I hate that there is such a big gap from shoulder to APL! I'm sort of half way between them both, i wish there was a name for that!! I guess u can see from my icon its around 2-3 inches past shoulder and 2-3 inches to APL!
I will be soooo happy when i reach APL because it still feels short!! Even though it was so short this time last year i couldnt put it up!
I blab too much...I could go one forever!
I'll do pictures tomorrow when I can get some camera help.
had to flat iron my hair yesterday, and realized I am like an INCH from BSL!!!
when curly/wavy though Im Calling it APL!!!
I may get to graduate to the APL-BSL thread...I"ll wait for pics to prove it, lol
I'm just past shoulder and my hair is taking forever to grow...
I aim to be APL or nearly APL By the end of the year!!!!!!
Uh just about 2 inches over the shoulders kinda like your first picture Kaileida. Hope i reach APL in december but i think it's a strech, grew 7.7 inches in 9 months (.85 inches a month) so i need only 4 inches...grow hair grow
Learning how to put on wigs in class today. Had to use the long hair method of pinning up my hair instead of the mid-length method. Awww yeah.
That's awesome, Synthemesc! ;)
I have no idea how my hair is coming along, been participating thoroughly in the wear hair up for a few months challenge. I will not wear it down for two months I've decided, and when I do wear it down, expect pictures of freshly-APL hair!
Just past shoulder, don't think I will make it to apl until Jan or Feb 2011. start Picture is in my profile album :) Took me 4 years of doing trims to get just past APL, guess my idea of a little trim was always an inch or more to them :(,, so this time I am doing no trims and see how long it takes lol ...

I have been taking a hair supplement, and I think it's working! The first pic was taken in late July or early August, and the second just a day or so ago. I know the different top makes it harder to see the change, but even so, I think I'm half way to APL!
Just a quick little rant.
My hair seemed to zoom to shoulder and is now refusing you get to APL. I dyed my hair at the begining of August to match my roots, and cheekily add in a blue underlayer to my fringe and I have no roots! It's been a month and a half nearly and I'm nowhere close to my average 0.5" a month growth :(
I may have to start my Hair, Skin and Nails supplements again. It's discouraging because the last time I was growing my hair I went from Shoulder to APL in 6months, then APL to BSL in another 6months without vitamins! I must've been doing something very different since my monthly growth rate slowed to 0.5" a month. I wonder if I could remember what it was. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Argh, it's so frustrating. I refuse to allow myself to check my length in a mirror until the first of the month (otherwise I'd obsessively check every day), but I think it might be APL now. I had a couple months of super, super-slow growth, and now it seems to be speeding up to compensate. Or there's something to be said for wearing a bun every single day to promote growth, who knows.
Redneckprincess I've decided to do a two-monthly photo to see how much difference an inch really makes, because an inch looks really small on the measuring tape :p However I am behind on my picture taking. I'll take one the next time I shower and deep condition. I gave up the measuring tape for the 90days challenge so the photos are the only evidence I have of growth.
ok, the long awaited lazy wrap picture

