I'm guessing around January 1st I'll be there for sure. About 20 inches right now.
I cut few inches off, and I'm back to apl when dry a little past an inch when wet. I'll go back and forward until all my hair is one length. I think I'll be at bsl dry in march. happy growing!
I made a little dusting trim happen last night and it looks much much better on the ends and does not velcro anymore. I'm almost at APL and my ends reach about 1.5" below collar bone. Yay!! For some reason my hair started growing really fast again.
I'm gonna join you here now, so that I'll find the inspiration to actually make a serious attempt at growing my hair long. For such a long time I've had damage from bleach, heat and harsh chemicals, so I've basically been maintaining just below shoulders for like two years. But two months ago I think I finally cut off the last bits of bleached ends and my hair is starting to feel smooth and healthy again! yay :D I've also got a reason to why I used to shed SO much, and since I started with iron pills it's decreased dramatically. Now I'm hoping I'll get back some of the thickness I used to have many many years ago, before I started abuse both my hair and my body (with bad diet...).
Oh well, sorry for my ranting. I'm just finally seeing some hope for my hair and wanted to share it with someone :P
double post
Welcome to our crazy group! Good job getting all the damage out! It is a tough process.
Hurrah! I got another half an inch last month. I got H to measure it and he said "at least 20.5" so I'm very happy right now, looks like my stall was just an autumn thing after all. I must get some length shots uploaded now LHC seems to be back for good.
Wow! Are you a super fast grower or are you not very tall (or both)? I'm slightly longer than you at the moment (half an inch) and I'm looking at probably another six months before I hit APL. I have an average-slightly faster than average growth rate but I'm tall.

Nope not a super fast grower and not tall not short. 5'6".
ETA Added pix. I am sorry y'all. I have a hard time uploading photos with imageshack, but I've added these big ones to show where 20" is on me.
This next one is from a couple of weeks ago:

I'm in:) I just had a hair cut with layers (I like layers, they give my fine wavy hair volume) so my hair is about collarbone length. Like some other posters I'm having trouble finding good updos - as my hair gets oily fast I really need updos to be able to stretch washes a bit. So far I just did simple buns (mostly medium/high ones with soft scrunchies but I'd like to vary it a liiitle bit sometimes. My hair is very fine and soft so I think bobby pins are probably not very healthy for my hair (plus I'm not very good at using them). I also don't really use product in my hair (so far anyways). The tutorials I've found on the web usually include lots of teasing, product, bobby pins. Without those they don't stay/ look right. So, my questions are: Do/did you have the same or similar problem? What hair friendly shoulder length updos can you do? What hair toys are useful for you? Any place I can find tutorials? If this is "hi-jacking" I apologise and I can ask in the main forum, I just thought this topic may be of interest in this group:) Good luck to all of us with our growing:) to new beginnings
No this is not hijacking at all. Braiding styles may be helpful to you at this length. Also, Some of my first hair toys were flexi -8s and those really helped me to do some twist styles. I suggest spending some time going back through this thread a bit because some styles suitable for this length are shown here and there.
Am I at APL now? Am I? AM I? :cheese: I see some strands reaching my armpit line...
First picture, May 12th, second one today. On the first pic my head is a little bit higher than the second one and hence the flyaways, I love them. But... I'm there! That's the point!

I'm going to say "Well done" to myself. All the hard work has had good results.
Such a difference in hair condition, smoothness... I also love the reddish shade the henna gave me. LHC is the best thing that happened to my hair!
Perhaps I'm too much of a lurker, so I let you know now: Massive thanks. Thank you LHC! Thanks anyone in this thread for being an inspiration.
Up to the next goal!
Happy growing fellows!

