I'm 1c/2a I think. It IS awkward, but to me not nearly as bad as pixie to chin. To make things worse, I comb my hair when it's wet, so it looses most of the real s-waves and has just some weird body wave that bends everywhere. And I have grown out pixie layers and chin length pieces in the front. But I never wear my hair down now that I can put it up, so it's not really that unbearable.
ETA: Just noticed we are almost hairtwins :)

I found it to be the opposite....when it was about shoulder, those silly "flippy things" really got on my nerves! Now that it's past shoulder, the waves actually look like waves and add to the body/style.
I try not to fight the waves too much and just let them do what they want. They do seem to have a mind of their own....

There are not that many yet, but I usually do either a french twist, a peacock twist or a gibson tuck. For french twist, I like to use a hair slide, but you could use a hair comb, barette or just u-shaped hair pins. I use a claw clip or a hair slide for peacock twist and for gibson tuck, just a hair tie and hair pins (u-shaped). The shorter side hair doesn't stay up well, so I use bobby pins to keep them in place. Peacock twist was the first updo I could do apart from pony tail, gibson tuck is still a bit messy. I'm useless at braiding, shorter layers get me frustrated, so I don't do braids yet.

Haven't tried a gibson tuck yet. I'm doing the others already. Thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something that would work with this length and our texture.

Another hairtwin! Well then, do you yourself do any other updos apart from what I mentioned?

I was dabbling with a sock bun (babysock or baby legwarmer) today. I want to try a bohemian twist that I saw somewhere. It's two strands twisted down each side. I think that might work. Mostly french or peacock twist though. On wash day I leave it down and just pull the top up in a barrette.

Yup thats me, When I was bob-shoulder I flat ironed it, couldn't deal with the flips. Now that i'm almost to APL I just put it up all the time. I'm hoping by the time I'm at BSL it will look nice down...

Just noticed, there is a lot of 1c/2as in here, ha
