Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
If you count your milestones when curly you will find it takes so much longer to reach any milestones when you actually have the correct length of hair stand to call the milestones . You could end up with bra strap length (or longer) hair when straight before being able to call APL when curly . I do think curly haired people should count their hair as straight too . If I curled my hair it would be a lot shorter. When I curled it when it was waist length it took my hair up to near my armpit and shorter
depending on the curl type it can take away so much length and I imagine that can feel disheartening when trying to grow length it will feel like forever

I'm at APL when my hair is completely wet in the shower, but its curly so shrinks up quite a bit when its dry, to just below the shoulders. I guess I'm not technically at APL yet… or am I?

I'm calling my milestones dry and brushed out, because that's how I usually wear it - I style my hair curly only for special occasions (if I don't forget). But my hair is wavy/curly and fine-ish, so it brushes out into decent looking waves. The shrinkage is usually around half a milestone, so I can wait. For your hair type, I think you should choose... what makes you feel better, no strict rules here:)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I always call my milestones stretched, but I don't move on/call it solidly until it visually looks like it reaches, which is about 3 months difference. My hair isn't even that wavy, and maybe now that I don't have such an extreme taper the gap between stretched and visually there will be closer, I don't know. I'm not even measuring right now because I think I was starting to obsess over it before my cut, and I want a fresh start. I'm trying to not worry about measurements and milestones so much, and just enjoy my hair at whatever length it happens to be currently. Easier said than done, since I've been a little frustrated trying to get styles to work in my hair, but that's probably because I've never styled hair this short and there's a pretty steep learning curve. But it's getting there!
I finally feel like the back of my hair is actually shoulder length now! Since my cut is a little angled (it was collarbone in the front and a bit above shoulder in the back) I wasn't sure if it really counted at shoulder length after I first got it done. But I feel like I can actually call it that now. Feels awesome (:

I try to keep it as tight and straight as possible
It LOOKS like about 2 inches to go so April at the earliest for me will be APL , that’s assuming that I get the average growth rate and not less
Roll on April !!!
Crammin it up just makes it the most accurate depiction of APL in my opinion!

Currently visual and stretched difference is almost nil, but I expect that to change as I pamper my wave and coax them to their full potential lol. But I might just brush them out for length stuff anyway, idk!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Me too. This is where I used to always give up and go blonde and cut it and then regret it because I had to keep cutting the damage.
I think I'm close to APL in the back, but my front is shorter because I used curling irons and it was more fragile.
I think I can get there if I put the curling iron in the garage somewhere and forget it....or take it to Goodwill....

Finally got a good photo of my post trim hair. It was APL, but fine and taily. I'm so much happier with it now, even though it'll take me a few more months to get back to APL. I've decided to trim a bit more frequently than I was doing, I think my hair needs it.
Now I'll go back and read the thread, see what everyone else has been up to :)
Congrats! Even though it's length lost, it looks really healthy, and it's so good you're happier with it. Happy growing!

Hi and welcome! :cheer: I agree with what others have already said - it's your choice what you go by. If it's at APL wet then it's definitely APL, but it's up to you when you call it :) You're not cheating by calling the length as it is when it's wet.
wispe congrats on getting to SL again at the back! I bet it looks awesome :)