and length shot

I think I've hit APL. You can see the latest length in my profile pic. Now I guess it's either cut back to SL or go on to BSL.
Can I call my avatar picture shoulder length? It was taken today. APL seems too long to me, but I hope to get there in april 2011. In the meantime, I will continue with my routine: no cone poo, CWC wash, different rinses, like rosemary, camomille, calendula etc and tons of coconut oil. My hair loves it!
My hair is about the same lenght, but I'm far away from the lazy wrap bun. Maybe it's the layers combined with curls and thick hair.
In my guess-timation, it looks like I won't hit APL until Christmas or possibly a little later.:undecided
I'm declaring myself officially at shoulder length and joining this thread. :cheese:
Because I have sloping shoulders, I'll be here for a loooong time...
More and more of my hair ends are on APL ! :cheese: It is actually quite a thick hemline, but about 1/3 of my hair is around mid-neck length, perky and thin... I am in doubt: should i grow it all out 'till the layers hit shoulder and then cut back to sl? Or retain at apl and do 1"trims every 4 months?
Are any of you doing self trims on this length? Any tips for that? i am not able to do so... wish i was! Because the reason for not going to a hair dresser and have a trim tomorrow is money saving, i actually would love a trim right now.. On the good side: no trimming since May 2010 is how i am finally gaining length!
I just trimmed an inch and a half off of my ends this past weekend using http://community.livejournal.com/feyeselftrim and I am so pleased with how it turned out! I have never trimmed my hair myself so I was nervous, but I went ahead and did it anyway!!
Thank you Luluj! I will try this or next weekend.
I am around an inch past collarbone and i feel like its been here forever! I dont feel like it has grown at all and i am due for my 9 weekly trim on saturday. I wont cancel because its getting all messy and scragely so it needs a tidy and i only get tiny amounts cut off. I was doing so well with over an inch and a half worth of growth in 9 weeks.
Now i dont feel like ive made any progress. Maybe i need to take a length pic....i havent done one in a while....
Looks like APL is further away than i thought!
LOVE the user name!!! but yes Id most deffinetly say you are shoulder length..
and with that...I think I'll be moving on...I have undoubtably meet APL (once again) figured Id share a picture of proof...
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ictureid=83734 sorry that was supposed to be a picture, I guess i dont know how people post pictures from albums...well click on it theres more as well...
see ya all on the flip side...
Hi, I'm not sure if I already posted here yet, but I'm growing shoulder to APL. My DBF measured my hair on august 22th, and I had 2.5 inches to go before I reach APL. I feel like it's longer and it also looks much longer in the mirror. because I asked him this morning to measure my hair again and he told me that my hair needed 0.5 inch to be APL. I told him it was impossible that my hair has grown 2 inches in 5 weeks. Maybe he did a mistake when he measured it in August or it was wavier that day. I started taking Greens+ wild berry (powder) a couple of weeks ago, maybe it speeds up my growth.
Well.. I will reach my mini-goal very soon!!
Mine is just below shoulders and headed for APL. I'm looking at a good six inches to go.
Main goal is BSL.
I'm trying to hold out measuring until Oct 1st. I have no idea how fast my hair grows, but I know it's not fast enough!! haha
tigr, I could do that, but APL isn't a great length for styling for me. My hair is so slippery, it stays down too often, braided or in a ponytail. I want to do some of the beautiful updos I see here.
finally reached APL! only took a year from chin woo! now to learn some updos....
How many inches does everyone have to go before they hit APL? I just looked in the mirror and I'd say I have about 2....
I'm between shoulder and APL at the moment, I STILL have yet to measure my hair (can't find a tape measure) so I guesstimated on my measurements XD. My goal is waist length, but APL is my minigoal as that means I'm about halfway there. My hair generally grows quickly, probably about between 1/2"-3/4" a month, if I treat it nicely... so I hope it doesn't take forever XD.
I'm happy. Today I was able to do 2 french braids on my shoulder length hair! They aren't perfect, because of the layers and spiky hair, but anyway! I missed braids!
*pictures later. I'm at work and I don't have my camera here
I have about an inch/inch and a half to go before I reach APL (unless I throw my head back!). It is below shoulder length (20") but I just measured it for the first time at the end of August. It was cut much shorter than I wanted in June, just skimming my shoulders, and it has grown a couple of inches since then. At that rate I *should* reach APL by the holidays. The chin - APL is pretty easy for me (I've done it over and over), but APL - BSL seems to take forever.
My hair is very thick and pretty coarse and it tends to break all the "thick hair" barrettes, combs, elastics, etc. from mainstream outlets. The only things that really hold it are large Ficcares and Grahtoe hair forks with at least 4.5" functional prongs. I have several pairs of Mei Fa hair sticks, but my hair has escape artist tendencies and the sticks alone are not enough to hold it securely. I mostly use them as "helpers" or decoration in messy buns I've made with a "scrunchie" (I use cut out sections of tights). It is also blunt cut straight across which looks pretty when it is down and straight, but that blunt end isn't very easy to work with in an up-do. Looking forward to more natural ends as it grows.
Hmm, I don't know if I've really seen any growth since I joined. I think my hair is at that point where what actually grew is still getting caught up in my neck/shoulders and not actually showing the real length. WHATEVER.
I am still reluctent to call mine shoulder length. It is resting at my shoulders but it still looks short. I am still going to post in here cuz soon enough I will officially say it is shoulder length. The way I am feeling - it may be something like forever before I move on to APL. Likely closer to May 2011 at the one year mark of my (horrible) cut. I predict 2 yrs to get back to BSL.... but really, once I get past the point where I am now and my hair "feels" long again, I won't care how long it takes to get to APL, BSL... cuz it just won't be "short" anymore... so, I'm predicting about 6-7 months of growth.... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
