Ah, upper back length (UBL) :D

Alyanna - when I couldn't find my sewing measuring tape (the flexi kind) I used to use a string or ribbon. I'd mark it at the length I wanted, then use a ruler/stiff measure or whatever to measure the marked length on the string. It made me feel like I was getting a little more of an accurate measurement.
It's so interesting how everyone is built so differently! I'm short through the shoulders (I know that sounds weird) but petite blouses actually fit better than normal ones (so long as they are 3/4 or short sleeves!) even though I'm 5'8". But then my waist is low enough that if I try to wear a store bought dress, the waist is up around my lower ribs. Not high enough to be empire waist, not on my waist and NOT cute. :p
I know what you mean Spitfire about different builds!
I'm only 5"2 but seem to have the longest neck in history! People measure the same length as me but are already past APL and I still have an inch to go!
No fair!
Look how close I'm getting :D

Maddy25: Getting closer and closer :)
I recently had to do a major four inch chop due to temporary insanity damage (aka home perm) when I was an inch past APL now im barely shoulder(cries) I'm hoping in founr months to be back to APL
Yeah I know and I always have trouble finding where my armpits start:D The lines would help a lot to see where everything is.
Except now that I look at your picture, I don't know why I feel like APL may be a bit (a lot? :() farther than I thought? I gotta go measure again.
I don't know why yesterday I had this bad feeling before going to bed that I'm never gonna make it to BSL. Maybe I was just tired...
Ok I just tried to take a picture of my own back and it's impossible. Duh! I have no spacial orientation whatsoever...
Hi Ladies, oh my gosh this no mans land between shoulder and APL is killing me! I feel like I'm just not growing :( I have been so sad and regretful since I cut my almost classic length hair last February. I feel like such a fool. Big hugs for all of you who are growing with me! I should take some length shots and re-measure...coming later tonight, ok?
Alyanna, I have felt the exact same way. Like it's just never going to happen! Ugh! We'll hang in there together. Maddy I should take your lead and use the lines!!!
What a good idea. Filling in those lines in a photo.
Love the idea Maddy25 (and totally off subject, yours has always been one of my favorite avatars!)
Here's mine - it's a little wonky and I'm no good at photoshop, :)
The funny thing is that this looks shorter than last month's length shot, even though it measures more than half an inch longer. Although it's pretty poofy and flippy today. :D

My hair is always BS. But I am constantly growing out layers and bangs. I don't know why, but I cut them in, like it for a while, then regret it. It also seems to me that my hair thins when I do.
Jemoiselle, at least you've had classic-length hair before, so you know you have it in you! I on the other hand have never been past APL. It's really weird considering that until about 7 or 8 year ago my hair was curlier and thicker and very unruly. The best thing for it would've been to let it grow longer so the curls and poof would calm down a bit. But for some reason, I just never did it. It never even occurred to me. I come from one of those families where all the women have above shoulder hair and as soon as it's longer, they're like "you need a haircut". They think really long hair is "unkept" and "country". That attitude is so 80s. My mom's had this Jane Fonda haircut forEVER. I detest it. One of the reasons I want long, long hair is because I want the exact opposite of THAT look. Do you know what she did to me when I was 6? She gave me the Orphan Annie haircut. I had this big reddish brown 'fro. I remember to this day being mortified. It was also the same year I got glasses. Not a happy year for me. :D *Rant Over*
But yes, I'm just in love, love, love with the TLHC. Everyone's just been so great. We WILL stick together through this! We WILL make it!
Heh, you have a point there! But part of me still fears that because the main part of my growth happened when I was pregnant nearly 4 years ago, that allowed it to get that long to begin with and I might not be able to regrow to the same length! It was the first time my hair ever went below the bra line so to speak. Never mind that is when I joined LHC I believe, and started making the changes like no heat styling, filing combs, gentle combing, coconut oil (yum for my hair!) etc so truly I shouldn't let my fretting get the best of me. Your family sounds interesting! Jane Fonda hair huh? I'll have to look that one up! :cheese: You are going to have so much fun growing because it will all be uncharted territory! How cool! I'm excited for you :p
I cannot imagine what you must have felt like with that orphan annie haircut! You poor thing! I bet you still made it look adorable though, I always liked her hair because mine was so flat back then. Stick straight! Now it has waves and won't lie flat, as we age in my family our hair gets loose curls and waves and a coarser texture (meh for the texture) so we'll see! Hey rant away anytime!!
I took a length shot yesterday and can't get it uploaded! I am so silly. I am a new Mac user, and cannot seem to figure out how to get iLife's iphoto to upload to my usual photo sharing website, picasa or flickr. Anyone have any good advice for me? I feel like a newbie! It's so funny, photo uploading is normally as natural as breathing but last night, you would have thought I was trying to breathe helium. Hilarious! Not natural, and even a bit embarrassing. :D
UPDATE: I got it loaded! Yay! There it is, below :)

