Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm at the stage where I'm so, so tempted to chop it back to a layered bob or some sort. This length (just touching collarbone) is NOT flattering on me. Today I was looking at women with hair lengths like my own, and couldn't help imagine them with a bit longer hair, or much shorter. I feel like this "no man's land" doesn't compliment most facial structures like a shorter or longer length does. Longer seems to slim a face, and shorter brings out all the wonderful features like cheekbones and eyes. Anyway, I'm back to lurking pretty much, trying to fight the strong urge to cut it all off. I think for me, my hair will not be at a flattering length till January.
To michelle483: I know I can't see your hair in person, but it looks healthy in the photographs! I like the hue of blonde you have, it's pretty and does go with your roots very well.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm sure you look fine, woolsweater! After all, you are your own worst critic  Collarbone length definitely looks more flattering on me than the pixie did...
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've found that curling my hair (pin curls, rag curls, or bee bottom curls are all LHC-approved) helps to eat up some of the length temporarily while I'm at that awkward just-past-shoulders length. It's helped me to stop thinking about cutting it.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
WoolSweater try to remember how you felt after you cut short the last time, it might help you fight the urge...? I gave in to those urges last November and within weeks hated my short hair, and it's taken me till now to get (nearly) all that length back!! I'm hoping the feelings of hair grief will stop me from chopping again in the future... To waist and beyond!! (In a buzz light year stylie!)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Reporting in!
I tried the towel test. My hair just reachs the towel, but im not going to call it APL until its solid.
I estimate I will be there near the end of november!
WOOHOO! Thats an early start for BSL in 2014! Maybe waist in 2015/2016?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I know how you feel woolsweater, we have about the same length. I try to keep it in a French twist, sock bun, or pony tail so that it doesn't look so short. It really is an awkward stage to be at. Grow hair grow!!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
OOh, how does one sock bun short hair? Is there a tutorial you followed?
Alimc, you are *so* right, I keep trying to remember how awful I felt, however now my mind is saying "but that was a bad haircut, go in and get a good one!" haha. Auugh!
Thanks for the support, everyone. I do think a layered bob or super long hair suits my face... which one will win..
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
@Woolsweater - Hang in there! You'll grow soon enough. I've been wearing my hair up and also trying those pin curls -- they actually turn out really well after a bit of practice!
@BlondeWavyGal - Yay! I am so happy for you! :D I have not passed the towel test yet but I am getting there!
I have been feeling long lately and I just updated my signature to include the difference between September and October! Hehe, it's not much, but it is definitely getting there! I think I can definitely make it to APL by Christmas! Yay!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
@BlondeWavyGal: CONGRATS!!!! I am so happy for you~ I won't be even CLOSE to passing the towel test for a while now.
@Liz: Your hair pretty much looks APL to me in your siggy. If I saw you irl I'd be jealous and be like "I wish I was APL already... :(" lol
ETA: So back in April I shaved a small section of hair by my neck... it grew 4 inches in 6 months! I can't wait for it to be long enough to put into my updos... -_-
And also, I can't wait until my hair is a more braid-able length. My friend, who's hair is nearing classic length, wears her hair in a braid every day. We have very similar hair types, so she's daily hairspiration for me. :o
She's not LHC-grade paranoid about her hair so she doesn't take pristine care of it but it's still growing! Every day I remind myself that if she can do it, then so can I!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
@emilylightning: Awww, thanks! Almost there! I think I will be a solid APL in a few months and then we can graduate to the APL to BSL thread! Wahoo! :D
