When sleeping I do two braids, one on each side of my head. It is much too short to do one solid braid down the back of my head just yet. During the day if I am home I wear it in a scrunchy all day. If I am out and about I use a claw clip to keep it up. Pretty soon here I will be able to use my ficarre while out and about but not just yet. I need a few more months of growth for it to hold really well.
What do you guys think is true APL? I know the towel trick which is perfect for determining APL in the back of your body but with how weird my hair has grown out from my big chop shave in April 2014, I know I will reach APL in the back way before I reach it in the front of my body, if that makes sense.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I haven't been on in a while. Finally reached my towel! Yay! But I think I will hang around here a bit longer. I'm going to micr trim in March. Then I will see How it measures up.:joy:
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I began to exercise for the New Year. I was washing my hair 2x per week and not experiencing too much grease, but now that I"m exercising my hair gets greasy so much faster and it's nasty if I don't wash every other day, even if I wash with water only to get the sweat off. Any suggestions from people who have had this experience? Is washing every other day ok?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I haven't been on lhc for months....ignoring my hair really is the best way for me. So I've reached APL and am on to BSL. Natural color is about chin level now, and I actually hate it.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm trying to reach Apl currently just below Sl. I was around Apl before I had my hair cut the other day as it needed it. I would love to get back to nearly waist length which I was a few years ago.
I need to start wearing my hair up more but find it really difficult to get all my hair up as its many different lengths. Planning on getting some claw clips I think as my hair is just too short for my sticks.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
The 13th was my monthly length check day, I'm at 16.75" now! I think all the eggs I've been eating for breakfast every day are paying off, I never grow more than half an inch in a month, my red tattoo is finally covered! Anyway here's my chart thingy:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm "downgrading" from SL to CL! Got a chop today, so I'll be camping over there for a while. I hope that by the time I'm back on this thread, most of you would've graduated into the next one! ;)

Have you tried co washing? That may help cleanse without stripping the hair in between washes.

I must admit I wash my hair every day, which I know its a cardinal sin, but my hair and scalp both are awful otherwise. I would recommend you wash extremely gently (imagine you're washing a baby's hair!), use diluted shampoo (or CO as Aingeal recommended) and don't fuss with it too much when it's wet. Pre oiling with a little coconut oil (on the lengths) could also help. My hair seems very happy to be washed regularly, although I shall have to see if that's still true when it gets longer!

I've tried CO, makes my hair look and feel super oily. I use non-SLS shampoo and mix with water. I also try to only wash the roots every other time and just the the shampoo cleanse the ends as it rinses (more or less successful). Thanks for the suggestions!
