Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just wanted to share something, I can finally get my hair to hold with a fork! It's just a peacock twist, and a pretty messy one at that, but it feels like a huge milestone :D

I don't love the fork but it was cheap and is good for practising with. I've just ordered these sticks which I like much better (two of them, I don't think one will hold my hair just yet).

Yaaaaaay! :cheese: Best possible milestone :)
I'm at the point where I can JUST BARELY hold up a bun with a stick (I've only tried pencils so far) but it slowly falls out over time because of my layers. I can tell I'm not far off from needing to buy my ~~~~***FIRST HAIRSTICKS***~~~ :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Here's my late TTT picture:

I finally broke down and decided to open a photo bucket account. It turns out I already had one, with pictures in it from 6 years ago! My hair was so long then, and now I am reminded of how much I miss it.

Congratulations! I can't wait until I can do a good peacock twist. I can get a messy one in with a clip, but it doesn't stay for long.
Actually I like that fork. It kind of sticks out, but I like the swirl.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Great twist, palaeoqueen!
Well, folks, I think I'm gonna call it: I'm now at APL. The longest layer of my dry second-day hair falls below the towel line, and still brushes the towel line on the first day after wash when it's curlier. I'm off to the APL-BSL thread, although I may still look in here occasionally. Happy growing, everyone!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Congrats palaeoqueen! Your twist looks awesome and I think the fork is cute too(well, at least you have one, while I still don't, though I plan on buying one! :D).

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Way to go, Charybdis!!! I'm still maybe 2-3 inches shy of the towel line... crossing my fingers for my new supplements to boost growth speed.
Remember how just today I was talking about how I can't yet do real stick buns? Well I decided to check and OH MY GOD it finally works!!!!
Blurry, but here's my first solid stick (pencil) bun :D :D :D :D

I can't wait until I can do a stick bun. Yours looks great!
It appears that we're "hair twins" too, although you're a few inches longer than me.. :D

They end with the third one, but once they're covered, woo, I'm APL. My next ones, however, are not til hip length and end at fingertip, so covering them will take a while.;)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
OMG, dollyfish, how did you DO that???!!! I have iii hair too, and I cannot do anything except a half-up with a stick. (Admittedly, I'm klutzy.)
Thank for the congrats, ladies! I'm lucky in that my hair grows fast, but I also have a loooong torso, so I'm going to be in MBL land for a long time yet. But that's OK! I need to start looking seriously at forks.

You know how when you put in the stick you kind of do this weird twist-and-thrust thing to get it to stick? I did that about 6 times instead of the 1 or 2 I've seen in youtube tutorials :P
ETA: lol I added it to my sig... I'm quite proud

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have some pretty terrific news :) While i haven't been posting a lot on here, i did order custom made hair sticks from Nightblooming :rolling: With matching earrings!
I decided to go with the 5,5", so i can grow into them so to speak (but i'll be able to wear them right now as well i'd think :D
They change color when it's hot/cold!! I'm so excited!!

Those are gorgeous!!! Love that color change material.
Perhaps I should finally treat myself to something from Nightblooming now that I can actually use hair toys...

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
If you decide to, her customer service is amazing :) we had a pretty long back-and-forth convo about the length of the sticks, whether or not the earrings were nickel (turns out they were, but she found silver wire for me instead :D). I think she would be open to quite a lot of ideas for custom orders if you don't find what you are looking for right there in her shop :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
May I ask how long it took from when you finalized your order until when your custom was ready?
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I don't think she finished it yet, we just finished discussing the design/earrings. I'm not sure if the picture she posted is one of an earlier custom made stick she did (the same) or if it's actually mine :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm waiting for my first pair of hairsticks to get here. :crush: I ordered a pair of holly bullet sticks from Grah-toe.
Holly sticks would look so pretty in your hair, rowie. I am jealous of your dark locks! :p
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I decided I was impatient, and though I will order a custom design from Nightblooming some day, I decided to buy a (naturally shed) porcupine quill for my first hair stick :D
In other news, I swear my hair grew an inch overnight. Or maybe this is an optical illusion. SO CLOSE!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just took the chop to chin length about a month ago, I had done some damage to my APL length and had gotten to the point that I could not brush my hair unless it was soaked and conditioned. I found LHC about two days later so hopefully I'll be able to treat my locks with more love and get some length again. I think I am probably about six months from APL assuming that my hair will grow at least as fast as it always has before. With any bit of luck I'll have BSL in about a year and a half, after that any length will be past what I've been able to achieve before.

I did this exact same thing last May! I had bleach damage to my hair from the chin down, so I cut it all off... I immediately regretted it. But at least now my hair that has grown in is undamaged and easy(easier) to handle.
And it sounds like you have very fast growing hair (6 months to APL from chin is ridiculous! Very jealous over here) so you should have no problem waiting around lol.
Welcome to the thread :cheese:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
6 months chin to APL ... envy! I am still months away from APL and was at chin over a year ago! I hope to hit APL before the end of the year. November would be nice, as I would have been on this thread for a year at that point. heh.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair was APL at Christmas last year, but I was growing out a blunt fringe, and since I don't have any layers I just had this weird shorter chunk of hair at the front. So in February this year I chopped it all to the length of my grown-out fringe (or bangs) and it was a bit shorter than shoulder length. Four months later it's a bit longer than shoulder length and I'm hoping to get back to APL by January next year. It's taking for-bloody-ever though, and my hair is really very thick so at this length there's not a lot I can do with it other than put it in a ponytail (I've tried a simple bun but it's too thick to even twist around itself at this length) or French/dutch braid it.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair speed grows from chin to BSL (usually) but it seems to stop all forward progression from BSL on, fast is great but the burn out is rough :P I've already gotten better than half an inch of growth since I started here on the 16th of May. I'll do the "official" measurment on the 16th of May. Also I am only 5'2" so my distance from one goal to the next is much shorter.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've been spamming this thread lately because I'm just SO CLOSE to APL
Could...could this count? shudder:

Thanks! It's my natural brown with henna, so it's got a warm tint with a great strong red shine in the sun (not under the bathroom lamp though)
Changed my sig! I am now officially APL!!!!

Have you tried bunning by splitting your hair in half and then twisting the halves around each other? I can just about manage one like that.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
There's a lot of interesting braids out there other than french/dutch :D gotta learn 'em all! :p
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I'm having a growth stall :( my hair seems like it's been the same length for the past month. Hopefully it's gearing up for a growth spurt, this is getting ridiculous!

Welcome NoRush!!
Treatment Tuesday and I'm sitting on the couch with a peppermint mask on my hair. Feels wonderfully fresh and I hope it stimulates my scalp enough to grow like it would in summer :o
Unfortunately the warm weather is over already (after 3 full days...) and it's cold and raining non-stop. You gotta love Belgium!

Hopefully the clouds have dumped most of the rain over us (well they should have, because it's been hacking it down for 2 days straight).

Oooh...maybe the warm weather will come to Finland! :) I'm doing Treatment Tuesday tomorrow, because my hair is currently recovering from my recent trip to the salon :D
