Luluj, I think that SL has at least two subcategories. Short and long. CBL could be the mid stage, if reffered to the point below the neck, where collarbones connect each other. I'm just wondering where on the back could be that point. Is it in the middle between SL and APL or a bit higher. If I look from a front, my CBL is close to APL even if it feels like it should be closer to SL.
Same, I only started calling my hair shoulder length, when it touched my shoulder bones. But in the end it doesn't matter to much, the endgoal is the same.
How useful CBL is probably depends a lot on your body and bone structure. For me it was a very good midway point. I have broad shoulders and low collar bones. (I called CBL when the front reached the point where my collar bones connect.) A friend of mine has very high and defined collarbones, that are partly higher than her shoulders.
For me it was a pretty good -in between- milestone, it took around 5 months to get from SL (hair touching shoulder bones) to CBL. I can imagine that for Agava, if it only takes 3 months, it didn't feel as such a big deal. Or if you use the outer points of your collar bones as the milestone. CBL helped to stay motivated, since SL to APL takes about a year for me.

I've just measured, I would need 5cm to CBL, which means it's halfway to APL, for me.

No, that was Bat, who said that he reached CL in June so I commented it's easier from CL to SL, because it's 3 months, while from SL to APL is much longer.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I never understood "neck length"! Since neck is a vertical marker and ends at collarbone, I wouldn't know where to call that.

Agava, This is a back view of my hair, which I think is shoulder length. The front pieces, when stretched, go a bit beyond my collarbone. I had just taken my hair out of a french braid and ran my fingers through it to try and straighten it enough for a true length shot. When wet, it looks to be a little longer.

I'd call it well below collarbone length, personally! :)

Thanks for your input bat and ynne.
The good news is that I belong in this thread with the rest of you, on my way to APL.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm still a pretender LOL still not fully here I should be though by October,
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
luluj You're definitely past shoulder already, if you use CBL it looks past collarbone too. Welcome to the thread!
I think I've shared this picture in this thread before, I'm a visual learner so this better exemplifies what I mean by NL and SL

The blue line is where I call it neck length (as in "bottom of neck") and the red line where I call shoulder. My collarbone is pretty much at level with that line. I understand a lot of people call it shoulder once it hits the blue line.
Anatomically, I would say NL is at your C7 vertebrae (if you look down and touch your neck, the most prominent bones are c6 and c7) and SL where the deltoid starts.

I think Neck Length works better if you have curly hair and don't use chin length as a marker. Since my hair is heavily layered due to growing out my buzzcut it'd be weird to use chin length as a milestore, as once my nape hair is barely two cm long it'd be chin length but if I were to wait until my front layers reached my chin the back layers would be already SL.
Using my own pictures left would be NL and right SL.

Let's all agree that neck length to cbl is annoying xD
