Congrats on so much growth in two weeks, by the way!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I got 1/2" in 2 weeks also. Yay Monistat! Usually I'm 1/2" per month. Last month was just over 1/4" for the whole month. I'm very pleased.

I can't decide about layers. I love them when I wear my hair down, but I usually wear my hair up. The layers I have are pretty weird-looking, though, since they used to be an angled bob.
I think when my hair is long enough, I'm going to trim it myself, and that would be easiest with a blunt cut.
Do any of you use Feye's method? At what length does it become feasible?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've used feye's method a couple of times, but do need a mirror (because i can't see the ends of the ponytails i make) and someone to help me with the last part of the u-cut (pulling the elastic down and cutting the tip).
Ugh this heat is driving me crazy! Only last week i still wore a wintercoat out and now my summerdress, it's insane!

I've had trying monistat in the back of my mind for a while now. I'm still considering it, but I don't think I could put cooter cream on my head :p I've been using oils oils oils, massaging, and upping my protein intake.

OMG! So much has happened since I had a sudden meeting with my thesis committees. Ok I'll try my best to get caught up.

My facial structure is just too strong to not have bangs.
Sweety, I think you are right that you need bangs to accentuate your pretty strong facial features, only thing is you would risk the ability to do certain updos, especially bunning at a half-up do which I'll show as soon as I'm caught up.

Thanks ravenheather! I started braiding the moment I can French braid my hair. This braid was like 48 or close to 50 attempts at braiding my own hair. What really helps me a lot is having my rat tail comb, and really taking my time and using a tri mirror stand with a hand mirror. Simply taking my time was the key, and keeping my mind somewhat occupied whether it was by listening to music or watching a movie.

OMG I failed miserably doing the Crown braid! You did a fantastic job for your first try. Have you tried heavy oiling? I know it works for me whenever I French braid my own hair. But don't worry, I haven't given up. I'll keep trying, and when I can make it look decent you'll be the first to know!

Hey, nice to see you! The biggest secret I have is to use a good amount of coconut oil. Have a rat tail comb handy, and if you could use a tri fold mirror stand with a hand held mirro helps a lot. I literally drenched my hair with coconut oil, and by the time I took this pic most of it has almost dried. Yes, I have very porous hairs.

Wow you did a fabulous job! It is a very interesting look, plus I like the loose braids because it makes your braids look thicker! Kudos to you, I have a lot more practice doing the crown braid. I now take inspiration to your style!

This, but I usually stick with good ole coconut oiling in general since I have very porous hairs. I hope all is will with work though!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Anyone tried the Nautilus bun yet? I was able to try the Nautilus bun, but I can only do it in a half-up do. I didn't know how to stick the sticks in so it turned into this spiral look instead. I also think that maybe this bun usually calls for traditionally one stick? I guess I have to revisit youtube again. I think that it was Terra who gave the tip to try doing complex buns at a half-up do because your hair here is generally longer around that area (crown area?), I think she got it from some board, I just don't remember where.
The only problem I see with Terra's tip is this might pose some difficulties if you have layers. Hmmm bunnysaur do you have any pics of you without bangs? Cause it might be worthwhile to consider growing out any layers in the back of your head but still have bangs? Or is your bangs the only layer you have, I don't remember if you mentioned where you have layers.
P.S These are bullet sticks Kimi sent me. And now you can see how my hair looks like before I oil it. Super coarse like horse hair!:pegasus:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
You guys! It's been forever since the last post! Don't tell me this thread is gonna die :(
So, to start off this thread again: i got some new (hair-)stuff and have completely forsaken my 'use up your stash' challenge :cheese:
First, i ordered a couple of EO/perfume oils online. I got vanilla, peach, peppermint(EO), eucalyptus(EO), mandarin (EO) and rose. I also got a little plastic jar, so i put some unscented coconut oil in and mixed it with some vanilla, peach and mandarin oil. So now i have a delicious smelling body/hair oil that's totally awesome, even though the smell doesn't last very long (doesn't bother me as it would attract bugs).
I also got a buy 2, get 1 free deal on some Dove nourishing oil care products. As you may or may not know, I've been trying out cones again to see how they work for me after learning so much on LHC. I got the dayly intensive conditioner (so not the regular conditioner) and the hair mask in a jar. I haven't tried them yet, but i will soon :cheese:
Also, my Flexi8's have shipped so I will be expecting them in a couple of weeks or so!
I hope this thread will come back to life now, i just love reading all of your hair adventures :D

Awww. I won't reach my goal of BSL by the end of the year.
According to that excel chart, I should be at APL in a month and BSL in about 9 months. Interesting. :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Mine says I'm 27 days out from APL and 8 months 2 days from BSL. :(

What is this excel chart that I'm missing out on. I don't know if i'll qualify because I have a weird growth pattern. It goes like this- no growth to big bang growth spurt. LOL

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've been growing my hair out since June of last year when I lobbed it off from APL to chin, dreadful. I hoped my hair would be strait, yeah right. Okay evidently my ends still flip in opposite directions-especially if the weight isn't there. So now I'm trying to reach TB overall but APL is what I want for my birthday! It has two months give or take a couple days, maybe I can make it! My current routine is wash every 2 days-not very faithfully-with J.R. Ligget's shampoo bar and follow up with white rain conditioner because it's cone free. I take folic acid and biotin-again unfaithfully-in the hopes that it will *kind-of-not-really* help.. And I use a wide tooth comb that needs to be sanded and a double sided BB brush, for my brushing and detangling needs. It's just to the fold of my armpits when wet, but pulls up about a half inch as it dries. I wouldn't consider myself to be at soild APL until my hair stays, when dry, below the little arm fold line thingy. maybe soon! End of July please, it would be a wonderful b-day present-self.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!

