Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just made a cinnabun divided in sections. It's a lot easier and more secure for me. I also added pictures and dropped the tip in this hairstyle thread. It's an useful thread for people our length. :) Just wanted to leave the link in case some people haven't seen it yet.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I’m currently making my way through the coldest part of winter- I’ve experienced what appears to be very slow growth lately. When measuring dry I’ve been 21 inches for months!! When measuring damp I’m almost at 22 and my progress pics are showing some gain in length. Its really strange. Anyways, I’m back on the hair, skin, and nails supplements. Just a couple more months and it will be spring! With the help of the supplements I’m hoping for some obvious growth all round in the warmer months.

That's really pretty. I still can't manage updos at all because of my layers. I'm too attached to them to let them grow out at this point. I feel like my hair looks funny without them. My shortest layer just reaches the bottom of my earlobes. A few more inches and maybe I can manage something presentable.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair is almost APL, but it's in desperate need of a trim as the ends are getting straggly, and not quite long enough for me to manage Feye's technique yet, so I'm nervously going to the hairdressers tomorrow and hoping they listen when I tell them not to take too much off!

Thank you! :) I have layers too, by choice now. Maybe later when my hair won't pouf so much I'll cut them.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair is a good four or five inches down my back, but when i pull it over my shoulders, it's just passed collarbone! So annoying! And the front "bangs" are like two inches passed chin at the shortest. ARGGHGHGHGH!!!!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've found that I’ve gained enough length for a new doo (after that rant before). Its simply a braid wrapped around itself. (its a little off center )

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Kris, I'm right there with you. I'm so close I can't hardly stand it--but only when my hair lies straightish, lol. I'll take it! I'm determined not to trim for a bit, as I'm thinking maybe August, (but probably October, knowing me.) Are we anywhere near each other? Hope the trim went well
If I hold my neck juuuuust right, I'm at APL right now.
LOL
Of course I look rather silly when I do this neck thing, I should mention

I'm feeling you on the literally no growth in the colder months. For me it even works like that in the summer if the weather is bad. The weather has been awful recently and I haven't been out much and my hair has literally stopped growing. I don't understand why but sun exposure and warmth make my hair grow like weeds.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Spring to late summer is a fab growing time for me, put my hair over the front of my shoulders and longest lengths are touching APL!(put pics up this am) The rest will catch up soon enough im sure;) My nails have been growing like mad lately! Lovely summer growth spurt, oh and the scissors will be kept at bay for a good while!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
So happy I found this thread! I made it to shoulder length back in April or May and hope to make APL around this time next year. I'm banning myself from doing length checks until at least September because it has become excessive. I know my hair is growing but I swear it is in the same spot it was back in May.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Way to go, Kathie! Braided buns are my favorite. I tried to do that but my braid isn't long enough. But you inspired me to make the braid, at least! I think the braid itself looked cute enough, so many thanks! :)

That braid looks awsome- you have such thick hair! I curse now but a blessing later.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I measured dry today- and I'm at 22" When I'm at 23" I'll be past APL for sure, so not too long now :D
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Checking in. I have roughly half an inch to reach APL on my longest layers. I'm so stoked!!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I can't stand it- I'm so close its painful. I'm always checking after every wash to see if its past APL yet. I was in no way checking my hair this much when I had three inches or so to get there. I just want to reach APL so I can move on :justy:
So I've decided not to check my length again until the end of August. Except for my usual photo at the start of the month I vow not to take any more pics, keep the measuring tape in the draw, no sideways glances at my hair to see how far its reaching down my back, and no picking up the hand mirror to view the back of my head when my hair is down.

My hair is right at the edge of APL. This picture makes it look like my longest hairs are APL. But I did the "towel trick" and asked my sweetie if my hair was touching it and he said it was less than a half inch away but not quite there. :excited:
For more progress pics...

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm jealous of all of those who are so close! Way to grow guys! :D
Me on the other hand.....unless I measured wrong, I only got 1/2 an inch this past month!!!!!!! I normally get ~1 inch! That is with rooibos, green magma, careful s&ding, and overall healthy eating.....what the heck, hair?! I might have measured wrong (my "measuring mirror" fell off the wall and shattered so now I have changed my measuring methods).

Speaking from experience, it's really easy to be off by a half inch, especially if you changed your measuring method. Let's hope that you did grow that inch!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I trimmed my hair yesterday. The ends were annoying me. I don't think I took off too much and it looks and feels better. I guess I will always be a bit of a compulsive trimmer.