So close. *sob* So close.
Wet, of course, since the curl eats up so much length. I can't wait to hit APL dry!!
SnowWhite, I'd say YES, due to the scientific method of holding my finger up to the screen. CONGRATS!!
edit:Holy huge picture, Batman! Sorry guys!
EXAMINES SCREEN MINUTELY AND - yes! I officially declare you to be APL! Well done! It's so exciting to reach a milestone!
SnowWhite, yes! I would say APL. This is really the most frustrating stage for me, especially when your hair is halfway between the two. Bah!
Wow! Congratulations!!!
Does anyone have experience growing out hair that has been thinned? I got my hair cut 2 weeks ago and am noticing just how much hair was cut out. Seriously, my ponytail is about half its previous size and I want to cry. I'm really worried that I'm going to have to focus on maintaining my current length (shoulder) and growing out the thin bits, which I really don't want to do. I want to gain length! On the plus side she did the thinning with scissors, not razors or shears, which I think is healthier. I'm worried that this cut has really set my goals back.
My hair was thinned when I last went to the salon to have it cut - last February. Cringe. I definitely regret it.
I can't really address the "thinned" part, I've never intentionally had mine thinned, but Hairdresser has "texturized" my pixie once or twice. Still, since I'm growing from a pixie, I sort of get it. I have lots of different lengths, and it looks pretty scraggly when I wear it loose. --One side of my front is longer than the other from the diagonal pixie bangs, and my old "earholes" were longer in front of my ears and shaved short above my ears, so they're raggedy. It does look decent from the back, though! LOL! My plan is to grow it out until it's more cooperative--I can get it up in a ponytail or frenchbraid. I'm waiting on those little ear shavings and my shaved nape to catch up, then it'll be easier to deal with. When I can work it all up into a few updos that'll stay put, I'll get the ends evened up a little. Right now I alternate between what updos I can manage: frenchbraid ear-to-ear across the top, half-up pony--with earflaps pinned up, Gibson tucks all around--see "shortie" thread, pin curl sets, twist and pin back the front.... (My half-up "bear cub ears" are about the size of a quarter, just saying. It's just because I've still got all these crazy lengths.) It will all catch up, and I'll have a skinny ponytail soon. Later, I'll have a fatter ponytail! I grow it because I deal with it longer better, and I've got a relaxed personality, so it doesn't bother me much. You might want to get it cut into a "style" while you wait? It will all catch up, just drink a little coffee, don't look at it too much, and by spring this will be a memory!
(my siggy shows the pixie after I'd been growing it for 8 weeks. I don't have a picture of when it was shortest.)
Mostly a lurker around the forum, but I want to throw in my two cents.
My hair is just about stretching to collarbone in the front, but the bits around my ears don't quite go into a ponytail. From front hairline to back length is about 18 inches, give or take 1/16.
I was at BSL until March 2011 when I needed a change, so I got a pixie and donated the length. Now slowly making my way back down there and hopefully past it. It's been a long almost two years of getting it evened back out slowly, but most of the bottom is within an inch or so of even, so I'm calling it even and collarbone length now. haha
My problem is, for all that my hair type is pretty much middle-of-the-road (1c/2a, ii, M), it seems very slippery. I still can't get a stick to stay in it (wood or metal, they just fall out within seconds of moving my head), and I have trouble keeping my arms above my head for French braiding or elaborate updos, so it's mainly been ponytails and half-buns (what I call a ponytail only pulled halfway through on the last pass) to keep it out of my way. I don't like how shoulder length looks down on me, especially with my fringe short or sweeping as it is now.
Fortunately, my hair has been growing like a weed lately (when I measured about 2 weeks ago I swore I was at 17.5!) but I've also been taking a B-complex for energy and trying to eat healthfully, and doing occasional henna treatments for colour and condition. I'm also lucky that I'm not prone to splits. Even before I got the pixie cut in, I hadn't trimmed in over a year and I'd only found two splits just before the cut. A microtrim every six or eight months will hopefully stop any splits before they start.
I think I'll be more comfortable wearing it down naturally when it hits APL, but it feels like a long journey yet to go. I'll probably end up hitting it just as we're going into summer and I'll want to keep it up off my neck all the time anyway! lol I suppose I just have to take the blessings I have with my hair and make it on through to APL when I can hopefully wear it down or at least use a stick or banana clip again properly.
My hair is apl but when it in the front it seems much shorter
I'd call it APL then!
I'll join, I'm definitely in the no man's land between shoulder and APL. I also have bangs/fringe that I have just started growing out which are almost to the tip of my nose, I keep those clipped back with snap clips or headbands.
Currently I've been oiling a lot, and tend to keep it all back in a ponytail or a scrunchie bun. I have flexi-8's that I need to try again, last time the side layers of my hair were still to short and kept flopping out of my flexi-8. My last trim/cut was a layered bob that removed the rest of my hendigo, that was in March. I've also gone through a few horrific sheds, so there are lots of crazy lengths going on in there. When my hair gets frizzy I can really get a haystack look going. When it's oiled and damp in the evening, I often pull it all back in a buff. Just lately here, within the past two weeks, I've started wearing it down more. Here is a picture I took today to use as my December signature pic.

