I'm almost at APL and it's my one year LHC anniversary! Pictures coming soon.
Right, as promised here are my (very quickly taken, and poor quality) photos!
You can see (I hope!) that one side is blonde at the end, and the other is dark ginger. What do you all think? I kinda love it...excuse the french twist/braid waves!

Ooo I like the ombre you've got going on joflakes, congrats on the growth!

This is how I have my hair at the moment. I was growing out my fringe but decided to cut it back in, I figured I'd wait until the rest of my hair grows out to decide what to do with it. My layers are about ear - jaw length atm, still not sure whether to grow everything out or maintain here until everything is one length :s (Also re -henna'd last week) :D
Your hair is looking stunning :)
I'm having the same dilemma but in reverse regarding the fringe issue haha, I really want to recut my fringe but I'm reluctant to sacrifice any thickness from my super fine hair and I'm also struggling with the "maintain and eliminate the layers" or the "grow and get to a length I'm happy with first" so I'm trying to combine the two if possible with very minimal trims with longer gaps of time between them
^ Thanks!
I can understand the fringe/thickness issue, my hair is pretty fine so it would be nice to see what it would do if I grew the fringe out, I could do with the extra thickness!
Joflakes, I love the colour! It looks awesome :D Also, your hair has gotten long indeed! :o
Geeorgie, I just love your colour as well! I just love red hair so I might be biased, but yours is very pretty :D Such a deep, rich colour!
^ Thanks :D I love yours too!
I've been off LHC for a while due to server issues, so I haven't been on this thread for a while. I just wanted to check in and say I'm about an inch and a half past apl now! Thank you all so much for helping me through this, especially as ubl was an awkward stage for me. I'm excited to see everyone on the other side.
Everyone's hair is looking great! Mine still seems to be growing like a weed (or so it feels!) so I'm pretty happy. The last few inches are pretty frazzled though so I need to make a decision about whether I'm going to mantain to get rid, keep growing or something in-between. I did originally say that I would maintain at 20" but now I've passed that it of course doesn't feel anywhere near long enough...
I think part of the reason it's looking messy at the moment though is because of my growing out fringe and mis-matched (stylist error) and growing out face-framing layers so perhaps if I take off an inch it will all look a bit neater? An inch feels like a lot though, I LOVE how long it's getting, I think I'd miss an inch a lot at this stage.
joflakes your dip dyed/ombre ends look awesome! And your hair looks definitely longer, especially taking into account it's got braid waves in the pic!
geeorgie Your hair is so amazingly shiny! I feel you on growing it layers, it's a pain. I've got some really short one at the back (result of removing my dreads this summer and cutting out a few that had clumped irreversibly).
Also, I know it's not hair-related but your double nostrils look amazing. I'm incredibly jealous!
I hate this length sooooo much. Stretched I am probably only 1.5 inches away from APL. Unstretched 2.5-3 inches or there about (hard to measure).
Some days my hair looks long and nearly there, other days it looks ages away. Bad hair day today too, my hair was so dry and frazzled so I smoothed it with some rosehip oil (feeling alot better now). Can't wait for APL!
I just posted my 1 year progress pics. I think I'm like an inch away from apl, check them out!

Hey all! It's been a while since I've posted, but I'm graduating! I'd post a photo of my barely-barely-barely APL, but it seems my 1996-style internet can't quite hack it without timing out, lol. Suffice to say after, what, a year+ in this section (maintaining, relayering and cutting off pre-LHC bleach damage), I've finally made it. Only the last inch or so is still the pre-LHC stuff, but none of it's bleached any more. BIG HOORAY FOR THAT! I'll probably be hanging out at the next length for a good long while--I grow fairly fast but it's so fine and thin I tend to get a lot of damage, so I'm expecting another year+ to get to my next milestone. See you all there soon!
I was away for a while and went past shoulder length.. So I'm in this group now.
My avatar is from early September but my hair seems to have had a growth spurt or something, it's about half way between shoulder and APL length now, about 22" by my very awkward measuring.. Which makes me only 6 inches from BSL and 10 inches from full waist, with waves and all :D
I imagine to be at APL some time next summer. Only 8 more inches and I'm back at my pre-chop length of 30"!! My hair grows at a pretty average rate I think. So that would be only 1 year and four months away at 0,5" per month and no trims. I had a trim a little while ago to even out the layers I had chopped myself so there is no need to have one in a long time.
Thanks! I love my double nostrils, I have a septum too but I keep that flipped up a lot of the time for work. I enjoy the symmetry :p I'm going to measure my hair when I wash it tomorrow, I keep forgetting but for some reason I don't feel like it's grown that much... :/
So close! Probably 2 months of growth until it is solid APL and past the line. Sorry the proportions are a bit off. But you can see the growth.

