Nae: Wrap a bath towel under your arm :) IF your hair touches the towel, you are definitely at APL :)
Nae, it's SO hard to tell how long it is when you lose as much as you do to those lovely curls.
That's a great idea! *off to go take another photo...*
ETA: Fufu, that worked SO well! I just put my towel shot as my avatar - wow, I'm only like 4 or 5" away from APL! At least in the back - my stupid, slow growing sides are still barely below chin length. GROW doggone it! :)
To me it looks like you have a couple more inches to go... your hair is very pretty though! I like your curls.
See the wrinkles in your shirt that go from one armpit to the other? To me it looks like the top one of those wrinkles is about an inch below APL.
It's hard to tell for sure because of the angle. I like the towel test but for me the hair would have to be slightly under the towel before I call it APL, that's just my own preference.
PS: Crisdee - if your front layers are below chin you're way ahead of me! :) I'm still waiting for my bangs to get to chin level although I have non-bang layers on both sides that are slightly past chin. I'm so ready for those bits in front to be longer now! I did so much front & side layer trimming in 2010 ... I can't help wondering what it would look like if I had just left it alone!
It is just so hard to tell. It definately goes down to the towel line, when I pull it straight it is slightly past it, like 1/4 of an inch but I just would like it apl curly ya know? I think I will hang out here for a while longer. ;)
Oh, I cut my bangs. :( I went back, forth, up and down whether to re-cut them, but I just didn't like the way my face looks without bangs. So I cut 'em. And I do like my hair a lot better. I can still brush them back when I want everything off my face, but at my age I need the softening effect when I want to look nice. It's I guess what you called the non-bang layers that are just past chin - just like yours. :) With your waves, when a few of those slip out of an updo, it looks really pretty, like tendrils - when mine slip out, it's about as attractive as grass growing in the cracks of a sidewalk. I think I'll go rub some monistat on my head... :p
I almost forgot about your bangs! I'm glad you like them! :) I like bangs too. mine are growing out mostly as a side effect of this "no trim" challenge. It's too tempting to trim in the bathroom if I'm maintaining bangs ... don't want to make a big trip downtown just for that, might as well trim the surrounding hair so it blends in, oops might as well trim the back now that the front is too short ... etc. :) So no bangs for me this year. They're around mouth length at the moment. I'm not sure what I'll do with them next year though.
My pieces falling out of updos usually look pretty frazzled to be honest. It's usually that "hair wanting to be curly but it was brushed at some point to get into the updo" look so they're mostly frazzled chunks hanging down in front. Unfortunately I don't keep any pictures of it when it's looking bad so I can't prove this :) but I'll also be glad when mine are long enough to not fall out. The worst is the pieces falling out of a french twist because sometimes I get a 3" block of hair falling out on one side, but nothing falling out on the other. (And then I don't realize it until I go to the bathroom 2 hours later.) Grr! I need to do more sock buns... at least they are symmetrical!
Sorry for all this ranting, my hair is just annoying today! my boss thinks I'm easily upset and I can't help wondering if my frazzled-looking hair is making him think I'm more upset than I actually am. I'm also trying to stop eating dairy and that's making me very anxious and jittery. Next week will be better I hope!
Woot de woo!:cheese:
I just measured for real today and discovered I'm not stalling like I thought! I can even tuck my "bangs" behind my ears once again.
Of course I'm still miles (okay, inches) away from APL and the whole bottom half of my hair will have to go once I get it longer, but still--growth!
Jaine and Crisdee~I have the same issue with french twists--and peacock twists too, now that I think about it. Imagine though, some people here are waiting for the day when peices are long enough to fall out of updos...
Wow, Nae~you look really close to my eyes!
Question for you folks; I was guessing classic length on me would be approximately 37 inch. Since I'm already past twenty, that doesn't seem even remotely close to right, since I've got another, oh, say four (maybe?) to go for APL. (Does 25ish sound about right for APL on a fairly short woman?) Anyway, I'm guessing I am waaay off on at least some of my minigoal measurements, if not all...What I'm wondering is how much of my length can I guestimate is just the hairline-to-back-of-the-crown area?
I swear I measured, but the numbers still seem off, and now I don't know when to expect my mini-goals for sure, like APL and BSL. Hope that question made sense, and I don't mean to hijack the thread! Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this as they grow.
Woo! I belong here. :) Just wanted to jump in and say hi to everyone!
On sock buns, do you think non-LHC'ers, or people who don't know much about updos/or wear them think they are like cinnabuns? I just saw a messy cinnabun on a girl today that looked exactly like my messy sock bun! She even used the same telephone cord pony holder.