Oh bunnysaur, sigh, I'll be in here awhile and with you because I want APL hair when it's dry. Hmm maybe your hair is shrinking up a little to prepare for a very big growth spurt? I sometimes feel like my hair doesn't grow or it looks shorter, and then bam! Big growth spurt!

I sure hope so. I've been spending a lot of time in the sun and generally eating healthier/more protein and stuff that hair supposedly likes, so maybe that's the case.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Finally reached APL when wet today.http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...iend/g4442.gif Today was my third wash for this week and its been consistently the same at APL. I know my own hair best, which is why noticed I've been able to lately transition to wearing only one hair stick comfortably(holds all day with a tight cinnabun) as opposed to needing extra supports that forks and antlers provide( I'll continue to wear them of course), goodies to share with you all after Bunnysaur and ravenHeather showcase their toys! I'm claiming title also for the fact that i can already do a nautilus bun with my half updos as shown earlier, i can do cinnabuns comfortably and now i can do high cinnabuns. I will remain here until my hair is apl when dry- which I've also roughly estimate my hair will be at APL+ closer to BSL when wet by the time that happens. My participation now will be to cheer you all and give support. Cheers!
P.S I would share pics but my boo has been away on a business trip. He's my photographer for my towel test.

I know what you mean. I looked at my hair the other day and thought "what the?!". I could have sworn I was almost there! Right the moment it looks like I've still got two good inches left to go.

Hi, Choicely, welcome! I notice that you have your hair listed in your profile as 1b, but if you have flippy-flippy ends that drive you nuts at chin, have you considered that you might be a 1c or even 2a? Do you ever have frizz issues? It might be interesting to post a hair typing photo and get feedback from other members. Here's an article with info on how to get a hair typing photo that reflects your natural wave pattern. I do take issue with the article on one thing though -- I recommend detangling thoroughly before the shower and then not combing conditioner through but rather scrunching it in. While I normally finger-comb conditioner through, even that small amount of finger-combing is enough to pull a noticeable amount of the natural wave out for me. And at the end, gently blot/scrunch your hair, rather then using a wringing motion to get water out before you exit the shower.
Anyway, I just bring this up because it seems like hair typing is way more confusing for people who fall between 1c and 2b than it is for people elsewhere on the spectrum. Our hair is pretty changeable, and is often easily mistaken for "difficult" straight hair.
Again, welcome aboard! :cheese:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I need some help with hairsticks! I just got a message back from Nightblooming (about the color-changing sticks remember?) and she's more than happy to make a pair for me as well :D
Now i don't want to change anything about the sticks, i think they're pretty unique as they are, but she did ask me for usable length
What usable length should i ask for? I have a 60th street fork with 3,5" usable length (if i measured correctly), and a 5" ketylo which is just long enough. I want the hairsticks to be mine for a long time yet, so would 5" usable length be long enough?
It is a pair of sticks, so i guess they'll be more secure than just one stick, even if they're shorter.
Thanks you guys! :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Tonight I'm really frustrated. I know my hair keeps growing, and it is a lovely color, and healthy and thick too, so the cut was fine, and I needed it. But at the same time, this month last year I still had my hip length hair. I did abuse bleach and everything, and I should have just maintained it, but I don't have the patience for that.
It is just very frustrating to not be able to play with my own long hair, and my clip in extensions feel very foreign in my head, even if they look great.
My mother also chopped her waist length hair to just below shoulders. She's very happy and I'm happy for her too, but whyyyy.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Do you mean the entire hairstick or the usable length? Because the hairsticks i'm looking at have a decoration at the top, so you can't put the entire stick in. I do think that maybe a longer usable length would be better, about 6" maybe? So i can still use it when my hair is (much) longer :D

Oops, I should have mentioned that mine are just wooden sticks :p no decorations, so the functional length is 6".

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Great, thanks :D Do you think you'll be able to use the 6" sticks even when your hair is waistlength or something? I really want to be able to use them for a long time, or else it's kind of a waste of money :(

Probably. I think they'll work better as my hair gets longer, and as it is I have a good inch of stick on each side of my bun.

It should be plenty long enough, I had 7" hair sticks when my hair was waist length and I had a ton of room, and my hair was very thick then.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Great, thanks :D I think i'll choose between 5,5" or 6". 6" to grow into, or 5,5" because i don't really like long ends of sticks sticking out of my hair..

p.s. thanks for getting this party re-started :D
