Not sure if you were replying to me or not, but once I start trimming, I will plan to have my shortest layer around chin length.

I have cut these in the past. I think they look great! Especially if there is some layering in the rest of the hair too.
This time around I'm going all natural for a while... just letting it grow and naturally fairytale *fingers crossed*.

Good luck! I'm hoping to not cut mine either, embrace the mullet layers I'm after speed over neatness this time around

Lucky for you mullets are not seen as ugly anymore so you growing yours out might even look intentional.

I didn't, but maybe it's because I don't like them myself. I should have seen them coming since trends come, go, and eventually come back again (can we please get some victorian trends back?) and maybe the mullet trend was long overdue for a new revival.

Yeah I understand why people wouldn't like them - it's kind of like facial peircings, which I think most people probably aren't a fan of - I don't have any, but I definitely admire them on others. I think the mullet can look kind of punk rock, but not in an obnoxious overstyled way like liberty spikes. Kinda has a wash-and-go, low maintenance look, yet still seems a little counterculture in a cool way.
I think this might be the most I've ever considered mullets before. I think honestly the reason they are cooler now is people have figured out how to make them look cooler than they did in 90s flicks, which admittedly still look pretty dopey to me, haha.
I think this is a good example of a nicer one: https://ath2.unileverservices.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2016/05/layered-mullet-andy_doesyourhair.jpg

I've had one but it didn't suit me at all so that's gonna be fun when I enter the mullet stage of the growing out process

Wolf cut Is pretty much a new version of the shag/mullet

That one I like. Wouldn't get one ever though because of a rather nasty cowlick up front. Same reason I wouldn't even consider curtain bangs.

Those damn cowlicks haha, I have one at the front it makes having straight across bangs difficult
Wolf cuts look better on hair with 1c plus hair type over straight I think it would look shredded with dead straight hair

Yeah, I have three: one where all of my hair in the front grows towards the right, one where my left side goes a bit too high up and a second whirl at the back of my head. In other words, bangs and inbetween lengths will always look terrible on me.
I don't feel that wolf cuts look shredded with pinstraight hair. I see it a lot on asian people and they look good. You just need the right face for one.

I see what you are saying but Asian hair is coarse, on fine 1a hair it might look odd

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks to everyone who welcomed me. I haven't been able to access LHC for over a week and I don't know why. It doesn't seem like it was down for anyone else.
Anyway this mullet discussion is right down my alley because that's exactly the phase I'm in right now! I've watched so many youtube videos on growing out short hair, and with the exception of 1, every single person is basically saying that trimming the mullet is mandatory.
And I really, really don't want to trim and throw away my progress. I'm getting closer to being able to ponytail it, and a trim would set me way back. My normal style right now is half up, and you can't even tell there's anything mullety going on with my hair when it's styled that way.
Also I just learned about the wolf cut, and when I looked at pictures I realized that's basically what I have right now!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Oh yeah, and I still haven't mastered the art of quoting or replying to multiple posts at once, so that's why the general reply.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ylva, would you be willing to tell me where in ii you are?
I'm encouraged by seeing a 2a at truly long lengths because I feel like I can never even get to BSL. I'm a low ii; 2.25" circumference on a good day. A high ii, like 3.5", is so very different.

Sure thing! I was at 3.15" when I last measured my ponytail circumference. That was before I started growing out my natural hair, so I don't know how it's looking now, but it's not significantly thicker at least.
2.25" is not a particularly small ponytail circumference at all, in my view! In my country, it's not uncommon to see ponytails the thickness of a pencil, and I've seen them at APL or so at least.

Aaahhh but I like to lurk here!! :) Honestly, I've been having some shoulder to APL envy myself lately. Just a couple of nights ago, I had a dream where 0xalis cut my hair (in a Dressman store of all places - a men's clothing store operating mostly in the Nordics and a few other European countries) to waist, but it was supposed to be CBL. I was secretly disappointed that I retained that much length as I would've liked to experience shorter hair for a change. I long for the ease and I can only imagine how nicely my wurls would come out at that length!

You needn't be worried - I need my hair for epic headbanging, but sometimes, I just have to fantasize about such things!

I like to read most threads, including lengths/methods etc. that don't concern me, just for fun. :)

Thank you! Yes, I'm glad it's in style, I just wish I didn't hate the look so much on myself! My hope is that if I avoid trimming, my hair will eventually look like it has normal layers once it gets longer. For the time being, I try to disguise the shorter layers with styles like half-up.

true! It's good you are keeping it long even though watching dye being cut out of hair is oddly satisfying to watch haha

You got this! It will, just have to play the long game and think of the goal
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
The discussion from a few days ago really made me consider a wolf cut, but I don't know if it's a good idea. For one, the aforementioned cowlicks might make it too messy and annoying when down. Second, I don't think it would suit my face. Lastly I need to put my hair up for work and I don't know if that would be possible with the shorter layers.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Wolf cuts seem to have shorter bangs and you did chop off the mullet part to have even hair right? I'd check your older photos back at that stage because that is basically a wolf cut
Of course hair grows back if you decide to try it out

My growth has currently slowed considerably (I think due to my pregnancy), it'll be interesting to see if it picks up after the baby's born.
I'm trying benign neglect, I don't have a set routine aside from washing and conditioning. I've played around with Mega Tek to rather mixed results. It seems to boost my growth a bit for a few weeks, then the results taper off and I go back to slow growth. I've had a lot of trims this year (3 since January), which has definitely had an effect on my growth rate, but I'm so prone to splits that I kind of have to get 1/4 inch or so trimmed off every 3-4 months.
Good luck to all those in the "shoulder to APL" club!!
Hi! I'm also pregnant right now, is that known to slow down hair growth? I haven't heard that before, but I do know that it can reduce shedding (sorry, I don't know the science behind it). A few months after birth I always get major shedding that sort of puts me back at the thickness I had before pregnancy.
Have you tried the inversion method? I'm doing kind of a modified version of it that just involves scalp massage because I don't love the idea of inverting myself, lol. If I don't get results then I'll probably do it the "proper" way. Anyway, good luck!

In that case I know enough, I hated how that looked on me.

It would be a bit more styled but I'd say it's essentially the same

Yay, I got onto the forum! It takes dedication to make it on here, and if the server is busy I often forget to check back in.
Well, I took my length picture for December and I have now reached 24 inches. None of my towel pics worked out (those pictures are hard to take!) but my hair definitely reaches the towel and when straight comes over it just a bit now. I may try for a better towel picture later. In the past, my hair at 24 inches has been APL dry. I'm still hesitant to call it though.

Looking so good! You can call it now if you want but I'm on the slower side to call it too. It needs to be super obvious and reach a milestone at its fluffiest for me to call one.
