grimsqueaker - I totally hear you! Haha this has to be the most frustrating stage of hair growth. I've been on this board since I joined in August.
This week I was able to pass the towel test (yay!) but I was also due for a trim. I had about 2-3 inches of layers that I'm growing out. I trimmed a solid inch off and I adore the blunt hemline! I can see I have about an inch or so of layers still to trim away but I think I'm going to wait until my next trim in April :) So I'm currently about 1 inch from APL!
Come on hair, grow!
Happy growing to all of those in the just-past-shoulder abyss out there!
Hi everyone, I'm mostly a lurker in the shldr-apl group. I was at BSL but cut back to above shoulder last February due to old damage. Now I'm at 22.25 inches, hovering about an inch above APL, I think. Anyway, I'm wondering what all of your measurements are reaching APL and then onto BSL? Mine is about 23.5 inches, but I think at 24 inches my hair will be a nicely solid APL. BSL is 27 inches.
I cut my hair... I couldn't stand the whispy ends, so now I'm a year from APL, AGAIN! Frustrating. I think I will never get there, because my ends always get whispy when they're closing in on APL. :(
Let us know how it turns out! :)
I'm with you all who feel that this stage is so slow... I've been growing out and cutting off damage for two years and I've been floating between SL and APL for longer. I see myself as a long-haired person and I think I started to dye it because I felt my hair wasn't at all representative of my style or personality.. blah!!
I'm due for a trim at the start of January and while it feels like taking a step backwards I guess it's for the best. My ends are starting to look a bit scraggly and experience has taught me that it doesn't get better if I just neglect them. I need to start wearing more end-protecting updos, I guess that will be my New Year's resolution so I neeever have to trim! But, my ends are not nearly as bad as they were last time I trimmed - I think it's mostly because I got rid of the last bit of old bleach damage and because I threw out my plastic brush and have been detangling very gently with a wide toothed comb!
I know what everyone is saying about feeling like we've been at this length for forever. Ugh! Haha. Also, I discovered I was measuring my hair incorrectly. It was very nice to see my hair was much longer in inches than I thought, even though it's not /actually/ any longer. ;D But the bigger number is encouraging.
I just had BF help me mark my length on my measurement shirt. We mark it every four weeks instead of the same day every month since some months have a different amount of days. He measured 3/4 inch of growth which put me at a 1/2 inch to APL! That growth is good, and I will definitely take it, but I was a little bummed not to get the little over an inch I got last four weeks. I was going to get a little trim in January to even up the ends and start evening out the layers, but I may try to hold out until February. My ends are a little squirrelly growth wise, but they aren't dry and seem pretty healthy. No since in losing the length if I don't need it.
So, I struggle with braiding and I am basically the "baby" at the laboratory at age 21, so all the mom's like to mess with my hair, and I looovee getting my hair played with. Someone different offered to help braid my hair, and when she got done, she said, "You have such nice silky soft hair." Awwhhhh. I love little compliments like that! It makes me realize how much better I'm taking care of my hair! Not to mention half of it still has bleach under the darker dye! :) YAY!
My hair is slowly moving in the right direction .. I just wish I didn't have so much shrinkage.. when pulled straight it's over 1.5" past collarbone but when I just let is air dry after I apply all my potions (lo,) it's pretty much right back at chin
