*big hugs* Soon enough you will have the length for it, hang in there. :)

So....here's my growth for the past month. The pictures are not framed exactly the same way every time, and I alternate my part between left, middle, and right, so the layers fall differently in back from pic to pic, but I try to brush it as smoothly as possible:

Sure! :) It involves a lot of protein, which is the basic building block of hair. This can include egg, chicken, fish. Iron from wholemeal breads, pasta and such. Plenty of fruits and vegetables and plenty of water! You can have a look at this website:
http://www.healthyfood.co.nz/article...hair-and-nails
At the end it even has a meal planned for what to eat for breakast, lunch, dinner and in-between. If you follow it it , it will be very good for your body and you can mix it up if you want. :)
Have you tried Aloe Vera gel? I read somewhere (a couple somewheres actually) that you can use it like gel and then scrunch out the crunch.
Would that be natural enough for you right now? I thought I would throw it out there in case you hadn't heard about it.
This thread is so addicting! I keep checking it instead of doing my physics and chemistry study. :'(
Wow, so many new people! Hello all!
I finally couldn't take the million layers anymore and today I did a big cut. Ok. Big for me. I thought micro trimming would be enough, but I just hated my ends soooo much. I took off a bit over 2 inches! *gasp* Now, I can't use my hairsticks at all. pout. But, the ends are better... and to be honest, I could cut that much again before my hair would be anywhere close to a blunt hairline. Still, my hair feels so short now, even if it is still past shoulder.
sigh
It needed to be done. I still hated doing it.
Hey everyone!
I don't read here for a few days, and so many newbies, great!!! Welcome everybody!
If I keep my wave up, I'll be here for a while longer, I noticed that my length goes up again :p Well, at least I've come to peace with the fact that I'm a wavy girl, and I've had comments from friends and colleagues that I have the perfect beach hair :D
Already looking forward to Treatment Tuesday tomorrow, I think I'm going to soak my hair in EVOO overnight...
And another question for the Europeans here that are familiar with Gliss Kur from Schwarzkopf. It says on the jar: liquid keratin, it's in most of their products. Can I consider these as protein treatments? Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm new to this whole protein-thing...
carolinaberry, great growth!! I think I'll start taking more regular length pictures. I have no clue at all as to how fast my hair grows. The layers around my face don't seem to be growing at all :(. Not sure if they are so fragile that they just simply break off. I don't think they are all that damaged...
Katleen, I definitely envy your beach waves!! :D
When I tried plopping the other day I actually used a bit of aloe vera gel - thanks for the people who suggested that :flower: - but not a whole lot. Maybe I'll try again next time and use a bit more. It didn't really seem to do anything (positive or negative) to my hair. I only occasionally use it to smooth frizz...
What do you guys do when you're having several bad hair days in a row and you can't stop yourself from taking the scissors and going nuts on your hair?
Thirstylocks, put your hair in a bun and ignore it for two weeks or even longer if possible.
I did a 100-day challenge of putting my hair up, a while ago, and seriously, it helps! You get some growth, and don't have to think about how it looks. I used this time to nurse it back to a decent moisture level...
ARGH!
I am already regretting the 2 inch cut I did yesterday. I can't do any of my go to up-styles! Nothing is holding. I really don't want to go back to just claw clips again. whine.
Here is to hoping for a springtime hair growth spurt.
ETA: So, Thirstylocks, don't do what I did! Put it up!
Boy, do I know how you feel!! Been feeling like this for around a week or so now. Trust me, put it up and forget about it!
Im doing a 4 month wear my hair up challenge! I strongly suggest you join us! :D
Im doing it for many reasons: Firstly, to stop myself from hacking it all off to my shoulders to get rid of layers and also so I don't notice how thin it is (layers don't help) and for bad hair days. At the moment my hair seems to be getting shorter rather than longer even though I do know it is growing.
You are definitely not alone in this! The best thing to do is to put it up! I have found having hairtoys and discovering new hair styles that I can do to be very encouraging for me not to hack it off again.
Hang in there :blossom:
Okay, I'll put it up !!!
Honestly, anytime my hands aren't busy, they immediately go to my hair and I just spend hours playing with my bleached ends and trying to figure out how much more I have left to trim/how much would be okay to microtrim by myself that day. Its like a compulsion! I hate the way I look with my hair up but maybe I'll start with mini-challenges (even wearing my hair up for a week is going to be so hard for me!)
Thirstylocks, see it as a time to experiment with different updo-styles. Don't think about it as a punishment...
If you keep your hands out of your hair for 30 days, it becomes a habit :-)

