Thanks, guys! I'm finally at a length that has a name, haha. Good luck to you all!
arghhhh!
i went to the hairdressers and had a trim! my hair is shorter :(
it was what i would class UBL but it is back to shoulder again now! The hairdresser was great though! and to be honest i needed the rest of those damaged ends off! im still a little sad but it had to be done and my hair looks much better now! i have changed my parting to the other side and i like it :) !
oh well! it will grow back and im not having my hair trimmed now EVER!!! I will learn s&D from now on!!!! :D
When I look at my hair from the back, I'm *almost* at BSL... About another inch to go (hopefully by late June\mid July). But when I pull my hair to the front, it falls just an inch past my collar bone! It's very frustrating. I'm assuming you measure your hair based on where it falls on your back, correct?
Between May 2nd and May 12th, my hair grew .3 inches! (That's pretty good growth for me). I think the vitamins and 'good treatment' is finally starting to kick in!
Gwen.
gwen, don't you mean apl?
With apl it greatly depends on what people do with their hands. If they are just limp down or propped somewhere.
You are so cute! And your hair looks so healthy! Thanks for the video, I've heard about the twist cut before and was doing pretty much what you were showing, but it still felt weird because I wasn't completely sure that i was doing it right and I didn't stick with it. But now I'll definitely keep going with this kind of trim, seeing your results! I have a ton of layers to grow out! Thanks again!
Jemoiselle, I just had a look at your vid too. Your hair looks great, so sleek and shiny. I'm curious to give this twist cut a go. Thanks for posting :D
I have made my appointment for my last trim on the 28th May :) my hair will then be free of heat damage and I can officially start my no trimming for a year challenge. I'm so excited! I'm also loving the low maintance of not heat styling my hair anymore and how time consuming it was to make it look nice when all the time I was just damaging it more.
I can't wait to see how much growth I gain from no heat styling and trimming. Hopefully enough to push me to APL by the end of the year.
Yoohoo! Where is everyone? This thread is slow these days.
I've been bummed because it's gonna be FOREVER until my hair is APL. I think I'm looking at September at the earliest. If I'm lucky. I'm hoping to be on the APL to BSL thread come January 2012. Do you gals and guys thinks that's possible?
Mines taking forever as well:( I'm trying to hold off measuring till 27th may. on 27th april I was at 17inches:(. 4 to go to apl. Hoping to get there by xmas:D So might be joining you alyanna in the apl to bsl in january:D fingers crossed.
I have 3.5 inches to go until APL, so hopefully I will also be moving onto the APL-BSL thread at the start of the year :) i'm giving myself 8months on average growth to reach APL, if i'm still not there I think I will cry :p
It's frustrating because I know once I hit APL, I can make Waist in a year.
Rrrrrrrreeeeeeaaaalllly now? APL to waist in a year?! I wish! :eyebrows:
I think I've got 2-3 inches until the longest hairs reach APL, in the back, but I'd like to have a few strands over my shoulders to really feel like APL. If all the strands in the front are still at shoulder it's just not gonna look like APL hair, you know?
After that, I think it'll still be a long way to BSL I think. I'm thinking at least a couple of years to waist!
This thread has been slow lately! I cry :(
Anyway, I think I can officially say that my hair is at 19 inches, and APL is about 21 for me, maybe a little over. I think at the rate my hair has been growing I will hit the very tip of APL by August. My old bangs are just about an inch passed chin, but the rest of the front is just about as long as the back.
I had long hair my entire life until about five years ago when I hacked it all off. I remember i would cut six inches off when it would get too long and crazy, but it would grow back literally in no time. I'm hoping this is the case once I hit APL!
Pixiestar, your hair is so pretty and straight! I'm so jealous! Mine likes to flip all over the place, making it seem like it's growing ever so slowly
Ooo and alyanna I am 5ft3 I think. But my measurements are APL - 21.5inches, BSL - 25inches, Waist - 28inches if my friend measured correctly. (over head and down the back)
I'm hopeful to reach waist in a year from APL, I remember last time I grew my hair after APL it was all quick and smooth sailing so I would be pleased if it did it again especially now there is no hair dye and heat styling involved.
Even if I only got 6inches average growth a year then I'd be pretty close to waist which is good enough for me! I don't start to feel like my hair is long until I can see it hanging over my shoulders.
A couple of years will be here before you know it and it may not even take that long :) power of positive thinking ;)
oh, I see, kitty. you are shorter than I am. Even someone with my hight could make it in a year from apl to waist with a little more than average growth rates per year.
btw: I'm 5ft9
Oooh, good idea. I am at 20" and dh measured BSL to be 24". So much sooner than I thought!!!! January or February!
I seeeee. Well I'm 5ft7. I'm at 19" now and APL is 21", BSL 26" but waist is a whopping 32"!! AND, I measured my BSL with a very well fitting bra (ie the strap sits very low). So I'm actually not doing too bad in terms of shoulder to APL and I do agree that this may be a slower journey than APL to BSL. May cuz the layers and maybe cuz it's almost like going from short to "long" by mainstream standards.
And ooo (I love typing your name) that would be SO exciting to make it from apl to waist in a year! My hair isn't slow to grow so we'll see. Exciting!!!
P.S. I'm thinking of doing a cassia treatment soon. It might make me feel better about my hair. I used to be a henna freak from about 13 years old to 17, I hennad all the time. Never tried cassia though. I don't want red hair this time (at least not yet) but cassia would be fun.