Hey everyone, I was away for a while due to some personal problems.
I'm pretty sure I graduated from this thread in the meantime, but I just wanted to say I loved it here and that everyone was great :D I will post some pictures of my progress though before I 'officially' graduate. :D
^ Congrats!
I measured today and my hair is at 18" now, so it's grown 5 inches since March, meaning I actually get 1/2" growth a month! Pretty weird seeing as I thought my hair was growing way below average pace haha.
My hair's at 21". I think I'm almost at APL? I dunno. I'm getting close. I should probably be there by February-ish.

Length shot from about a week ago.
(Sorry for the hugeness and not very good quality.)

Hello everyone! Mind if I join? Think I'm just at shoulder length now and I am so grateful to be past the awkward stages of the pixie -- especially with curly hair as I don't use heat!
I seem to either wear my hair down, half up or pinned all the way up in a random "birds nest". I'd like to try something new and was wondering if any of you have any suggestions of styles that will work well at this length?
Happy New Year!
Thanks Oktobergoud! :)
I have always found this length the absolutely most annoying. I had short hair for years and loved it, easy, cute, edgy.. did I mention easy? But of course lacking the special beauty and sensuality and mystery of long hair.
Whenever my hair gets past shoulder length it just feels like an in-between length. It's not short anymore but not long either. I like it either short or long. This definitely lasts until APL, if not to BSL. At least it will start to feel longish at APL, a bit more intentional as opposed to just being too lazy or indecisive to cut my hair.
And my hair's thickness makes it really hard to do any updo's either. (At 30" I was still only able to make a cinnabun so I'm not holding my breath..) Good thing I like to wear my hair down a lot, or just in a ponytail. Braids are good but also require more length. Having layers complicates things further, but I have decided I really like my hair better with layers, it's lighter and fluffier and the waves are more pronounced.
ETA: I just looked at my hair after a shower, and pulled on the ends when it was wet. I could hardly believe my eyes, it was SO close to APL, like 1/2". Of course my big waves take up a a lot of length. So I think it won't be until summer that my hair will actually look like APL when dry.
Thanks Oktobergoud -- your hair is looking very lovely! What did you end up doing with your hair for NYE? I ended up dividing my hair in sections and rolling the ends around two fingers, pinning the rolls in place low on the back of my head. It turned out pretty cute but I think it would look better with more hair. But at least I tried something new!
I feel the same way, the space between shoulder and APL feels really awkward to me, and I don't like how my hair behaves when left down. My marker for hair starting to feel long-ish is when an English braid will hold all my hair in securely. I don't know exactly how much longer that is (I've never measured or really kept track of my hair length before joining LHC!) but I should hopefully have it by the time I hit APL. Just 4 inches to go! :thud:
I made it to 21" this month (just!) but I desperately needed a trim so am back to 20.5". I have to say I wish I'd done it sooner. I have terrible damage on the last few inches from bleach, colour, BKT, stripping, more bleach and heat damage and it was looking awful. I was reluctant to trim as I didn't think it'd make much of a difference and I'm not willing to chop off all the damage yet but just half an inch and my hair looks so much better! Yes there is still damage and velcro ends but it looks so nice and neat and actually swishes! I'm a complete convert to trimming now, I just need to decide how often and how much so that I get a good balance between getting rid of damage/colour but still gaining length.
I know I'm not going to gain the lengths I was hoping for this year if I trim regularly but it's really worth it now I can see how much better my hair is now. I wish I'd trimmed lat month in time for Christmas.
I'm entering uncharted territory: I no longer wake up with epic fauxhawks, but tangled in the back instead! I've tried a silk cap, but usually shuck it in the night. I can tie most of it up on top of my head, and that works pretty well. How do you all sleep with shoulder length hair?
Thank you! I did nothing with my hair in the end haha, just wore it down! Got some compliments that it was getting long :D That is all :P
That does sound cute :) Do you happen to have any pictures? ;)
Uhm well I don't know.. I just wear it down? I do use a satin pillow case so that might be a difference.. but I never get tangles or anything?
I started braiding mine at shoulder length. I found that even with lots of layers it holds reasonably well if you do a French braid starting quite high up.
Oktobergoud every time I see your photos, I admire your red hair! How do you get it so beautifully red and what is your natural hair colour?
ah yes, this would be perfect if I could do a french braid in my own hair. My arms get tired, and my hair is very fine and slippery. I need to practice. I'm just past my shoulders and hoping to be at APL by summer.Quote:

I do scrunchy buns and sleep on a satin pillowcase which seems to help, I second french braiding, when I think about it though I think the frequent braiding may have contributed to my needing a trim last month so I am impatiently waiting for long enough hair to start stick bunning.
