Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It's all about moderation - it's the daily blow-frying and ironing that'll kill yer hair, once in a while won't hurt. (Unless you've henna'd - then irons are a total no-no, learned that the hard way :( )
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I guess I qualify now. I've been growing out a pixie (or cutting my hair back into the pixie every time it grew past my ears, rather) for over two and a half years. Now I'm just not trimming or getting it cut. I won't touch it with scissors myself anymore, except bangs, and I just don't want to go to the trouble and expense of getting a pro cut. I feel like I'm "out of the woods" at shoulder. Now that it's here, it's not a hassle anymore. I don't have to heat-style it to make it look presentable, and it's not in any odd, unflattering in-between shape, either. It just gets longer from here, folks!

What happens when you flat iron and henna hair? If you don't mind me asking.

Thanks KittyLost. I'm glad we get to enjoy this journey together. I can't wait to hit APL though, I've never been that long and it'll feel like I can do more in the way of updos and such. I hope I can enjoy it for new years :D

I was wondering the same thing - it seems that it darkens the henna. Permanently and indefinitely. Hmmm.. good to know, now that I'm growing the henndigo out :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I'm officially out of the chin to shoulder stage as I've finally hit shoulder length (actually a little past now). My hair hasn't been this long in probably 10 years. I always thought I was too impatient for long hair, but I'm finding that the longer it gets the more I like it.
I'm usually a compulsive trimmer, but I haven't touched it in a few months. I'm hoping to hit APL within 6 months. My hair typically grows about an inch a month, but I know growth rates can vary from month to month so I'm giving it 6 months.

The lovely ginger, red or auburn henna'd hair turns dark brown. Permanently. I used a large barrel curling iron on mine, so the ends that were being gripped by the iron got even darker, while higher up the shaft (and farther away from the metal) was less dark (but still brown). That was one of the issues that led to whacking all my hair off in March of 09 - ruined a whole head of shoulder length hair. :(

WOOT!!! :trainwreck:
Why does no one tell you these things!!!! Ahhhhh.
I just removed my permanent blue black dye to have my natural auburn, thinking I could henna over the grey bits and add shine etc while keeping it close to my natural colour while growing.... Now I find out if I use my beloved GhDs I'm going to go Brown?! Blah. (No offense intended brunettes, I just want my own colour for once.)