Hair grow grow:(
You know I always thought my hair grew fast, but it seems so slow:( Maybe its just because I want it to hurry up and get to apl. I will feel more like I'm getting somewhere then:)
So I did a bit of backtracking 2 days ago. Lately, my hair has been fighting so badly to do updos of almost any kind. I finally realized it was because of all my layers and the badly wispy ends I had. I decided to do a micro trim, but after that I realized I had to do more. Ended up taking off about 1.5 inches, but my hair is behaving a little better now. Its just so hard to go back like that :( My dreams of hitting BSL by the end of summer are out now, I'd be happy getting past APL by the end of summer now.
Awww, it's okay. Getting to long hair from shoulder is a long journey and we're all gonna backtrack at some point. As long as you're not getting too scissor happy and jeopardizing your progress all the time, I'm sure you're fine. I bet your hair is healthier now?
I should follow my own advice actually because I'm debating whether or not to go the "no trimming" route. I'm gonna try to distract myself with the cassia treatment and with getting my hair oiled and stuff :o
Wow! I must have a long neck or something, because my APL is ~23 inches. It looks like a lot of you gals will get there at 21? Count me as jealous, haha. :) Ah well...maybe the rest will seem faster after this hurdle. I've been trying to avoid the forums so I don't go crazy!
Congrats to you! :cake:
You are most welcome Ma'am! It was my first video, I'm glad I didn't bomb it completely! :D
Very welcome my friend! Thank you for the hair compliment :p I hope you enjoy trying it out and love it as much as I do!
Yeah, we are slow aren't we? But that's good for me because when I am absent without leave, lol, I can come back and look like I've kept up with the best of you! Ha! :D How have you been lately?
Yep, we should start a club:
The "I'm with stupid who had it and chopped it!" Club ------------>" or how about
The "Reaping What I Sow" Club! LOL Only kidding!
Were you happy with it for long after you chopped? My happiness was very short lived, no bun intended.
hi :D
i feel your frustration! i have been getting rid of damaged permed hair for a year and finally last week i had the final damage removed! because of the trims every few months my hair has gone from UBL to shoulder, UBL to shoulder etc etc
but now that my hair feels really healthy im soooo glad i stuck with it! Now i can grow! grow! grow! :D
hang in there hon. You'll get there!! i felt sooo good when the hairdresser said to me last week! 'okay thats all your damage gone and your hair looks really healthy'! :cheese:
I have not been able to wear my hair down in about a year due to horrible, sloppy layers. It will likely be one year more before I am comfortable letting people look at my hair. With it short and thin, it leaves me with very few choices in how to wear it.
To keep myself from doing something I would later regret, I have been doing my best to enjoy what I do have, and working to remedy that which I can't stand. I also found that using my favorite perfumes on my wrists while I do my hair keeps me in a better mood.
I keep reminding myself that I am almost 1/3 done toward my goal.
I can agree that it seems my hair is growing slower than usual now. Funny idea on the Reaping what I Sowed Club. Enter at your own RISC.
YES, this stage is the WORST! These $#^#&* short front bits that slip out of almost every $)(&# style I put them into are driving me CRAZY!! And the layers that sprout out of my ponytail like crabgrass - UGH! I think even crabgrass is more attractive. GGAAACCCKKK!! :justy:
This is definitely the worst stage:( I can't wait to get to Apl:D
Measured today 17.5 inches, 1/2 inch growth since 27th April:D

This is the worst stage. Seems to take forever to get to APL!!!
I did love it! I loved it for the first two and a half years, then I started growing it out (only got to almost shoulder in the front), and cut it again. Then I had this really weird bowl cut for almost a year when I suddenly HAD TO HAVE LONG HAIR! Ever since then I've been dying for it :p
Pixiestar, your hair looks so nice! :D
Mexibeach, you are so insanely close. Almost there!
Heeeeyyyy! How are you Jem? Long time no see :D I'm good. I've been fiddling around with my CO routine, trying to track down some products. I've been hanging around the CO thread a lot, oiling my ends and "neglecting" my hair in an updo. Just washed a couple of hours ago and its feeling preTTy soft and the ends are looking not so bad at all. I love TLHC :p
Hey bondeadendedeebowl :D
Ok everyday i see a post by you and i don't know how to read your name let alone pronounce it. Please help :cheese:
Mexibeach...so close!! Looking good! Your hair looks very healthy!
I've started wearing mine curly, further prolonging my wait until APL! :) the intense humidity was messing up all of my damp-bunning/straightening effort so I decided to give in and rock the curls for a little while. It's so humid and my hair turns into loose curls with some ringlets here and there if I let it go.
Everyone is so close! The suspense is killing me! Hey Alyanna :) Yeah, I've been hitting the coconut oil more often myself for some reason. Ok, maybe not hitting it so much as using it, unless I am having a particularly bad hair day in which case throwing it would be more appropriate. Kidding of course (not in my head!) Someone suggested somewhere to heavily oil the hair then wrap in saran and sleep on it! I am so tempted to try it but hesitate because I'll end up looking like an alien coming to bed and don't want to give DH a heart attack lol. I got two tangle teezers in the mail the other day and have been absolutely loving them, too. That pretty much encompasses my updates; I'm glad this thread is slow! Ahh, yes, and I have been drinking rooibos tea like a mad fool for growth rate. It better work! I'll see here soon when I take my final measure for the month. See ya'll!
I hope I fit in here by the end of summer, or at least Jan 2012 is my goal lol :( good growing everyone :)
