores in my area so I am thinking I might have to get it online. The closest thing I found here was witch hazel with rose water and aloe. Not exactly what I need. :/
Pixiestar, that looks half way between SL and APL! Congrats :flower:
Pixiestar the time will fly in! You look only a few months away :)
First post! I'm growing from a little below shoulder length to waist but APL is on the way! This will be my first month measuring length so I'm not sure how fast my hair really grows. Once I know that, I'll know how long I have to go! To push it along, I take prenatal vitamins as well as a biotin supplement. I've been taking those two consistently for about two months now. Good luck!
I think that's great! Can't wait to be where you are in hair growth!!
My hair actually looked okay today in it's naturally wavy/curly state so I left it down for the first time in months! With my shrinkage it was just resting on my shoulders but I enjoyed wearing my hair down as it's something I can't often do.
One side of my hair grew noticeably longer (in the front), so I had to even it out. =( I just snipped that side a little bit, but I liked that it touched my chest when I sat down. (TMI?) :D
I know exactly what you mean! I hadn't been able to wear my hair naturally wavy for years without all the damage showing before I joined LHC. :) And now that it's summertime, I usually put my hair in a cinnabun right out of the shower, to help stay cool at work - and when I take it down, it's usually sticking out all over the place! Every once in a while, just as you said, it looks nice - but usually it's all wonky. But I can't stand to have mine down in this wretched heat anyway, so I'm hoping that by the time summer ends and I can wear it down more, I'll be all kinds of surprised at how long it's gotten! :cheese:
I was at apl when someone recommended me to a stylist. Since I haven't been to one since 2005 I went. and was excited, and my hair was soft and pretty and he flatironed it and it was so bouncy and flowy... then he busted out the scissors and whacked away 5 inches reassuring me that it was damaged... *Sigh* oh well... I am almost at apl again and hopefully i can remember 6 yrs down the line why i do not go to stylists :)
Lianna, I'm sure that is a mini milestone! Chest hitting length ;)
I know CrisDee! I can't wait until our hair is long enough to leave down and have it naturally look nice with the right weight behind the waves.
I was redoing some of the twists around my hairline today. I unravelled one twist in the front and stretched my hair to see how long it was and it's definitely APL. I showed my sis and she was like " uh...yeah, it's a little past that actually." If I straighten it it should hang even longer so I might actually be ready for a grow to bsl challenge. I stretched a few of the twists in the back and they're touching apl without even unravelling them so I might actually be full apl now.
I was expecting to be full APL by the middle of August but it looks like I'm ahead of schedule -woohoo! Makes me wonder if I can make bsl by the end of the year.
I'm not doing a real length check until August 19th so I don't want to get my hopes up but gosh this is exciting!
Just joined this thread because I cut my hair to shoulder. Currently maintaining till the last of the dye then on I go to APL :)
