Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I oiled my hair for about 8 hours before washing last night. I haven't oiled my hair in so long. I liked the results from yesterday and will try to oil at least once a week.

Thank you, Bright and SleepyTangles!
So far, oiling with mineral oil seems to be a success! My ends don't look ratty today.

I just reached shoulder length a couple of weeks ago (starting from a pixie dating from 4/2020), and my longest layer actually stretches to my collarbone (maybe 1" past shoulder). My biggest battle right now is combating breakage from sleeping and manipulation. I've been having to trim off damage every month, which slows down my already slow progress. I'm also restricted to using very light conditioners that don't provide all the moisture I need.
Thanks to some good advice from members here, I just got some mineral oil today; I'm going to start oiling my ends after washing and before bed, and I hope to see some improvement in the next month! Maybe in a year I'll be at APL...
Since I'm new, I can only put a picture of my progress in my avatar.
Welcome to the forum! I also struggle with breakage. Good to know about the mineral oil!

Breakage from sleeping is also critical for me. Sleeping on satin silk or with a satin scarf wrapped around the pillow really helped me, and also owning a TangleTeezer or a WetBrush.
Your avatar looks lovely! :crush: Your texture is very pretty
See you soon o.r., and congratulations to your nephew! :D
Even when my hair was healthy and absolutely not porous (hennaed over a virgin base) it would just feast upon every bit of moisture I gave it ;). If you can keep on with regular treatments your hair will really love it, moisturized hair is the nº 1 thing to avoid breakage, splits and any kind of wear-and-tear :cheer:
Thanks! I am working on getting better about oiling and moisturizing. My hair really seems to need a lot lately.

Ooh, what kind of masque did you do?
Go Bat go Bat! Your hair looks great!! :cheer::cheer:
Umm... Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen and Restore Treatment Masque ( I knew I spelled masque with q for a reason!)
This is a very intense mask. The reason I got it was because of the castor oil. It really moisturized my hair but I had a part I guess I didn't rinse out thoroughly enough and it go very itchy! So, rinsing out very thoroughly is a must!

Thats great that oiling with the mineral oil is working! Keep us updated!
yesterday I was finally able to do a LWB with a hairstick but I had to make it so tight that I couldn't continue to wear it because it was giving me a headache. Hopefully with longer hair it won't bother me quite so much.

Thanks ReadingRenee! I have to use mineral oil due to yeast issues. Unfortunately it doesn't nourish hair, just acts as a sealant/occlusive/lubricant.
In another thread about issues with scalp pain due to updos, someone said that the longer your hair gets, the more evenly distributed it is (and you can do more styles), which helps with pain from updos. So, I think you're correct. Hers had to be at hip before the pain went away!