Aw I know how you feel, I thought I was closer to APL before I drew the lines but then after I thought about it for a while it didn't seem too far, but BSL, wow thats far away ahaha. You'll make it to BSL, no worries! Just be strong!
I need DH to take photos like this for me, it's hard to get the right angle doing it yourself unless you have a timer.
I feel that way too, chin to shoulder went so fast and now this seems to go soooo slow.
Aw thank you! I always feel I should change my avatar cause I have clip in extentions in that photo ahah, but I just like the picture :) My hair does the same yours does, the flippys can take away some length for sure.
Can I just say Maddy, it's amazing how much your hair has grown in just 14months. It is phenominal!
Hi, shoulder to Apl folks.
I'm getting mightily annoyed with my shoulder length hair as it has an uneven hemline I have been trying to ignore from an inverted aysymmetric bob (Pob) and the back is soo much shorter than the front APL seems to be taking forever :(
It's been a year in June since I had any trims or cuts and I'm debating whether to let the front get to APL (about 6 months max) then cut it all to one length. Or let the back get there (about 10 months) and cut. Hmm. Maybe a xmas haircut would be a good thing to aim for?!
Either way I'll be lingering here for the rest of the year for sure
Glad we can all suffer together!
Welcome pink.sara! Awesome avatar, you really know how to rock that haircolor lady! Woot! You and I both are growing out the pob, lol. :o I cut my hemline to even it out myself in December, and though it hurt to see the multiple month setback, I'm glad I did because the front layers were starting to look like really long floppy puppy dog ears on me! Ha! Good luck deciding my friend :) That is a hard one.
My gosh I hadn't seen your siggy growth pic, whew! Niiice! Amazing! :D I love your avatar too, gorgeous! I always envy you blondes! I say that with a bunch of Indigo on my head at the moment! :cheese: I am naturally an ash medium brown with light natural highlights around my face. I can't stand it! Hope it turns out fun in 30 when I rinse it out! Last time I had long hair I thought henna alone would be just what the doc ordered, but instead of flattering me it clashed with my fair skin! Funny too, because I am soo pale, freckles and blue/grey eyes. One would think it would work, but nope. Cool colors for me, so hopefully we'll end up with dark brown to black when we rinse...will post some pics if anyone is interested!
Hello to everybody else I have yet to greet! Happy Growing today wherever you are!
TGIF!
Jemoiselle :magic:
Haha! Jemoiselle that's hilarious! I had the EXACT same experience last night. I also have a new MacBook Pro, only about a month old, and I finally got a picture of my back, and got it uploaded no problem, then realized I didn't know where to go to add Maddy's infamous lines. So I spent a couple of hours trying to figure that out and wondering (and attempting!) to download photoshop for that purpose :shake:
Then realized all I had to do was use the toolbar at the top and voila! you can do anything you want to your picture. Yay!
Then I went to upload my masterpiece to LHC and FAILED! Finally gave up and went to bed.
Oh my gosh Alyanna we had the SAME exact night hahaha! I figured out how to load mine but gave up on the lines! You'll have to share with me how you did that, exactly lol. :D We are surely meant to be friends LOL
So I did my henndigo last night to try to give this boring length some oomph...turned out fun and finally nice and dark but doesn't change the fact that I hate this length! When I saw the post above mine's lines, where my hair falls it says "Boring!" ha! I so agree! You made me laugh out loud!
Here is my henndigo after shot! Hope it's ok to share here!

Jemoiselle LOVE the color! I wish I could do something like that - I've always wanted brown/black hair (guess we all want what we don't have?)
Alyanna love your waves/wurls/curls! So pretty! Your lines shot came out great as well.
pink.sara Another welcome and kudos for your color. So very cool!
I have to say that just above SL through just below is my least favorite length. It's driving me crazy! Because of the way it was undercut, I still have a full-on fringe of hair that hangs out underneath even if I decide to pull it up. Ugh! Grow hair - Grow! :)
I envy blondes too who can actually keep their natural colour! I'm naturally medium ash blonde, but it gets really light in the summer. But I can't grow it out! Roots drive me nuts so I always cave and dye it. At the moment I'm henna/cassia with a few milimeters of white blonde roots ahah. It always makes me sad to dye over them but red hair is pretty too <3
And it seems by the looks of the other photos being posted, that a lot of us are at the exact same length! We might all graduated to the APL to BSL thread around the same time hehe.
I had to come here and do a happy-dance. My hair is suddenly long enough to do a Gibson tuck, and have it actually stay! :cheese:
Sooo excited to have another updo option. I figured you all are probably some of the few folks who could sympathize! And of course I learned about the Gibson tuck from this forum...gosh, I love this place :)
Spitfire, Thank you so very much ;) I totally agree, we always always want what we don't have!
Maddy, I never realized that some blondes have issues with summer color lightening then have darker roots to deal with! See, you have heightened my perspective! Heh heh. What fun though to have a natural change in color that dramatic once a year, it must be refreshing! It does seem like we are all going to graduate at the same time. How cool is that?!!? Certainly has perked my mood having people to commiserate, uh, I mean, cheer each other on with! LOL
Epigrrl, That is awesome! Could I convince you to take some pictures, pretty please? Congrats! :hollie:
Last but by no means least, Alyanna, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Check this out! Also, Maddy, thank you too for being the catalyst

Go Jemoiselle Go!
:disco:
I'm getting so close to APL! Yay castor oil and patience!
Good progress everyone! What annoys me most at this length is all the flicking up my hair is doing! I'm only 2 inches away from apl but then my hair flicks up everywhere! I thought it would grow out of that lol
Glad i'm not alone :) I took a stripey shirt pic this afternoon. The below pic shows the comparison from the end of March (sometime between the 20th and 27th) and today. I've gained 4 stripes, 1.8 inches, yay! (sorry for the crappy quality)

I am going to make it my mission to find a stripey shirt for this thread!
Here's my first shot doing the line at APL thing. I thought I was closer than I am - maybe I really am a bit closer than it looks, the ends are turned up from putting it up wet into a cinnabun with a scrunchie for 3 days for work.

I wrapped my hair last night after CO wash, so today it's nice and straight, but I just don't have time (it being Mother's Day) to get a pic. Oh well - maybe next month! :)
You have come a "LONG" way since your pixie days, CrisDee! I have FINALLY made it to APL!! 'OH HAPPY DAY":cheese:

Congratulations!
