Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you, MinderMutsig! I'm so happy to have found this forum, it is giving me the encouragement and good advice to grow, grow, grow. Never grew out my hair, always had it super short, right now it's the long it has ever (ever!) been, and it is only at SL! So exciting! I'm no spring chicken, either, in my mid-50s, and decided I needed to move into my goddess phase.

Welcome :)
They sound kind of strange in German already. Did not know, that they are hilarious in English. I'd go for awkward :D
Some length descriptions are also a bit strange, because they are mend to be unisex. I think that's the main reason she made those up. Man don't know where waist or BSL is on themselves usually.

Hi everybody! :waving: This is my first visit to this thread, having come over (like some others I recognize :waving:) from the Super Shorties thread. My hair is pretty much as you see in my avatar, maybe an inch longer overall - past shoulder length in the back (about vertebrae T1), but barely chin length in front. That's what's taken me so long to "graduate" from Super Shortie to this thread - my hair is so baby fine (but LOTS of it) that when I try to do any kind of updo, the too-short sides fall out, then that undermines the stability of the 'do, and the whole thing just plops right out! :( It feels like some sort of hair limbo - too long to be a Shortie, but too short to really be called shoulder. But I think to give myself some encouragement, I'll hang out here for a bit. Looking forward to growing with y'all :)

Welcome CrisDee!
I'm sure you'll soon be able to do lots of upds. Your hairtype is perfect for doing that stuff early on. I guess also the henna helps in many ways.

I think they are so funny because of the minutia in the list. Every little millimeter has a title, that's why it's funny. I guess it is American humor!

CrisDee, you have gorgeous hair. Love the color, shine, and texture. Really beautiful. It will look incredible when it is long.

Thanks, guys! Yes, my hair sure does like henna - it has never been this shiny and healthy. I'm trying soooo hard to be patient, it really will look good grown out, but this in-between time is SO awkward!

Hi Crisdee!! :)
FWIW I think you are definitely shoulder length and have been for many months already. ;) I don't think bangs and face-framing layers should affect what length we call it ... for example if someone with waist-length hair has chin-length bangs, it's still waist length!

Getting close to APL but I still have lots of people tell me they love my new "shoulder length cut" even though it was at my shoulders months ago. :(
I thought of this post today. I was working with some hair people, and they referred to my hair as shoulder length (it is just brushing the shoulders, maybe part of it is VERY slightly passed the highest point of my shoulder). I celebrated briefly, then mentioned how most people don't consider it shoulder length. They said "Most people are wrong! They think collarbone length means shoulder length when in reality, THIS is exactly shoulder length." I felt so good, I wanted to hug the guy.

I agree! My colloarbones, the prominent part at least, are below my shoulders so I considered collarbone length a little longer the shoulder... But, reading through some threads here I found myself a little confused as others didnt seem to look at it that way