Your hair is very pretty, Froglet! (I confess that the buzzed avatar scared me for a minute. I looked at your profile and am relieved that you're NOT recovering from chemo.) My hair is about the same length and slippery as the dickens. I've got the front twisted and pinned now, but it's slipping loose....
No, I'm so very thankful to have never had cancer, just a buzz to get rid of the hendigo. I know just what you mean by slippery hair, I must have to readjust and fix mine multiple times a day and that is without cones, with cones... hair toys just sliiide right out!
I have been looking for this thread for months! I have gotten past Apl and now I'm just past bsl :cheese:
uggghhhhh
got the boyfriend to check it today and apparently I'm "like a centimeter off" :( so painful!
Give it another month. Time and t.l.c. will get you where you want to go! Not that I don't have my own grow darn you grow moments.
There goes my New Years APL:demon: I went the get a trim today :brickwall... And OF COURSE instead of 1cm off the (%$(/£@ :hatchet: took off 2,5 :justy: And I didn't even need that much taken off, (I knew I soud have held out to go to my own hairdresser)
Sorry for the rant ladies, it makes me mad that they think they know best and disregard what one wants... Besides, if my hair needed further trimming I would have gone back a second time to get the rest of it off... :mad
On a brigher note, he cut some awesome bangs and I have found a super cheap, super nice deep conditoner (I'm a cone free gal btw) my hair seems to love :D
Ooooh I'm finally back!!! I couldn't reach LHC for months, weird... But now I finally could. I have had a "don't-care-about-the-hair-period" and it paid off... Now I really see a difference in my hair. It's not much longer but the quality is so much better! So happy. It's also time for my 1 year LHC anniversary any time soon, yay! I will post some pictures when I've taken some.
Happy growing everyone!!! ;)
I can finally join you all here again :D My hair is still in an inverted bob, so the front is more than two inches past my shoulders. The back is now a little past my shoulders. Woot!!
APL here I come:cheese:
I said I was going to maintain at collarbone once I reached it so I could let my layers catch up...now I'm there I can't decide whether to maintain or grow! I cut my fringe back in though, if there's one thing to stop me cutting the length it's that haha.
Just found a camera and did a length shot, oh boy I am still so very far from APL!
Here is the pic:

For comparison, a length shot from September 10:

It does look like it is growing, but so very slow. My ends also flick like crazy at this type of length it is so frustrating.
Anyone else suffering from crazy flicking? Any remedies against it?
Yup, I'm in the same boat! I think my hair is even shorter and it flips like crazy at well, very annoying!
I love your red hair! :D
Aww, I loved my flip! I miss it (kinda) :P I love your red theodora.
Theodora - looking good, I looove the colour! :crush:
I'm at CBL at the moment. Kinda having a while of ignoring it, mostly. I am HATING my face framing layers...the annoying thing is that I have one or two splits, which I know I should cut but I don't want to lose length so I haven't. Hmm.
I've also ombre-d my hair! I have natural roots, going to dark ginger and a little blonde tips. =)
I think I ended up with a bit of an angle when I got my last chop. I am about two inches off from APL in front but about three and a half inches off in back. Although when I pull my hair back it is all one length which I guess helps reduce taper when I braid. I had my towel on and my hair down for the first time in ages so I noticed the oddity today, seven months after the chop. I will still wait to call APL till I hit the back line but how oblivious am I to have not noticed till now? Especially with how hair obsessed I have been all this time!
