Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm another who will be here for a while, I was hoping for APL by 2013 but I think next Easter might be more likely. My hair is marginally on the faster side of average growth (so far anyway!) but I'm tall with a long torso and shoulder to APL is a vast expanse on me

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Currently I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that the hair seems to be filling back in where all the peroxide on the scalp had killed it :happydance: (Yay, bodily self repair systems overcoming human stupidity) :cheese:
The bad news is that I now have a ton of babyhairs and the thickening of my ponytail makes up-dos hard :(

Yay for your good news! As to the bad news, just think how lovely it will be when it's long and thick and swooshing about behind you as you walk :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm thinking maybe by Christmas/New years I'll hit APL. At least I hope. Love the fork Wildcat! No way my teeny bun would hole that up!

I'm right there with ya with the Christmas thing. I was hoping for Halloween, but not sure my hair growth is as fast as I am hoping it is. And believe me, that bun is puffed way out to compensate for the bigness of the fork, not sure I could quite duplicate that look again soon.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ravenheather and wildcat, I'm there! I should've been there by Halloween, but I hit a little stall and now my growth rate isn't exactly what it used to be. So I'm wearing my hair up and not measuring until Christmas morning/new years eve. I think the best present I can give myself is a combination of apl and my sanity.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Oh, and I forgot to say that my hair is thick enough/heavy enough to break things. My mom got me three hairsticks while she was on vacation. When she got back I was trying to prove that I could make a Ms. El knot. The knot held all through dinner. We were lounging around watching movies when I heard this big snap! and my hair fell all around my shoulders. The stick broke clean in half!

I'm abandoning the thread, lovely people! Hope to see you soon on the next milestone.

Congrats lundmir!
I can't wait to get to APL. I think I'll be hitting that mark hopefully in October-November! Definitely before Christmas. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Slowly making my way to curly APL hair.
Today I had a pleasant surprise. I saw my hair in the elevator mirror and realized that my hair had to split in order to lie correctly, with some in front of my shoulder and some behind.
Slow but steady wins the race.

Now that's a head of hair! :hifive:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Congrats, CurlyCap!
My hair isn't even that long, and I don't consider it very heavy, but I guess the stick disagreed!

Curly hair holds tension like a beast. My guess is that you had an incredible amount of tension across that stick and didn't even notice it because it didn't fall out and it didn't require tension on your scalp.
The joys of curly hair and hair toys. It is AWESOME.

I guess it is awesome! I also think I need to buy some metal sticks . . .

Lots of people rave about Pacific Mercantile's acrylic sticks for strength (Etsy). Don't think they're too expensive, either.

Yeah, the PM sticks are awesome, very sturdy and completely waterproof.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
OMG I GOT A FORK BUN TO HOLD!!!
http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/...photo-5-10.jpg
It's very messy, and the pic sucks, but it held!!
The fork blends into my hair pretty well.. I should get a different color so it stands out. Got it from this Etsy store - http://www.etsy.com/shop/EnchantedIn...ef=seller_info. Not sure to link to the specific fork tho..

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Congrats, Café Au Lait! :hifive: :cheer:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Wonderful! And it looks good messy like that. Maybe you will be able to do it again, too! It's a start.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Congrats Café Au Lait, looks great!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Nice Café Au Lait! Out of curiosity, are you able to do a flipped cinnabun securely with the hair fork too?
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you, everybody!
chachagrace, I haven't tried a flipped cinnabun yet. I'll try it though!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm the worst at the no-measure things! I've been stretching out hairs on the sides of my head above my ears, and a lot of them reach apl. There's some tugging at my scalp and it hurts a bit, but I seriously think I'm there. (I know y'all are tired of me thinking I'm there and then getting my hopes crushed, but I really am--I promise! I'll even stick around until October to make it official!)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was going to post here saying, "YAY I'M SL AND I'M ON MY WAY TO APL" when I realized...I already did! I've just been so busy lately that I haven't even thought about my hair! I'm so happy!
Still can't do a very nice braid, though, lol!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi all. It's been a long time since I've been around LHC. SUmmer fun has kept me pleasantly distracted.
I had been shoulder flirting for a bit then one day I realized that I am getting shoulder flippies which means I am in the zone properly! Funny how a past hair annoyance has become a triumph :)
Well, I hope to contribute to the thread more now and get to know you all a bit better.
Thanks :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi all! Checking in again, and also:
I'm looking for a partner or partners who want to be at waist length in early 2014 (February-May). I don't know if I should start a thread or a group for this, but you guys seemed like the people to ask--we're all around the same length, so I have a better chance of finding people who are interested here!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am calling myself shoulder now but I seem to be stalled as of the last month. I was growing about an inch a month since I started measuring in May but I have had no growth for the last month and while I have never tracked my growth before I have no idea if this is normal. I am still doing scalp massage and oiling but I just do not have anything going on. I have had hair just past BSL before so I always figured that I could at least achieve that again but now I am measuring right at 15 inches and have been since July 16th. Is this normal? Or have I somehow mucked up my terminal length by going way to short and chopping to even out my layers (aka avoiding the mullet look). I have been under a lot of stress for the last couple of months so could that be at the root of my problem? By stress I mean loosing our house, my husband having a diabetic related heart episode and having to scramble to find safe places for myself, my pets, my kids and being separated from my husband (by distance only). We are back together again and getting a handle on our new diet but it has been crazy.
Any thoughts would be helpful.
I am on flaxseed oil and prenatals on doctors orders (nursing).

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi everybody! I´m gonna hang here for a while. I think I still have an inch to grow before I reach BSL :)

I'll join you in that. I'm not sure if I can grow my hair that quickly but I'd like to try :)

I'm certainly hoping to be waist by spring 2014. I don't know how fast it will grow. I'm not trimming, unless it becomes extremely necessary. So it's really up to my hair.:p Hopefully somewhere around spring to summer.

I am guessing Summer 2014 for me. But it's purely speculation at this point.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks paleoqueen, ravenheather, and Wildcat Diva! Would it be best to start a separate thread for this (so I don't derail this one)?

I'd be interested in joining too. Though with reservations. I've promised myself to stick with this to BSL, and the idea of waist length seems nice to me now, but I'm too fickle to fully commit to that just now

Congrats! This gives me hope. I've got major bun envy around here, but my hair is thick and slippery which makes it extra hard to work with at this length. Did you do anything special with your hair to help the fork hold?

Welcome, whylime13! Tentative goals are okay.

If you want to start a support group for that, I would say so. Make sure to invite those of us who will fit in there with a link.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I'm a little below APL not so sure because the ends are dry and wavy, my hair still have a lot of layers so how do you know you are APL or not, does APL means that longest layer us at armpit? If yes then I'm there already, where should I go from here, LOL
