I have been doing this stupid peacock twist thing that's like the only thing i can do with a fork. Tried a lazy wrap and Pha bun but hair's too short.
Tried a pathetic baby cinnamon bun that only makes one half circle before I run out of hair.
Then looking at some of these posts, I got the idea that is so simple, why have I not done this yet. Gathered my hair down at the nape, braided it, then flipped the braid up, tucked the ends under to make a "loop", and forked it down with the fork running straight across from 9:00 to 3:00 if that makes any sense (like horizontal).
I don't have my hand mirror can't lay my hands on it, but used my cell phone to take a cruddy pic so I could see, and it looks good, and HOLDS. Looks like some kind of braided baby bun. This is SO SIMPLE. Why didn't I think of this before?
I'll let you know later if this is truly a winner. I'll be trying this out this weekend.
I can't do a pha bun yet either. Try a lwb but make it up pretty high on your head where there's more length. Only wrap one finger and wrap the rest under your finger and thumb.

My goal is to hit APL by next summer (while curly).
I will say this. Having shoulder length hair finally made me feel like I have "girly" hair again, if that makes any sense.
Oh I know what you mean- my hair just hit SL not too long ago and it's almost to the point where I can braid it! Woo hoo~

Thanks, and those couple of tips may help me to finally get the LWB down. I need to study more what to do at the end with where to stick it exactly on the in and out part.

You insert the stick right where your index finger is. Go under the middle part of hair and back up on the other side of that piece, over the outer loop. Hope that makes sense. You can totally feel when you come back out in the right place, it kind of locks it in place.

Battles, your idea is awesome. Unfortunately, I can't take a decent picture myself :( But still, it's AWESOME! Thanks for the idea! :flower:
As close as it's going to get:

Instead of wrapping it around my finger and then inserting the stick, I wrap it around the stick upside down and then flip the stick over, with the point facing the back of my head. It really helps.
After I started using poo bars, DF started getting butthurt about my hair, because "You use really weird $#!+ on your head, and it smells weird and looks awful!" Yesterday, I washed as I normally did, and then when he got home from work I said, "DF! I used normal people shampoo! How does my hair look?" ...and he flipped out about how great it looked and how nice it smelled. I just smiled. He realized what I had done and insisted I'd done something differently, but nope. He's kept his mouth shut about my hair care ever since. :D

I can't join in this, because I'm well past APL. But I came to wish you lovely ladies and gents good luck! Hope you reach your goals soon! :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm officially claiming apl, my longest layer is solidly there when dry. Off to the apl to bsl thread. Good growing everyone!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Well, I'm setting up camp here again. But all the drastic damage is gone, so my dire need to cut is done. I have the major shed and regrowth, but that I can work with.
I'm around shoulder, I have to get my hair from under my shirt daily and it loves to wrap around jewelry. I just have major flip from my hair hitting my trap muscles. Plus it can't decide how wavy it wants to be.
But, pulled straight, it's an inch past my collarbone and yay, it's black.
No buns for me yet, too much hair that then compacts down tiny. I need another two inches for a lazy wrap I think.
