Wow, I envy you! Congratulations! Are you really only at 18 inch? Mine is 22 inch and I don't think I can do a lazy wrap bun. I'll try it on the weekend thought... :o

APL is taking forever. I am definately past shoulder but between my height and my wurls I feel like I will get there in another year's time. Ah well, keep it up and no more trims for a while. This is the plan!!!!
My plan is to get a small trim every 4 months or so. That way I have gained 2" before getting trim. I should be at APL late spring / early summer.
I've got like 2 inches until my bottom layer is at APL. I almost cut it over Thanksgiving weekend to my shortest layer...that would have made it chin length. I hate my hair right now, but I am so glad I didn't cut it!
You reminded me to measure. It’s now 19 inch. It will be nice to get out of the teens and into the 20’s... so close.
From what I've read here I think being able to do some styles has more to do with thickness than length. I use to get my hair heavily thinned. The hairdresser would cut at the underneath with thinning shares, it’s a weird experience. The thinned hair will probably be in the bottom ¼. I wonder if that’s helping me?
I am sooo close to APL. About an 1 1/2 inches away. Im so ansy and I just wanna be APL already. Ive been between shoulder and APL for 10 months now! Why the the distance between shoulders and armpits have to be so long? Lol!
YAY! I can finally join this thread!
After 5 months, from pixie, I hit shoulder!
On my way to APL now! This should be an interesting stage in the journey...
Very pretty hair, hairfaerie! I LOVE your color.
Wow hairfaerie! Your hair grows so fast! It has taken me a full year to get to shoulder from pixie length.
I might be a wee bit past shoulder in the back but the front is shorter so overall it feels like shoulder length to me.

I am remembering why I haven't grown out my hair before. Doesn't stay in a ponytail, can't do a Peacock Twist, can't braid it easily. Curse of fine hair that is well into iii.
Three more inches until APL for me, so I'll join this thread too. I hope to be there by May or so. Time to learn some pretty updos; I've been reliant upon my scrunchie and my plastic claw clip for far too long now!
I must say, it's really encouraging to read some of the older parts of this thread and see avatar and sig photos with hair MUCH longer than shoulder to APL! How quickly the present becomes the past.... unless we're talking about the length of our hair! :p
MandyBeth, while I probably have a third of your hair, my hair is ultrababyfine and very slippery. I know claw clips aren't really the hot style around here, but scunci makes some that have a silicon (?) nonslip lining on the inside and I swear by it when nothing else works. I've never had a problem with my hair getting caught or tangled either - it's not like those fancy metal ones - and it stays put all day. (And that includes 60 minutes of bicycle commuting in Boston, so that's saying something!) I've seen versions for thick hair too - wonder if that would help you keep it up. Your hair is going to be incredible when it's long - I do so envy thick hair and all its problems! :)
I was told in another thread that i am now at shoulder! Yay! I have bee growing out my pixie cut for 9 months now & this is what it looks like...

I am so happy to hit a new milestone. I wear it in a bun every single day cause i hate the mullety thing goin on back there.
Ah, but that is the other problem with thick hair, I snap plastic in 2.3 seconds. Or I pop the hinge.
Ahh, sounds like the "For Thick Hair" wider versions might be a case of "product designed by someone who doesn't use it" then. :P
Kathie, can you do a video of how you do a lazy wrap bun? pretty please :) Maybe there is a trick to it, how to do it with shorter hair.
I tried, but there was no way to do it.
I am really looking forward to hitting APL cause that will be the longest my hair has been in 6 years!!! That will be a HUGE milestone for me!
Wee I'm at APL already :) my hair grows 2 months faster than my previous measurement.
Sure, I'll make one within the next couple of days. I've noticed that there are different ways of doing a lazy wrap, the method shown in Habioku's YouTube channel is the only method that works for my length.

Thank you, that already helped. This way my hair is only a little bit to short. Maybe I can do this style for easter 2011 :D
APL is very, very close!
However, I'm starting to really need a trim. I don't want to lose all of this progress but I have some mega spit ends... ):
I've been happily discovering that I can do more updos as I slowly get past shoulder. :) no hope of a lazy wrap for me yet but I can do a French twist, French roll, Gibson tuck, peacock twist, and a sock bun.
I'm adding pictures to my flickr page.
And my latest discovery...sock bun waves!!! It looks like a lion's mane at this length but I'm holding that thought for later....I could probably get some nice big victoria's secret waves once my hair is longer.
I tried it again like you did in your video. did you use a bobby pin? thank you for the video :flower:
this is what I came up with: http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...t/PC080005.jpg
I tried Kathie's tutorial too, this is what came out:

Thank you Kathie! :D
Roscata, it came out very nice :)
I don't know, what we'd do without Kathie's tutorials :D
Oh, thanks :o
I'm really happy to help :D
Just found this thread! I cut may hair short (chin) last April, which was stupid with a capital S. I have regretted it since. I have had a few trims and colorings, but it is now just below shoulders and heading to APL. I am planning on getting it dyed one final time back to my natural color, but then leaving the color alone. I probably will not trim unless I get splits or need it shaped a bit as it grows. I also want to get rid of my layers, but need to wait until it is longer or I will suffer from poofy-triangle head. I am hoping that I can get to APL by June, my hair grows fairly fast when treated well.
:happydance: I'm so close to APL... only an inch left gooooo!
This is for everyone in here, but especially for triumphator :cheer: :D
I'm at a very awkward stage with my shortest layers approaching chin length and my longest layers just past shoulder. This length always makes me feel frumpy.
Did anyone else go through a similar awkward stage at the same lengths with layers? I feel like the layers are dragging down my face. Does it get better if I leave it alone? Or should I get a stylist to blend in the layers so it's not so obvious where they end? Chunky layers ending right at my chin...awkward!!!
I struggled for 10 years to get past this length and always ended up cutting it myself in the bathroom, to just above shoulder length with cheekbone-length layers, to make it flattering again. So I don't think cutting it on my own will work - I need to either leave it alone or get a real stylist to work on it.
