That does sound cute :) Do you happen to have any pictures? ;)
Yay for other people noticing it's getting long! I don't have any pics but next time I do it, I will try to remember to take one.

I do the same or sometimes I pin it in place with bobby pins -- surprisingly they don't pull or poke! I like the braiding idea too.

Please do!
And yes, that's nice! Most of my friends know me with a super-short, platinum pixie so everything longer than chin-length is LONG for them (well, on me that is).
So funny!
I've been watching tutorials for sock buns and one said 'for short hair!!' and the girl has about collarbone-length hair (like mine) and there are soooo many comments that say something like 'whaaat, that's no way short hair!! If that's short hair than I am BALD', which is hilarious :P

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Almost! If it weren't for scissor happy hair person I'd be at APL:rolleyes: But then... He did it for me, so I can stay with you ladies for a little longer!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
You might not be to APL yet but your ends look great, NoRush!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Lovely hair NoRush! My hair is about the same length as yours atm. Excited to see my hair growth by the end of next month.
Decided once I am solid APL I am going to add in some subtle long layers and a side fringe. Otherwise I will get frustrated with my hair and cut!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I agree, it looks really good!! And you'll be at APL in no time :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Wow nearly there NoRush :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I concur, beautiful ends, beautiful hair, and almost there!

It might seem like so little to you guys, but I had been looking for them for a year!!! ;)
ETA: BTW thank you ladies :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Can I join? I was growing out damaged hair, but I went in a pool and the chemicals were just too much for it and I lost a big chunk. So just before Christmas I decided to give in to the inevitable and cut it off. I have a bob that reaches the base of my neck. It's not quite to shoulder yet, but almost!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Welcome Sunlightshines! Sorry to hear about you losing some of your hair but what remains looks so healthy and thick! I did the same thing; when I ditched the hair dye, I kept my hair super short until it was all gone. It feels great to have a fresh start.

I just started using these and they are fab!!
*sigh* I've reached the dreaded triangle stage. The curls are getting curlier and so the ends of my hair stick way out. My hair is very fine and any amount of leave in weighs the strands down and pulls the curls straight at the roots, which is no more attractive  so I guess I'll be wearing my hair up a lot now.

Thank you! That's exactly how I feel! Like I have a fresh start. I still have a couple areas with damage but that will be trimmed out over time and I'm good with it! Healthy is my first goal! :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
This morning, when I looked in the mirror, my first thought was that my hair looks like every other Mom in the county.
Note to self: "Self, you are making progress from that adorable pixie last winter."

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
On another note do any of you have any favorite you tube vids or people for our current length? I drool over several fellow lch people but all of them have such long hair! The care and other tips are fabu but most of the styles are well out of my reach and a lot of the shorter or medium length vids start with things like heat or hair spray which are big no nos for my hair. I am at collar bone now by the way, I can do a couple of half up buns, French braids, ponies and sock buns.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm not sure if I'm posting this right, but... I thought maybe you would like to try the Gibson Tuck. Lilith Moon has a great tutorial/video on how to create it.

She is actually one of my newest additions to my subscriptions! I have been you tubing all day and finally found her! Thanks loads!

I have felt the same frustration: just on the cusp of being able to do some cool updos, but can't quite get them to stay. My hair is very slippery, so French braids still slide out. I have Gibson tucked my whole head for church--one in the back and one on each side because the sides are too short to reach the back--, and pin curled for variety.

Oh my gosh that is lovely!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I still can't get the hang of pin curls!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Practice, practice, practice. They are a pain but on my hair I can get Temple's springy curls for a day. I figure everything we learn now while our hair is short will be easier when it is long. I still can't get a crown braid to go all the way around my head yet so this week I am trying every other day till I get my aha moment.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
@ SerinaDaith: Let me know how that crown braid goes! I can go from one ear to the other, but have some fumble fingers when I need to reposition my hands near the top of my head. I can't imagine going around the back, and was planning to wait a couple of more months for some length before I give it a try. I await your update :)
@Joflakes: I'm not skilled, just stubborn. Work at it until you get it. You can click through the flickr thing to see the set I slept in and how it looks from the back after a good brush out. I wear the set for 2 or 3 days--until my scalp gets itchy! Day 1 = Marilyn Monroe, day 2 = Jackie O, day 3 = victory rolls or other updo.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It shall be done since it is one of the styles I want to incorporate into my go to styles! I may really need a bit more length as well but I figure practicing he turns and teaching myself to curve now isn't bad.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ooooh, that's lovely BrownEyedSusan!
Thanks for the YT video, SunlightShines. I did something like that once and really liked it... and then forgot all about it! Thanks for the reminder. I should probably jot these styles down so I actually use them.
I am in the process of putting together a personal cookbook and I've even made entries for the easiest "recipes" that don't even need a recipe, just so I am reminded to put it in the rotation. I should do the same with hairstyles :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
thanks, guys!
A notebook for hairstyles = brilliant! What a great idea! I'm doing that!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have a YouTube playlist of all the hair tricks I want to try as my hair gets long enough. My only problem with this is that I'm getting so impatient for my hair to be long enough to do it all! At least having found the LHC I know that, even if it feels like it's taking longer than ever before, I will have a much healthier head of hair when I figure out where I want to stop growing.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks for all your words of encouragement, guys! I'll try it out again soon. =)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
What a great idea! I think I'll make a notebook of hairstyles too! I also need to spend some time trying to teach myself how to braid. I usually start out good & then I loose track of what I'm doing and make a mess of it. It doesn't help that my hair is really thin and slips out of place....but I will keep trying until I get it. :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Do you mind if I join? I was in the APL to BSL thread, but during this last LHC outage I had to trim off about 4 inches.

Great! Then we can compare notes :writer: I have the same problem with braids and really should practice while its shorter...
Welcome, LuckyLurker-- sorry you had to trim back so much :(

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have pics in one e-mail account and pinterest for style ideas, I guess those are my notebooks.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hello everyone, I guess I can join here now... I have just about reached shoulder length. I have had really short hair forever and am growing out from a pixie. Now that I have reached shoulder I might have to stay here for a while and get my thin lengths to thicken up some. In the last few months I have realized that my hair is too thin and fragile to highlight it to super blonde and let hair grow at the same time. So now I am trying to go more natural in order to have healthier hair. Right now I have started an experiment of washing with clay instead of harsh shampoo. Just to see what my hair looks like without all those cones and so far I am loving it. So I am wishing you all good luck growing...

My hair was quite layered, so it feels a little thin and doesn't hold a style easily. I am on the look out for nice styling ideas, too. I am mostly wearing ponytails, often with a french braid. At my last hairdresser session I had some z-shaped flatiron curls that I loved. But that is a style that I probably won't do often on my own, as it takes forever to do it and will most certainly ruin my hair with heat.

what kind of up-do are you using those spin-pins for? I think my hair is not quite long enough to do anything with those spinnies?!?!
