Hah! :D It's bon-deen-dee-bowl. A nickname I made up for my horse. I was a weird kid.

I had my last trim today! Still at 18inches when wet so still quite some time to go before APL.
Now that my trim is done with I can officially start my year of no hair dye, no heat styling and no trimming. My goals this year are to reach APL and thicken up as these layers get longer. Also to continue to grow out hair dye and go au naturale!
With everything bad I was previously doing to my hair I'm hoping my growth will really take off now.
Hi Ladies :) I'm working toward APL also...hoping to get there by August or September
Hello everyone! my hair is just brushing shoulders but may I join you, please!!! I am in desperate need of inspiration and support!
Thank you! this thread and all of you are such an inspiration for me! I'm going to measure on May 7th, so I'll post my length picture then.
Welcome to the thread!
It's been slow around here and we definitely need more people for support during these "difficult" times :D
I'm going to be doing a measure-in soon, like on June 1st and I'll post pictures too. I think I may have had a bit of a growth spurt. I've been really pampering my hair this past month, slathering on the coconut oil, wearing it up a lot, doing CO washings, and my hair's been sooo soft.
Ugh. I am trying so hard to be patient but it seems like it goes nowhere. I think I'm about half-way to APL but my phone isn't letting me access my online album right now so I can't post a comparison pick. Argh. I guess at least from here on out I'm most of the way there but it just feels like it will end.
Phoepha, welcome to the thread! You're definitely in good company.
Pixiestar, be strong! I'm also abstaining from measuring and it is driving me nuts.
My first shower today after my trim and I feel like I'm back at shoulder instead of an inch or two past. I'm adopting the neglect approach on growth now otherwise I may go insane and chop to a bob.
I kind of love the idea of forced neglect. It's two different ideas, that don't really work together.
Hello everyone, this thread is definitely where I belong, although I hope not for long! I'm about 2-3 inches away from APL, but I've been this length for a year after bleaching, blowfrying and straightening has meant I've had to trim any new growth. Now it's healthy enough to begin growing out!
^ This for sure!!
I was thinking the other day that I'm not sure I've even disliked my hair so much - and really it's in pretty decent shape. After digging and digging I found one split today - on a shed. But it just won't do anything cute :(
Sending us all 'grow faster' thoughts! :)
Hi everyone!
I cannot wait to get to APL! I'm about maybe 3 inches away. I have an unfeasably long head and neck and it feels like it takes so long to get anywhere near APL.
The thing that cheered me up last night is that I went on facebook to see how fast my hair has grown in the past (I've never really paid much attention to that). In January 2007 (end of the month) I had hair that just grazed my shoulders, and in April 2007 (end of the month again), it was at APL. So I'm hoping considering I'm past shoulders right now, I should get to APL in maximum 3 months.
Here's to hoping my hair will grow as fast as it did back then! Yes I was younger (21), but I was also super unhealthy (smoked, partied, ate unhealthy food etc). And my hair had been dyed and bleached several times. (and it somehow looked healthier than it does now, guess that's aging for you....)
Am I ok to post in here for my layers?
I won't post pictures because the length is past BSL but the layers are infuriatingly short, wish I hadn't got them now! arghhhh
I am still waiting patiently for my hair to grow :eye:
My curls seem to be getting stronger as it edges slowly towards APL so it has started to actually look shorter than it was before.
I am hoping that by September I'll be there, stretched. Pretty please
kyandii - you might check out the Growing out Layers thread here : http://www.longhaircommunity.com/for...=47351&page=48
I'd bet there are people who are the same length as you with similar frustrations! (I was once!) :)
(ETA - I don't say that to imply that you're not welcome here!! Of course you are!! :D )
Went in for a trim the other day. Well, more of a dusting. The girl was really good too. I told here what I wanted and she said "Ah! You're growing it out? I'll just take a tiny bit." :) I did have her slice in some face-framing layers to blend my old bangs in a bit. So I'm still at the same length. It just feels like it is taking forever! Ugh!!! I swear, it was like no time from chin to a bit past SL. Now it feels like I've stalled. Maybe I need to add something to my diet to rev things up a tad.
Hotrox, you're a genius! I swear my hair is getting longer--it feels longer, honest!--but by looking at it, it's at the same dam* length! I'm going to blame it on whurl development. I swear it's getting longer, though. Bah! I'm afraid to measure for fear of disappointment--and then grabbing the scizzors.
I do have to say though, this forum really helps keep my urge to "trim" (ahem--CHOP) much lower than it's been in the past. Keeps me goal-oriented. I never would have even gotten this "long" otherwise.
Gave in and asked daughter to measure today, its 17.75 woohoo:D Wonder if its the rooibos tea or the vitamins helping it to grow, or could be just a combination of both I guess:D
I love oxymorons though :)
I'm excited as I'm at a wedding on friday and I'm getting clip-in extensions for it. For one day only I will be past this awful stage!
I think the reason shoulder-length seems to feel like it's not growing at all is because it has a long way to get to bsl. That, and you have trouble putting it into the beautiful buns I see all the long-haired gurus wearing. *Sigh*
I agree Shelley! When I hit shoulder with no layers I could fake a lovely sock bun however now with layers I can't do anything.
As it's so short there's not many updos we can do with our hair so we just have to let it rest and see where it is most days. Or in my case, see how stubby my ponytail looks :p
I have been growing it out from a buzz cut and just finally hit APL but i cut everything back to my shortest layer, which was dead on shoulder so i guess im back here again:p.
I'm barely even shoulder, my hair just rests on my collarbone. I have about 5" to APL :P. But I do have just one length (growing out a bob) and I'm going to try not to get layers cut in even though this length seems like it needs them the most.
I tend to get layers, grow my hair out, think the ends look straggly and cut off the layers only to think my hair looks flat and boring so I cut in layers...... This time, I cut off the layers, and then found this forum three or four days later. Wish I'd found it a few days sooner! Ah, oh well.
I have a few face framing layers, that I tentatively cut in myself so they're not very pronounced, and the rest is one length. Just lately its starting to look long-ish and boring. So I'm with you on that one, I'm putting it up and leaving it hoping that it will sort itself out as it gets longer.
I have 5inches to go too until I reach APL! Hopefully it will come quickly.
Almost there! I think I have less than an inch to go. I'm hoping by this Saturday it is there because I would like to do a big whammy post for my 1.5 year anniversary, first ever 5k, henndigo dye job, and the APL. We'll see if mother nature wishes to comply with this ^_^
Oh I feel you on this one kyandii - I am growing out bangs that I'm just about ready to rip straight out of my head! But you'll get that length soon!
Qadupae - WOW! That'd one heck of a weekend! :D GL with the 5k (and all the rest :) )
I did this, too. I think it is b/c when your hair starts to touch your shoulders, it makes it string up and look straggly. You have to power through the 6 months of awkward and once it is solidly below your shoulders, it looks much better.
I had dh measure again last night and he says I am 1" away from APL, and 4" away from BSL. Yay!
