The Eco styler is definitely a problem, I'm just too lazy to make flaxseed gel but it's something I need to do. I use eco styler argan and it doesn't contain petrolatum but it does make my hair dry and coated.

Not sure exactly how much aloe vera is in this gel, but several lhc'ers with extreme length swear by this gel...
I am finding that since I am putting my hair up in a french peacock twist everyday, that I don't need to use leave ins... :) for now, anyways!! :) I never found one I liked anyways... they all feel like my hair is glued together... even the expensive ones... :( And I think that also contributed to my hair breaking during detangling if I didn't get all the leave in gel/cream out of my hair due to using diluted shampoo.. ;(
eta also... be very careful of which alcohols are in your leave ins... the GF I used had isopropol alcohol in it.. the green squishy round bottle... it smelled great and detangled wonderfully however letting it dry and sit on my hair all day really frizzed my hair out after I washed it out... unfortunately!! but some people love it...so guess if it is working for you, go for it!! enjoy!!

Aloe vera gel doesn't give me enough hold. My hair dries tangled and frizzy with only AVG :/
I think I may need to go back to the peacock twist. Lately I've been wearing my hair in two buns with ouchless hair ties, but my curly hair likes to wind around the tie and break sometimes. Idk which is worse, if I use a claw clip, my hair winds around the metal and gets caught but the same also happens with hair ties :shrug:

Funny story..I have the same problem with hairties... yesterday, in Ross I bought two packages of these pretty hairties.. the flufffy ones for my nape chignon thingy that holds the length up and into underneath the nape ponytail... well, I tried one out, and even though it hid the short pieces that don't fully wrap around yet due to the thickness, unfortunately I had the same breaking experience as my hair got caught on the fluffy bits.. gahhhhhhh ...
I would try just using some bangs on the sides, and pulling the rest of your hair back into a french twist or low nape ponytail so you can forgo using any leave ins... I think this is a good idea to try anyways... :)

When my hair is wet/stretched, my length is about 1-2 inches from apl! (More like one inch in the front because I have a straight hemline) but when my hair is dry, because of my waves/wurls/whatever the heck they are, my hair still sits on my shoulders.

This reminds me a lot of a southern tease bun. I'll have to try it out, although I'm skeptical as my hair is still too thick for a comfortable low bun.
When were you able to do hair stick buns with your thickness? I fear I may not be able to do a LWB until waist. :/

Just got back from returning those fuzzy hairties to Ross!! LOL.... I don't really remember, but I know that I used two 2 inch claw clips, one on each side of my cinamon bun forever!! I think my hair might have been at waist or maybe just at hip before I could use a hairstick. For me, with my hairthickness it was helpful when the hairstick was just there for added hold, but the bun, usually a nautilus, held on it's own with the hair wrapping around the main part of the ponytail. I miss those days so much!!! :( But for now, the french twist with some thin fringe and side face framing hairs, just a small amount... is working for me. I suggest whatever you can do to tie your hair back, would have a sleek look and then you also wouldn't have to use any leave ins... sorry for repeating myself.. .lol... but this really does work for me.... :)

Likelikepenny, me too I think your hair are very pretty! I am going to say something you may not like, just bear with me. I've seen you long for length, have you ever thought of making dreadlocks when your natural hair begins to be too difficult to handle? I love dreadlocks, have had them for many years, but nothing compares with dreads done with your hair type, they can be so tidy and sleek! like Angela Bassett in Strange Days, she has them braided actually but dreaded in that thickness they can look fantastic. And imagine them to tailbone or classic, wow. I know that look is old-school (20 years!), and naturals are more in at the moment but, I am talking LENGTH. Also, much less work.
(end of not-minding-my-business-session) (the fact is that I find dreadlocks when very well cared for so so beautiful, so if I see a potential candidate I cannot resist)

I feel like crying! I should have just let my hair dread naturally since this is what it was wanting to do naturally, on its own, hence all that breakage during detangling... At TBL that would have looked great!! I did watch some ytube videos on how to dread hair using wax, etc... Maybe in a couple of years I will reconsider that!! How cute.. this silver streaked lady with long dreads... Very cool, imo!!

Dreads even at TBL are ALMOST NO WORK, for a curly. And, especially if you have thick hair, they are spectacular. Thin hair, not quite, but thick is GLORIOUS.

I can't wait until my hair is long enough to use a stick easily. I'll probably just keep going between double buns and a french twist until my hair is long enough for actual buns.

Thank you! And no offense taken lol. I'm always up for trying new things so who knows? The only problem is that I'm horrible at bennign neglect and I love finger combing my curls. If I found out I had a very short terminal length or I'm tired and/or bored of my hair, maybe. :shrug:
The main reason I've avoided them, is because it was/is touted as the only way someone with my hair type could ever have long hair. And being the rebel that I am, I want to try long loose curly hair first.
