Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Stretched, my hair length places me in this group.
It is a few centimetres shy of collarbone. I need to figure out how to upload pictures again...

That's great! :) I really want to learn to make neat braids on my hair, but it's really hard with my layers now, and it's too short for a single braid. I suppose that's why you do double ones, too!

I switch between a peacock twist with a claw clip, and just a ponytail, on most days. Wish I could avoid ponytails, though!

Just down, in half-ups, or in some medium-length-hair-friendly updos? :)
I have been practicing braids as well. My layers make it difficult, but I can finally do a messy double Dutch braid :). Two buns on the side of my head are a favourite as well.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I did the towel test tonight and if I managed to measure correctly, I have about 13 cm (approx. 5 inches) to APL. My hair grows relatively fast but I think it's going to take about 10 months until I reach APL. It seems like forever!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Cross-posting this lenght shot, I think it's quite accurate.
I think for Christmas we should be close enough.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
SleepyTangles, BTW, you have such cute freckles on your back. :)
I have freckles all over (face is full of them). I just love them. :inlove:
You should make great progress before Christmas!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you lapushka, they are mostly moles/beauty marks, but there are so many of them!
Probably the face is the only place I don't have as much, only few on the jawline and temples

We are nearly at exactly the same length. Wow, your hair color is so rich and beautiful. You're thinking APL by Christmas? Rock on! Let's see if I get there then, too. I grow 3/4" a month. I'm doing no trimming 2nd half 2020 then planning to give another solid chop in January 2021 to get rid of the last henndigo bits on my ends, so I'll be in this thread for a fair while. Haha.
Ps. To echo lapushka, awesome freckles. :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm really wanting to get to APL! I tried measuring, why is it so hard? It really would be nice to hit it by Christmas though!

Mmmkay so whatcha doing to measure? I use a mirror and a tape and start from my hairline. I hold the tape in one hand and the mirror in the other to see in the bathroom mirror, like using a rear view mirror in a car. For measuring how far to APL, I use the towel test (wrap a towel around you under the armpits and make it taught and straight). I use the mirror again to check that.
Measuring is really tough at this length because the hair curls up at the ends and does "fun" things around our shoulders. Measuring gets easier at APL. Trust me. LOL

Thanks BB :D, the color was freshly done so it's extra deep!
I wish sooooo much to reach BSL but math is against me, but APL should be doable. We'll see, I won't surrender easily :guns:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I JUST hit APL, very excited. It took me about a year to go from roughly shoulder length to here

Congratulations!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was almost at APL, then I chopped off over 3 inches because my ends were an absolute mess, and now I'm back to shoulder.
I don't know that I want to go much longer than APL, my hair is extremely delicate and I've always had a lot of shedding, so my canopy is just a halo of shorties and it never looks very good when it gets BSL+
APL let's it be big and lion's mane like, plus it allows me to get away with more heat styling.

I've seen the photo and your amount of shorter, growing hair didn't seem abnormal to me, is it possible that it just stands out more to you because it doesn't flow with the rest of the hair? Or do you have increased shedding as opposed to your normal amount, or some medical scalp condition that causes excessive shedding and needs to be treated? If no, it really might just be that it looks like a lot of hair but is quite normal. :)

I have psoriasis and I've been sick for the past several years, so I've shedded A LOT of hair. I have way more baby hairs now than I did 10 years ago.
I'm pretty healthy now, and my scalp is less angry, so I'm hoping the shedding is over.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
The distance I have to grow from shoulder to APL is 19.5cm. I have a few centimeters' head start (roughly 3cm), but that is still some way to grow.

I see! Then yeah, hopefully it should calm down to what your normal levels of shedding should be. :) And since your hair is still relatively short (by LHC standards, anyways!), it shouldn't take that long to catch up!

I might cut it even shorter too, I've decided to grow out my virgin hair again, and will probably chop it to a bob to get rid of the coloured length quicker.
I grew out my virgin hair to waist 7 years ago for the first time since my teens, and I was so incredibly disappointed with the texture.
However, that hair had been grown out during the highest stress and least healthy years of my life. I'm hoping if I grow it out now under so much healthier circumstances, that it will be more like the hair texture I remember from when I was younger...but with a TON more grey.
I'm actually pretty excited for the greys, I'm finally grey enough to have full on streaks, which I've wanted forever.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yay! My hair finally stayed in a gibson tuck today!! :D Well... I needed about 10 u-pins, but it worked!:cheer:
Do you have any other recommendations for protective hairstyles? My hair still doesn't really want to stay in a bun. It's a smidge below SL.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I changed my mind and did Fire Genasi henna/cassia today. It really has improved the feel of my hair, so I don't feel a need to chop any more off at this time, so I should get to APL pretty quickly.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Happy to be here! :D I'm finally back at shoulder after buzzing my hair off, getting an undercut, etc.. Tentative goal of hip length.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair is so close to APL, and it's actually starting to feel long to me now! I'm thinking by the end of May I'll get there.

Me too, APL is where I finally feel like a short hair cut has "grown out" again.

Another person with a past undercut! Hi :)

Mine too! Some hair tips reach it and it feels so much longer than just a month ago. Not sure when I'll be calling it though, curly hair dilemmas.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Just finished a necessary trim. Places me about 3 cm away from collarbone on my left side and about 4-5 cm away on my right.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just checked, and stretched, it's solid APL, with several layers past it! So... I guess it will be a few more months here. :D

That's awesome! Congratulations :D
Do you call it when all your layers have reached APL or when the longest strands in their curly state have reached it?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you both! :o It feels like it sneakily grew when I wasn't looking. It's the longest I had my hair in many many years, it feels strange (but in a good way!).

I'm currently undecided on this, but I will probably wait until the second scenario! In this case, the layers is the entire ex-nape undercut that's playing catch up, so I might just keep on tracking two lengths until I do a trim of the top, but visually, the top length matters more.

Makes sense :) For most people that would be APL visually anway. I don't know how long your undercut currently is, but I can imagine it will take a little while to catch up. My bangs are still growing out, and that seems to be a never ending process...

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think this may be my first post. I have finally reached shoulder length from a rather short pixie last September. I can finally successfully clip back the front of my hair out of my face. My next goal is to be long enough to get all of my hair into a ponytail. I am really looking forward to APL.

That's amazing! Being able to gather it all in the simplest updo definitely feels like a major milestone, so fingers crossed you get there soon!

Great milestone being able to clip the front of your hair back! Congrats and welcome.
I'm about 2" past collar bone right now. APL is 24" on me, BSL is 27 ish. I think I'll be at APL by Christmas.