Don't fret too much, 1/2 inch is normal growth really. A whole inch is exceptional! Maybe your hair was just taking a little pause last month. The thing to remember is it did grow! And all growth is good. :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm just at shoulder length, so this is going to be a long process for me. (the back is below shoulder, the front is above, so I'm going to let them cancel each other out!)
I can't wait for APL. My hair seems thinner than it actually is because of my layers. I plan on keeping it layered when it's long, but seeing what a difference the layers make I might be persuaded to grow it out to one length!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Phew! Finally finished reading through all 183 pages xD
I'm finally joining :) btw my length status Thingy is totally not updated at all so ignore that :) I'm grazing shoulder. Keeping the fingers crossed, and looking forward to growing together ^_^

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have a picture for Lianna - it's the loop bun you taught me about. My hair is finally long enough to do it ... I like it! :)
(This is the one where I make a ponytail and don't pull the last loop completely through, then I spread the loop with my fingers and put a hairstick through it.)
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ctureid=108557
It's like the perfect messy bun for left-brained people... :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've been for my trim and it's about an inch and a half shorter but looks a bit tidier now. My haidresser reckons I should maintain at this length for a while until it's in better condition and she's probably right. :( Being ill last year has really taken it's toll on my hair. :(

Its nice to give your hair a good start when growing out- so I agree its good to sometimes maintain a length for while before really starting to grow again.
I've been between SL and APL for almost 1.5 years because I've been trimming away at my ends- as much as I hate that I've been here for ages- my hair was dark red and then bleached to a very light blond so most of that hair had to go.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I finally feel like I belong in this group. My hair is *just* long enough that some of the longest strands will stay behind my shoulders when I put them there.
I'm very excited by the chance to do more hairstyles. I can do a single french-braid which I have to tie off at the nape or it unravels due to layers, but at least it's neat and out of the way. Today I was able to twist my hair into a messy cinna-bun wanna-be type thing and it stayed up for over 8 hours with a 3 prong fork!!! :cheese:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm loving summer and so's my hair!!! I've had a couple of great growth spurts since my late May/early June stall. I'm soooo close to APL, I think I may actually be there by end of summer or by September.
Thing is, I'm so bad at measuring. It's easier to measure my hair length I think, but measuring my body landmarks (armpits, bra strap, waist) gives me different numbers every time, I don't understand why. Are we supposed to measure from the top of our heads or the front of our hairline?
Anyway, my hair is now about 23" and I had originally measured APL to be 21", but I'm not there yet, so obviously that was off. Today, I measured APL at 26", bra strap at about 34 or 35" and waist at almost 40!! Does that makes sense? I'm 5'7".
I'm happy with my progress though because I trimmed in April and started documenting my hair growth at 17" with barely-touching shoulders hair, with the front just past chin. I've grown from 17" to 23, so 6 inches in less than 4 months. That's pretty awesome, eh?!
So anyway, here's some progress pics, the latest with straightened hair (I had a wedding, people, calm down)!

Wow, you've certainly had some great growth:D You look to be almost at apl.
Oh yes and you measure from the font of your hairline and over your head:D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks pixiestar!
I've been measuring from the front of my hairline so at least I got that right!

Wow, I must be totally measuring my hair wrong! I'm 5'8" and only measured length to my waist to be about 31". Hmmm,,,back to the drawing board! :o

Yes I really want to do this properly for once. The only solution is to get DH to measure me and suffer the teasing...
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
*sigh* just turning up to have a wee whinge. I just cut my horrible POB layers for the first time to even them up and have lost over 2 inches in front and nearly 1 in the back.
Granted it looks much prettier and I havent actually needed to brush it at all since, as it only seems to knot a tiny bit at my nape. So that's good, but now I'm at 19 inches instead of 21.5 I'm sad :(
And APL is still a mile away! (Well about 3 inches maybe.) But it looks like my goal of APL in 2011 is probably not possible.
And waist for me is 36 inches so that by 2013 is Sooo not happening!

LOL. I'll probably have to do that. Heck, DH already thinks I'm nuts with all the recent "stuff" I've been putting on my hair. Honey? Coconut Oil? Castor Oil? LOL

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I definitely needed help from my bf for measuring where different hair lengths sit on me, the results were really different from doing it myself!
It's funny how everyone has different inch measurements, even when you're the same height.
I'm 5' 7 1/2'' and APL is 24, BSL 28, and waist 35. I have a long neck and big head but quite a short torso I guess.
