I've been studying my growth progress picture closely after being disheartened to begin with. The thread about length perspectives got me thinking about it and how hair on yourself can seem short but it seems long to others. I may be too hard on myself not seeing any growth. It's difficult to judge since the photos are different, I think I'll start taking the photos consistently now to measure the milestones. I also need to stop asking my brother to take the pictures because he just doesn't get it. :p APL is still a long way off but I think I can see a little bit of growth since April?

I see growth quite clearly! I would say at least 1 inch 1/2, maybe even more, it's hard to tell cause your hair doesn't look like it was completely combed down.
It's hard to tell on pictures to be honest, I find that particularly with my hair depending on the angle and how wavy or straight it decides to be that day.
Have you been measuring? I'm sure you'd be able to tell from your measuring how much growth you've had. But seriously don't be disheartened, it really looks to me like you've got some good growth there.
KittyLost, it looks like quite a bit of growth to me! But you're right, the differences in the photos make it harder to tell. For my length shots, I used to put my camera on a tripod and stand in the same spot in my bedroom corner, so everything would come out the same - but then my camera broke, so now I end up taking all my back of head shots with my phone in random hotels. Consistency in photographing really lets you know exactly how much growth there really is. :)
Thank you Theodora, I hope it is that much growth! I used to measure quite frequently but lately I've stopped since everytime I attempt to measure the tape always comes up at around 18inches sometimes less. I thought the pictures may be a more accurate way of measuring growth haha. I'm going to get my friend to help make sure the ends are all smoothed out next time.
Thanks for the tip CrisDee I don't have a tripod but I think my camera has a self-timer so I should get similiar results if I set it down on a desk or a shelf? I've never been too concerned about consistency in pictures as I was previously only noting growth from chin until shoulder which can be easily seen. My habits will have to change now as my hair gets longer.
Kittylost, give it two more months. Trust me. You hair will look and feel much longer! You've already got some good growth, but it's just this darned stage of just being past the nape in the back. It makes hair look odd I find. I've just barely gotten past it now so that my hair seems a bit "wider" at the bottom and actually looks solidly shoulder-length rather than just touching shoulder.
Great growth everyone! It looks like Christmas will be a joyous hair season this year :cheese:
I've noticed the same oddness with trying to measure or get a good length shot at this stage. My ends seem to want to flip up, sort of following the shape of my neck, and it makes the true length difficult to judge. Hopefully with a few more inches the extra weight will help it lie down better.
Nice growth CrisDee and KittyLost :)
My hair is crawling towards APL and is about an inch shy infront and about 2-3 in back I think.
I haven't had a trim at all now in a year and am wondering if this length is a normal amount of growth?!
I have gone from a POB with the back bottom 2 inches shaved and the longest front bits at chin on one side and slightly too short to tuck behind my ears on the other to this. It doesn't seem to be very much growth at all!! I did cut the longest front sections about 2 inches shorter to even my hemline but man this flicky shoulder business is taking forever to be over!
Did anyone else start at chin or shorter? How long did it take you to get where you are now?!
I started at pixie and it's taken me a few months shy of a year to reach shoulder.
I am back. I was working towards BSL when I decided to get my hair layed and they took two inches off my length. I am an inch away from APL when my hair is dry, and right above APL when it is wet. I like my cut but I wish she would have left me with more length.
Thanks everyone! I'm glad I decided to check my length sgain. I was previously thinking about a big chop to make my short layers seem more bareable thinking that because I had no growth there would be nothing to lose. I'm glad I didn't now!
Mrs. Coffee that's great growth! And MaryRose at least you get to keep your cute cute and have it at the length you want as it grows. You'll only need a slight trim to tidy up the layers and keep it at BSL :)
I started at uber pixie in August '09. I think my growth is about average at this point - my hair used to grow a bit faster when I was younger - but this

