Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm new also and would like to join in! I'm currently at shoulder length and am anxious to grow my hair out. I've tried in the past but it always looked terrible-probably because I never took care of it (lots of heat, dyed frequently, ripped any manner of brush through it, weird messy buns that definitely ripped out/broke far more hair than they ever protected, etc.). It always looked scraggly and awful. It's pretty healthy now since I chopped it off up to the nape of my neck and got rid of all my layers. I also quit using cones and commercial hair dye and have jumped on the henna bandwagon. My hair seems much happier! Here's to hoping it grows out and looks amazing!

I'm at CBL since I took off a good 3/4 inches because of damage, so I'm joining too! I've got about 2.5 inches to go, so I'm hoping to be back to APL by June.

Your texture reminds me of Nicole Kiddman's before she started frying it straight all the time and bleaching it. Please don't do that to your lovely hair.

I have decided to try a semi-permanent hair dye. I have used one in the past, but it has been all chopped out, it was a suble change but gave me some red highlights in the sun which I loved. I think that I wil try a lighter one, not to actually make my hair lighter, hich I know it won't, but maybe it will make a subtle change with some nice highlights, like it was caused by the sun or something. What do yo all think?

It will probably deposit some tones of whatever color it is. For example, if it has red tones, you may get hints of red in the sunlight.

Thanks! And I won't do any of that. I'm going to learn so much from everyone here about how to really care for my hair. :)

Last time I used that was exactly what happened, little difference in artificial light/indoors, but some pretty highlights in the sun or in the right lightening. They say it fades n 28 washed, but my sister (who didn't chop it all off like me) still has some hghlights on hers. I want to do it with alighter blonde, to see if I can get a bit of a lighter color in my hair, because I was very blonde as a child and I miss that... I don't want to go super blonde but a nice and subtle change would be good for me.
My sister did a hair botox (aka a keratin straightening) and my moter says I should do it too, but I am not sure, I want to see hw her hair will look after it has been washed. But I don't think I will do it. It's too chemical for my taste. I know the dye is too, but this one isn't as much and I have used it before.
I have talked with my hairdresser about the semi-permanent dye today and she told me that if I want to see a change I should pick a really light color because then it "won't be as light as in the box, but will appear as the shade you want".
I am considering to use the shade 810 from l'oreal paris casting creme gloss. But I am afraid that it will either not show at all or be too light... Or maybe shade 832 since it's a bit more golden.

This is my hair right now, I took a picture to see the color of my hair before the semi-permanent dye.

This picture was taken with natural light, but it wasn't really sunny.
It still has some redish undertones from the semi-permanent dye I used at the beggining of last year, but it's little, and mostly at the ends. Also my hair looks longer from the back than I thought it would. I hope that the shade 832 will bring a bit more of blonde to my hair.
