Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I probably should have joined this thread long ago but I am definately at this growth stage.
Here are some recent back shots, I don't think I am APL yet, getting closer though, maybe in a few more months.
This was October, first day curls

This is November, this is what happens when my curls fall out after I wear it up all day lol.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Love the curls Nae!
I just trimmed my hair to even up the hemline. My hair is in pretty good condition but I feel I need to trim regularly to keep it that way. I decided to make this a quarterly event trimming with every seasonal change. Not because of some weird superstition but because I'm hoping I won't forget if I use set dates. :o
So here is my list again, I find I can keep better track of my progress if I use a list.
October 31st, damp/nearly dry hair, stretched 53 cm (20.9")
November 8th, dry hair, stretched 54 cm (21.3")
November 15th, dry hair, stretched, 54.5 cm (21.5")
November 21st, dry hair, stretched, 55.5 cm (21.9")
November 25th, quarterly trim of approximately 0.5 cm (google tells me this is 0.2")
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm joining this thread simply to get ideas on hairstyles for this length. :) I don't know yet whether I plan to continue to cut, or whether I'll add an inch or two and keep it. But I wanted to mark my spot here!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I want to join as well my hair is around my collarbone.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Soooo DH tells me I'm not nearly as close to APL as I thought I was...
Mind you this was after telling me three weeks ago that I was thisclose. I need to get some pics so I can see for myself because he tells me I have at least 3-4 inches to go and I'm not sure if he's messing with me.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm curious what kind of trimming strategy is working for everyone else in this stage ... Are you doing no trims, self trims, or professional trims?
I think it's a safe bet that self-trimming won't work for me in this particular stage ...I had shoulder length hair for 10 years before my pixie cut and only my boyfriend knew that I was trying unsuccessfully to grow it long. I always got frustrated at the shape of it and fixed it in the only way that I knew how (trimming back to shoulder length in the bathroom)
So I'm opting for no trimming. The other option is to have a professional do trims & shaping for me because maybe they could fix the "dragging down the face" issue without cutting it shorter, but I wear it up all the time for work anyway so that might be a wasted haircut.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm trying for a 1cm trim every three months... but over the last few months I've timed more than that because my ends were feeling pretty rough.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My stylist is specialised on people with long hair and who want to grow long hair. I go there every three months. He does a "dusting" and takes off less then 1 cm. I don't know when, but at some point I want to get rid of my layers. At least most of the layers have to go. Maybe I want to start microtrimming every month once I can do that myself easily. I'd like to use this method, but I'm going to ask my stylist first. That's his homepage, so you can see, that he really is that kind of stylist, who would show you how to cut your own hair.