So close and yet so far away!
Guysssss, does your hair look way shorter in the front than it does at the back?
Since taking progress pictures I've noticed that my hair looks almost APL from the back,
but I have like 3" before it meets APL in the front. Is this a layer issue? Or... normal?
I guess I've never figured it out because almost everyone only posts back pictures. :)
@Iloveyou- Your hair looks GREAT :)
@millyaulait My hair has been growing out layers for years -___- and yes, the front is still shorter than the back! I've accepted it as a fact of life by now.
So I just wanted to share this with you all - after many weeks of trying with my short hair, I FINALLY (mostly) was able to do a french braid!!! XD http://oi44.tinypic.com/m7drc.jpg
I've been constantly playing with my new hair sticks trying to make a bun that stays for like 2 days straight. I just put them away and I'm not going to get them out again until my next towel test, hopefully then I'll have enough length!
My hair looks shorter in the front too, but that's probably due to my crazy layers.
thirstylocks, lovely braid!!
ILoveYou-., beautiful hair!! :toast:
I'm kind of having a hard time getting over the fact that you guys are wearing sticks! I'm obviously totally stick challenged as I can't get them to hold for more than 5 seconds max. I also tried with a thicker pen (instead of the thin chopsticks) but if anything this seemed even worse.
piratejenny, I can use a pair of acrylic sticks (barely), but they're a bit on the thin side. I just got a LadyIdun stick in the post today, and it's much thicker....and holds much better! (Although I should point out that my shortest layers won't curl around the bun nicely, but luckily it looks like it's supposed to be like that :p )
I'd suggest trying something thicker than even a pen, if you have it? :flower:
piratejenny, when I first tried to use sticks I tried pencils, pens, chopsticks..
Nothing really held until I got myself a nice acrylic hairstick.
I started with a Ketylo, the slightly wavey nature of it really helped me along, then I moved to straight ones.
I would honestly recommend a Ketylo to all people who are starting out with sticks because they were like a revelation for me. :)
And for anyone wanting to try out using sticks for maybe the first time, I'd love to just share this video with you all.
This was the first hairstick style I could do that actually stayed secure and kept all my hair in (once I got the hang of it and did it correctly! :p).
In fact, I still use it all the time because it's *so* easy and stays secure even in my super slippery, fine hair (wet, oiled, or dry!).
I hope it works for anyone, old or new... :) >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roL-8kqQXOw <<
Thanks for the video, millyaulait!
Thanks guys :) By the way, what does "SMT" stand for? I still have to learn all these terms!
My front is always shorter. Because of layers and the fact I play with my hair (particularily on the left side, so its always a bit shorter than the right). I've been trying to stop playing with it, but since I cut back to shoulder and had to have shorter layers cut in the front pieces don't stay back and I catch myself all the time.
Question, does anyone use a ficcare yet?
ETA: I'm trying to figure out what size I should use. :o
I have a medium sized Ficcare Maxima Classic and it is big enough, but the fakkare I have from walgreens works much better, it doesn't pull my hair or hurt my scalp, or slip. *shurg*
This is also a good alternative.
ETA: This is the thread that inspired me to find a fakkare: I need a Fake-karre.
Yesterday i just bought af few things for my hair. I went to buy nailpolish (i've been craving a lovely peachy colour from Essie for weeks!), and ended up in the hairstuff department of the store too. Among other things i bought one of those thingies to make a sockbun - it looks a bit like a very coarse, round sponge with a holde in the middle:p I Can't wait to try it out. I'm just a little afraid, that i should have bought the small one, and not the bigger one - but i wanted a big bun... Guess i'll find out later when i'll try to make that sockless sockbun;) I'm so exited my hair is finally comming to a length, where i can put it up without hair sticking out everywhere!
^^
Hey guys, I'm looking for a verdict. I think the left hand side of my hair has finally reached APL. What do you think?
Linking as it's a large picture :D

Yup, I've been using a Ficarre for a couple months now, and I LOVE it! I am using a medium maximus for my french twist. I'm hoping it holds me over for another year or even two before I need to upgrade to a large, but we'll see, I might need to get a large for doing a cinnabun once I can manage those! I have a fakkare too, and while lovely and strong, it can't handle all my hair anymore. *pouts*
Thanks for the responses about the ficcares! Looks like a medium is the right size. :)