in two years makes me happy! :)
APL on me is quite long, even though I have a short neck, but reading some other thread on the "polls" section, I discovered my hair at waist length is pretty average for my height (31.5). :D I'm happy about that!
ETA: pink.sara, exactly a year ago I was at ear length, now about an inch to APL.
I started at a chin length a-line (pob) and although I joined in April, I'd been growing it out since the beginning of March. I reached Shoulder by September with a trim inbetween and have been stuck where my pictures show in January and April ever since with 2trims since September. Even my trusty hairdresser commented on my slow growth. My hair has only just started showing signs of growing again which I'm pleased about. I thought I'd be stuck at shoulder forever!
Previously I've been able to go from Shoulder to touching BSL in just over a year so my growth rate has definately changed as I got older.
I'm thinking it's age :(
Booo! In my teens I grew to knee in 5 years and then again from pixie to waist in 3-4 years in my early 20's. That's averaging an inch a month or even more, now it grows about .5 or even less and a chin length (shaved back) POB to: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ctureid=105337
In a year.
I don't even know how far away APL is but if I get there this year it'll be a miracle!
I definitely agree, growth does seem to slow as I get older:(
I'm growing out a graduated chin length bob which I had cut in Nov last year. Not trims since:) This was taken on 2nd july.

I'm in the no trims 2011 challenge, so first thing on 1st jan I'm going to self trim either a straight hemline to even out the length or if it seems long enough try a slight U hemline:D
Castor oil really helps speed my growth, have you girls tried it? :)
I cut my hair into a long bob (almost touching collarbone) this year in beginning of March as I wanted to dye it really light blond and my ends couldn't handle the damage.
So I guess I've grown from that to almost APL.
It's more obvious in the fringe area which was a blunt fringe at eyebrow level and is now almost chin.
The thing is, my hair grows much much faster in the warmer months so I need to make the most of this time of the year before I hit my winter stall.
Anyone else growing faster in the summer?
I've thought about castor oil, and looked for it once at Walmart, but I didn't find it (sales associate had no idea what castor oil was) and haven't looked since. I do tend to grow fast in the warm months, but maybe when winter comes back around I'll look again.
You can buy castor oil at the drugstore.
I'd like to try castor oil some time!
My hair has grown very fast in the winter, but these past few months have been rather slow, strangely :S could it be because I ate more fat and proteïn in the winter? :S
Anyone know where to get Caster Oil in England? I'll give it a try.
I grow faster usually around christmas instead due to a better diet. The summer months don't give me a growth spurt.

I bought some castor oil from a local chemist, I just asked an she had it behind the counter, it was really cheap but after 3-4 times of using a bit I gave up as it left me with awful build up I had to clarify, and I hate having to go all heavy duty and clarify :(
I find MN does work but I Have to remember to do it every wash for weeks and I'm always in the gym so I forget
I am SO not diligent about it, but I love it when I remember! I like to use the formula that Princessp uses. It's not quite so gloppy for me and easier to get out. It's here on her blog.
Lianna - how do you apply your castor oil?
I just started with rooibos tea sprays. I don't know about growth because I've only been doing it a couple of days - but WOW it makes my hair soft anyway! :)
Good growth everyone - I know we feel stuck, but there are so many of you so close to APL!! (I'm definitely not one of them though!)
I'm at shoulder and hope to be at APL in a year. :)
I started with a buzz cut (1/4 inch). My last one was April of 2010, so it's been a year and 3 months. Right now, my longest layer is about an inch or two from APL, and my shortest layer is shoulder-length. However, it all curls up when it's dry, so it's not obvious that it is that long yet. In another few months, that should calm down some so that my length is more apparent. :D

That's the picture I took at the beginning of June. I'm only taking one picture of the length every two months, so it's the most recent picture. :)
Ok, so I'm back and need your opinions. Am I at APL yet, lol. I know, I know... My hair is tied in a ponytail. However, I tried taking a photo with my hair down but my hair is so lightly coloured that it's difficult to see where the ends are.
So? Did I graduate? :eyebrows:

Gwen
Woop woop go Gwen you did it!
Yesterday I had my bf check my length, and he said I was about half an inch past APL... But I don't want to graduate from this thread! You're all so nice! Can I stay here until my layers are at APL? Or my fringe? (that would probably take 2 years!:D:D:D:D)
