Frustrating isn't it? I wonder if Autumn is just the time of year that our hair rests a bit?

I've been attempting to get my hair to stay in a hairstick bun today. I think I figured something that will work, albeit messily. I don't have enough length (or small enough fingers) for a lazy wrap bun.
I start making a cinnamon bun coil and insert one hair stick. My hair is just long enough to get the ends to be tucked under the big knobby part where the coil starts, so I put the stick through that, over the ends, through the bun (catching scalp hair) and out the other side horizontally. Basically the normal way one would put a stick in a cinnabun, making sure the stick is basically horizontal.
Then, using my left hand to keep the hair in it's vaguely cinnabun shape, I put the second down through the back of the top of the coil then down under the bottom of the coil, turning the stick to point upwards under the first stick (sort of flipping the bun).
I'm not sure if that makes sense and I don't know if this has an official name, but it seems to be sturdy if I get the sticks positioned just right with the right tension on the coil. I'm going to try wearing it all day today to see if it really holds. It's not the loveliest of hairstyles, but this way I can have a hairstick bun again.
It takes ages to grow to APL! I'm getting frustrated about it. I have 12 inches of damage (often styled and bleached)... I could shop it to chin length and begin all over again with healthy hair but then I couldn't make a french twist anymore... Because of my layers I can't make a good/decent bun.
I am back in this club for now. I had layers to BSL at the start of the year, but my ends were a mess from not being able to secure them out of reach of naughty ponies, and the shortest bits were ear length, so it all looked kinda stupid. So in March, I (mostly) quit cones, chopped it back to barely shoulder length, and we've maintained there most of the year to get the last layers out. Now I have enough braid stub that I can tuck it under and pin, I'm experimenting with CO (washing and coconut oil, just noticed that's the same acronym, lol), and starting to mess around with. buns and French twists for work. I want a nice fork to post with.
A general observation: I've noticed that I'm much happier with my hair now I'm past 19", yes it's frustrating that my growth has slowed down so much but it's annoying me so much less now and it's starting to look better when down more often with less effort. I think I need to remember this and make a mental note not to ever cut it shorter than 19". Obviously I want to be a lot longer yet but the 19" mark does seem to have been a bit of a turning point for me.
My hair has only grown 1/2 inch since July. I am so frustrated! Maybe this is just a seasonal resting phase but whatever it is I am not happy! Grow darn you grow! I just need another inch to do a lace crow braid all the way around my head. Or to start stick bunning or to do anything other then two french braids or pony tails. On the plus side I have been checking for splits and not finding them and my hair is in better condition with pretty crazy curls so I guess I should focus on the positive.
Ditto! I feel like a girl again when my hair gets to that point, it starts blowing in the wind and doing awesome things.
I think my hair is about 20.5" by now (health "issues" sped up my growth if you read my thread in the health&body place ) and I got it styled into twin english braids yesterday, amazing.
I'm so glad to be back! I'm calling apl on Halloween, so that means I'll be there soon!
I'm glad LHC is back too :( I think about it and miss coming on.
I will be calling APL for Halloween too! :pumpkin:
My hair looks like it is shrinking to me... weird... it was just starting to look like it was growing. I definitely need a trim but I just had one in August I'm going to hold out until December!
that's really cute! You have my dream hair color.
While the forums were down I figured out a dutch braid! I think! haha
