Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you so much luluj and Waveurly! Congrats on growing into the 20's!! Woot woot woot! Thick curly hair is a real mixed blessing... yes it is nice, however it tangles and breaks due to being fine... so that is why I did my big, stupid chop from TBL. I know... enjoy the journey, but this is so discouraging since it took me from 2010 to 2016 to get to TBL... and then due to some personal life disappointments and some bad tangling due to using hair gel, my hair broke off horribly and created a lot of frizzy halo...not cute at all... hence my starting over... Guess I have no choice now but to accept this length, and for the most part, I have, but I still can't do my lwb or nautilus...or pinless bun..:( 4-5 years from now is a long time when you are 61....:( and pray my hair keeps on growing... my mom went bald in her 60s due to alopecia so that is always in the back of my mind. She needed to use Rogaine and this may have caused her to have a heart attack and pass away at 67. :( Boy am I miss doom and gloom these days! Anyways, dont mean to bring anyone down... I have my photos for friends only, just an fyi. :) Thanks!!!

Oh I'm so sorry you had to cut back and start over!! I do hope your hair keeps growing as well! I understand you have your photo's for friends only! :) On to fast growth and healthy hair care! :) I can totally imagine it is very hard to start over indeed!

Yes!! It is very discouraging, especially when I see others that had shorter hair than I did and now their tresses are long and glorious! :( Oh well! It is still growing... Your hair is a beautiful texture.. so shiny in your profile pic! Looks very healthy!! :blossom:
Waveurly, I just asked to contact/friend you so please accept and then you can see my photos. I deleted most of them since it was well, just too darn depressing to see what I had and just gave up on... I legitimately had damage, but still, those last few cuts were totally unnecessary and due to total frustration with using gel when I was stressed out. ugh
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
That sounds really rough, LongCurlyTress, hair cut regrets are awful :( Rest assure that your hair is lovely at every length and you will reach your goals eventually!

Congrats; your avatar looks lovely!

That looks nice LCT :)
Don't even go there...you have thick head of pretty hair!
My Mother also had baldness and needing a clip in hair piece to cover the whole back of her head.
It was very sad because it was her hair care practices that caused it (in spite of our warnings); daily layers of hairspray with only weekly salon visits, teasing/perms/curling irons
I can only imagine the immense regret (((Hugs))) try to remember that it is growing every day and @1/2 inch per month.
Tuck that tail under for a tucked braid look to change things up.
Gibson Tucks too....and twists...half ups; get some pretty claws and barrettes etc to bling it up :cheer:
Looking too far ahead will only frustrate you further; count each milestone and have fun with it :flowers:

This, a thousand times this! Great advice Groovy Granny. :agree:
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you Begemont, GG and luluj!!
This journey seems to be going/growing LOL... a lot slower than my last one...:( I am trying my best to just putitup and forgetaboutit, but every friggin' day I look in the mirror and although I see a little growth, I am still very discouraged since I created this ...not a scissor crazy hairdresser... ME! I did this to myself. In a year, I am hoping for 5-6 inches of growth and then at least I am hoping that the weight of my hair will hold down the triangle head hair so I can wear it down again. I can't do a Gibson tuck since the short pony tail just sticks out to the sides at the bottom and looks dumb. :( ugh...

I hear you loud and clear, LongCurlyTress.
We have similar stories, in that we did this to ourselves. I made countless decisions to "just trim a bit" and always ended up telling my stylist to go ahead and take a bit more, and always, always ended up with regret.
The best part of this new journey is that we can do it together, buddies if you will. Like GroovyGranny said. Let's enjoy it all, we can do this!

I did see your photo now and your hair does still look very thick! I'm sure acceptance of the start over is the hardest part but your hair looks great at this length as well!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you so much everybody for your encouraging words. One day at a time, right? or as we on LHC say, 1/2 inch a month is all we ask... well, we ask for more but … :taz:
Hugs to all! It's nice to know I am not alone at this awkward length. It will grow!!! :) :magic::magic::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
