I wouldn’t worry about SD ruining your hair. Those split, broken, or white dotted hairs are going to break off or travel up the hair. So they’re often going to come off anyways. You’re just preventing the damage from travelling further up than it would if you just left them. Also I think it would take a few years of SDing for you to really notice any affect on your hem line :flower:

Ooooh Jem a video would be REAL cool! I think I understand what you're saying about the twisties. So if there's little hair sticking out further *up* your length, would you snip those too?
See my problem is that I still have remnants of my Heidi Klum shag, which was my last haircut before I started growing out again. I still have shorter pieces around my face that were cut at an angle and with one of those razor thingies so each little hair is a different length and the ends are all frayed (on purpose). So if I twist, there'll be little hairs sticking out every which way.
That reason, the highlights, and the fact that my roots are in so much better shape than my ends and I'm not even "long" yet have kind of made me decide to hold on the "no trimming" strategy. I need at least one more decent trim, probably around beginning of July, to give those frayed ends a chance to grown out and then I can even things out a bit.

I hadn't ever realized how far apart my shoulders and armpits are, lol (not any further than anyone else's btw :) )

I had a similar thought 1.5 years ago, and I regret all those trims. Really. I kept trying to trim away the layers and damage, and I should not have. I should have just moisturized and babied the ends and let it grow, b/c grown out layers and even some damage are less annoying than hair that won't get past shoulder. I lost a year of growth by trimming my Katie Holmes bob. I should have just sucked it up and by now I would have been almost BSL with some layers that would all have been below my shoulders anyway.

Without further ado, here you go! I am such a dork, sigh. :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have finally reached shoulder length, so APL is coming up slowly but surely! :D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've reached APL in the wet super straight state, but dry (and brushed out) it's still in UBL. I feel so between chairs. (Hope that makes sense)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hair growth is an amazing thing. Even if it looks like your hair's not growing even the littlest bit for many months, it is still growing! :) And then you suddenly notice you're almost at your goal.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm juuust at shoulder length if I straighten my hair, but at mid chin/shoulder length if I leave it in its natural curly state. I imagine it'll probably take a year-ish to get to APL.
I'm really wishing I'd never cut it back when it was at BSL, haha.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Jemoiselle LOVE the video! I've read about trimming this way before, but have never seen a vid of someone actually doing it, so that was really helpful! Thanks! :D
Okay - so the pic isn't great, it's a little lopsided and I didn't mess with pinning up the fringe underneath - but I managed a sock bun! I honestly can't believe it stayed! I did Loepsie's method (Here if you're unfamiliar with it) - and do have one pin on the top holding down a stray chunk that didn't want to go in, but woo-hoo! :)
..and it's still up an hour later. :cheese:
Had to share :D
